    A couple notes:
    1) RAID comes in black cans
    2) MAG1 Brake cleaner comes in black cans
    3) I keep both on the same shelf
    4) Brake cleaner does not kill wasps but it sure pisses them off
    5) I run surprisingly fast for a middle aged dude
    6) I pay better attention to detail now

Unless you have a bee suit, those products have a warning against standing on a ladder when spraying. I rolled my eyes at that warning and figured if I went up at night I'd be fine. As I sprayed, the sudden onset of loud buzzing instilled such panic in me that I literally forgot I was on a ladder and instinctively jumped backward. Fell 6 feet directly on my tailbone.

I had a softball size nest in an apple tree that I was unaware of until I noticed black and white things buzzing around my head when mowing the grass near the tree. Luckily I didn’t get stung once I figured out what they were. I got the foaming hornet spray and hosed them at night then waited a week to take the nest down. It got them all.

Two summers ago I struck a hidden yellow jacket nest inside one of the shrubs in front of my house. They chased me from the front, across the back and were still stinging me under the water in the pool. They had latched onto my sweatshirt and sweatpants and still were stinging. I had over 40 "bites" and was taken to the hospital (against my will). I was so mad that when nightfall came i went out with two cans of raid and a flashlight. Moved the flashlight about six feet away from me pointing to the nest and i took aim with both cans of raid and emptied them. There wasn't a single one alive the next day.

A valiant attack indeed! Congrats! I ran over an unknown nest with my lawnmower and got stung around my ankle about by about 10 of them. Fortunately I was about 10 feet away from my privacy fence and small gate mowing a neighbors yard and i ran through and shut the gate and smashed the ones around my ankle with my hands and the rest of them didn't get to me.
I came back with a can of raid at night and sprayed a very strong and long stream down the hole then stomped on the dirt until the hole was shut. At first the dome collapsed and I saw many of them trying to take off so I quickly sprayed again and kept stomping until it was a muddy solid mass of dirt with no hole left. I never saw another one alive after that.

I waited for night to fall to ensure a full nest. I did mine at night as well; however, I used two different products: an expanding foam spray and a spray with a straw nozzle. I hit the opening up close with the foam and it pretty much prevented them from coming out. Once I was confident that they weren't escaping through the foam, I used the other spray and poked the straw into the side of the nest and sprayed - did this about a dozen times all over the nest until it was relatively soaked in spray. Went out the next morning and it was dead. Definitely recommend spraying at night.

    • @Fenimore.Cassidy
      @Fenimore.Cassidy 22 дня назад

@@aaron-dd5zr It wasn't an insulation spray. It was a wasp spray designed for spraying right into the opening of the nest. It then acts like expanding insulation foam and stops them from leaving the nest. It is more like a shaving cream foam that swells up a bit. If they try to crawl through it, it kills them as well. I think the one I used was called: Ortho Wasp B Gon MAX Wasp Killer Foam

I almost died twice when in teens have been stung a couple 3 or 4 times since and no reaction ? Then in my neighbirs case . His wife said she had 0 idea he was allergic and had to have been stung b4 as a farmer at 75. But 1 whiteface stung the guy and he was dead on the kitchen floor within 30-40 minutes . Here's one I heard about that might be worth trying. It follows a similar approach used to get rid of problem ants:
Get a reasonably sized open container. Mix about 2tsp of borax powder to 1 cup of applesauce and make more to that ratio depending on the size of the container. Put that in the container and thin it out with water to a more runny consistency. Use a paint stirrer or some kind of stick that the wasps can land on so they can slurp it up. They'll feed on that stuff while seeking out all the sugar, and the borax will poison them in about two weeks.
It'd be interesting to see if it works. If it does, the activity at the problem nest should drop out or cease in a manner that is noticeable. It's supposedly drama-free vs. other approaches, but it would still be neat to see documented if it clears a nest as well as some have claimed.

    • @MrTheHillfolk

I did a 5part sugar 1 part borax and mix some water into a slurry for ants in the house.
I left a few drops on the windowsill and it was like a highway to and from the nest.

From one RUclipsr to another, your gorilla glue video was awesome! That’s definitely your niche! The more unique ways to exterminate them the better! I couldn’t comment on that video because you turned the comments off. I know why you did; because too many people will probably think that’s inhumane. Negative comments feed your algorithm too. I would look at it as poetic Justice; people leave you hateful comments, and RUclips promotes your video even more. Lol. So the more negative comments, the better. Just my two cents.

I came across a BFH nest this size 20 years ago in a crabapple off our patio. It was there all summer long, coexisting with us using the patio for a kid's pool, BBQs etc.Very lucky I guess, and I didn't even realize there was such a thing as a BFH. Ignorance is bliss, and without benefit of a suit, I took care of it myself. I waited til it was dusk, watching for 1/2 hour as they flew to the nest at a surprising speed. Once Grand Central Station slowed down, I used a whole can of foaming spray in the mouth of nest so they'd have to crawl through the foam as they "escaped." I got by without a sting, but maybe a hundred poured out of the nest like falling rocks. The saturated nest was on the ground in the morning, with no sign of life or hornets trying to return. I lucked out I guess, and I probably wouldn't try it again.

I encountered one of these nests last week while trimming a tall shrub. It was about eight feet up. I had no idea it was there. I felt a couple of stings on my back but thought at first it was pine needles that fell under my shirt. Then I noticed some white faced hornets around me. I was on a ladder and the nest was right in front of me. I could see the hornets scrambling out of the nest. I got stung seven times in the back before getting away. I was very lucky. I emptied a can of Raid wasp killer into the hole and then destroyed the nest with high pressure water from a garden hose. I waited a week before finishing the tree trimming. Those things are nasty. I'll check thoroughly for signs of a nest from now on. My back felt like it was on fire for a couple of days. Huge welts.

