The cop seemed jealous, frankly, like he wanted to escalate the parking violation from the start. Why call for backup rather than issue the parking ticket? Why the sudden concern for his hands after 10 minutes? And his hands were visible several times while turning off his car alarm.

  • @ritadavis6372
    @ritadavis6372 6 лет назад +35

The first cop that approached him is blatantly lying. When he told Sterling Brown to step back, he took a small step back, and wasn't being threatening. When the cop called for back-up and all those cop cars came pulling into Walgreen's (OH GOD SOMEONE IS ILLEGALLY PARKED!) the cop that called in for back up walked up to one of the cars, embarrassed that so many cars showed up and said, "I only wanted one back-up........yeah, I told him to back up and he didn't, he got all up in my face." What a POS liar! That's what elevated this, that cop's lying. He needs to be fired. He's clearly an instigator. ALL of those cops at that scene escalated that situation. They WANTED something to happen. They could have told him, "You're parked illegally, here's a ticket, don't do this again, please leave the premises. Goodbye." and gotten back into their cars. and waited for him to leave the property peacefully. What did they do instead? Circled around him and started their shit. Tasers need to be outlawed. That's bull**** that they tased him. Sterling Brown, I am sorry this happened to you.

The girl that was in the car with Brown got out and tried to deescalate the situation when she saw what it was turning into, and the main officer in question tells her "You don't need to interject yourself. Go ahead and step over here. You're gonna get involved in something you don't want to get involved in." The cop obviously knew something was about to go down.
Throughout the beginning portion of the video, Brown has his hands in his pockets the entire time and was never asked to remove his hands from his pockets. All of a sudden it became a problem? Man, these cops are scandalous as fuck.

Greg You're right for the most part. These cops didn't seem to mind her getting in and out of the car though. She did it multiple times. Not once did they order her to sit in the car or be arrested, like they do with most. Instead, he just told her to "step/stand over here". Tbh, if she were black, she probably would have been tased too.

Black man parks across two parking spots at 2 a.m. in an empty parking lot. - 10 cop cars and a taser. Go to jail.

Yes, as an old white suburban woman they would not treat me this way. There was no aggression on his part. Cop was lying to other cops to cover up. What is with muting the mic 19 min into video? What is being said? I want to see the tasing cops video and what was said in that group. Until they start throwing bad cops off the force they will never be respected. Time for Sterling to get out of Milwaulkee. But, sue them on the way out.

Lots of crime happens there. The police need to cover a lot of bases, including parking violations. Unfortunately, the NBA player tied up the police's resources for much longer than he had to. A simple acceptance of the ticket--you know, being accountable for his own wrongdoing--would have freed them up to handle more serious matters.
Also, at 2 AM in an area known for heavy prostitution, yeah there will be heavier police presence. Not all of the police were there right away, but it is common practice to always have backup.
Personal responsibility is dying in this country, and self-entitled sports people are making it 1000% worse.

Wtf is with all these people in the comments saying that oh if we saw the whole video you'd see Brown PROBABLY is being reluctant and aggressive. THE WHOLE 30 MINUTE VIDEO IS ON RUclips. Go watch it yourself and see that he was not combative at all and that the cop talks down to him the entire time.
He has his hands out of his pockets at multiple points of the video but returns them either to turn off the car alarm with his keys (the idiot cops keep setting it off) or simply because its 2am in the middle of winter so its fucking cold. The cops that tell him to take his hands out of his pockets are the ones who turned up later who literally had zero reason to be there in the first place. Even the cop who called for backup said audibly in the video that he only wanted one car to show up, instead its at least 3 or 4.
Please people I get that sometimes the person being arrested can be reluctant or aggressive in these situations but this is not one of those times, the whole video is available so go get the facts before spouting nonsense.

He wanted to get his kicks off by bullying someone that parked illegally instead of just writing a ticket and leaving. There are alot of people in the world like that cop and the problem is he didnt know his behavior was out of line because like most people nowadays they blame their actions on others.

He informed them he can't because he had something in his hand please keep in mind he just came out the store. Now the reasonable thing to do would be to let him put his things down, and then proceeded to arrest if necessary. Instead they act like a bunch of untrained thugs, and wrestle him to the ground and tased him. Now if he was in the wrong why did the police department apologize, and disciplined the cops involved?

The proper consequence for illegal parking is a parking citation or ticket. A stun gun isn't involved in penalizing parking violations. Those cops stunned a man who was cooperating because he was a 6'6 black man and they were scared.
4 cops for a parking violation is too many. You knew they were up to no good or were scared. Same when 4-5 cops broke Thabo Sefolosha's leg outside a NY Night club. Thabo was a 6-7 black man.
All these cops who react contrary to their training need to be released. You can't do your job being scared when it is your job to ensure the safety of the populace. I'm an army veteran and during our training it was easy to spot those scared people. They should never make it to the point where they directly interact with the enemy or the populace with weapons in their hands.
Every commentor deflecting from the real issue by mentioning the parking violation are just operating under Standard Trump Operating Procedures ( deflect deflect deflect and maybe we will forget another atrocity committed against black and brown people). Everyone who says just follow commands are just oblivious. When does issuing a parking citation involve get your hands out of your pockets? Normally you don't need to leave your car to receive a ticket. Even if he was leaving the store, the police only needed to notify him of his wrong doing and issue the citation. Take your hands out of your pockets (Translation- he made a quick threatening move and we felt our lives were in danger). That may not be your reality but that is definitely the reality for black and brown people. Complying isn't the same for all of us.

I don't believe a full scale revolution is necessary. Small steps need to be taken before a larger change can take place. The first step in change is always education and for police education would come in the form of training. Policeman isn't a job in which if someone applies and completes the training that a job should be given. A specific temperament and mentality is required to be a policemen or civil servant. People without the proper personality to fortitude to work with