A method I would like to try for above ground nests is pour a whole bunch of Dawn dish soap down a garden hose, put the spray nozzle back on, turn the faucet on full blast and let them have it. Have you tried this technique? If not can you try it and make a video? I was also thinking an automotive car wash foamer would do the trick as well.

When I used to paint houses on a crew, I was always amazed at what a few good bursts of latex house paint would do...
    1) They can't flick it off their wings, flapping their wings just makes it dry immediately, and renders them too heavy to fly.
    2) It immediately blinds them, it covers their eyes and they can't get it off.
Obviously, can't use it in all situations because of over spray concers. And not everyone has a sprayer...but hmmmm....I bet a can of fast dry primer would also work wonders.

I had a Hornets nest about the size of a basket ball, my neighbor said she was being attached by them when eating out side. After looking around we saw this nest high on the roof next to the chimney. My adult son climbed up a ladder in order to spray the nest with the Raid 20 ft sprayer which was supposed to kill hornets on contact. He soaked the nest thoroughly waited a minute then knocked the nest down breaking it to pieces, there were lots of dead hornets. We had no more problems. I have used the spray on the fence nests at Sun down which is after they return to the nest, I just stand at a distance spray and soak the nests.

The foaming spray expands better. Fill all the nooks and crannies of the nest.

I took out a nest last week. Snuck up at night, no suit, stood about 12 feet away and emptied a can of Spectracide on it. The only thing that happened was I got a nasty sting on my neck. Got a metallic taste in my mouth, then nearly passed out . Next day the nest was still there.
Round two: again at night, wore my bee suit, emptied a can of Raid, plus a can and a half of Spectracide, and finally the liquid soaked through the nest and I was able to knock it down.
But even when spraying, direct hits did nothing to the wasps themselves! Even after the nest was knocked down, I never found a body!
Although the nest was identical to yours, my wasps had a yellow tint to there bodies. And they were mean.

Ive noticed the spray doesnt work on larvae. So after spraying, the kids use gel blasters and go full auto on the hive until its gone. Gel blasters are great for paper wasps that are unreachable.

Simple answer is yes it does work but it all depends on the size and therefore numbers of wasps inside. I’ve done at least
a dozen small nests with not one sting to show. I was surprised that these wasps didn’t die immediately the raid I use is
an instant drop to the ground for the wasps and comes out more of a vapour. It’s essential to ensure no wasps are flying
back to the nest as these will sting you. I did mine after dark and never tackled any nest about a soft ball size.
This one’s a football size and far to risky without
    protective gear.

I'm not sure if Raid makes the foaming type of Hornet killer, but if you can get some of the foaming kind it will expand into the nest and cover the entrance/exit and none will come out, and you can just leave it, after spraying it. Come back later, or not. It will kill all that are in the nest and any that try to enter it. Even a nest that size won't require a whole can. Much safer.

I used Spectracide RPO liquid spray, not foam, for an in-ground Yellowjacket nest, administered after dark. Wasn’t optimistic it would penetrate well enough, but surprisingly, wiped out the entire population.

We had a nest like hat hanging from our tree but is was to high and the spray wouldn’t reach it.
I used a garden hose with a high pressure nozzle and a 6’ ladder.
As long as I kept the water going I wasn’t attacked. I sprayed the hose until the nest fell from the tree and then I destroyed the nest with water and the next day the bees were gone.

I found a big nest on the eaves under our roof (3 story house). Used a painting extension pole and a remote spraying hookup thingy I found on Amazon. Did it after dusk but before dark, so everybody was home but couldn't find me in the dim light. Worst part was dealing with the spray that filtered down toward my face.

    • @cabot100
      @cabot100 Год назад

Yep, I use pne of those spray hookup thingies with a long cord and a "trigger" on a long extension pole. Works great for under the eaves of a tall structure or in my orchard high up in a tree.
The overspray that ends up on your head is not fun if you ad not planned for it and have some sort of head and eye protection.

Try brake kleen. I swear, it will knock them out of the air on contact. It’s non flammable and it drys them up in a nanosecond. Sucks the moisture out of them. I’ve used it for years. You can buy it at any automotive parts store in America. Either works just as good too.

you could drop the wasp nest into a plastic bag and then place in the freezer for hour it kills everything in a matter of mins they are all dead. you can take it out a few hours later and take apart the wasp nest piece by piece. it is super fun and easy.

*Never before have I seen hornets large as small cockroaches and certainly not here in Florida. Haven't had to use it for awhile so nice to know Raid Wasp & Hornet still does the job. The barbarian in me waits for dark, then seals the opening and coats the nest with whatever spray adhesive is on hand. 3M 77 works well in that application. Just let it hang for a few days. Slow death and no escape is Schadenfreudlich. Smiling Eyes on Boughton road closed, then Dr Varney opened as Bolingbrook Eye Care same location. Visited them in 2018 to straighten and refit a Zeiss frame. They were nice folks. Cheers!*

Raid can also kill everything around the nest, so what you want to do is, at night, climb up to the nest and hit the hole with the foam that expands to fill in cracks. Keep pumping it in the hive and I guarantee that the nest and all the bees will be dead in the morning. And the foam doesn't cause collateral damage to other insects nearby.
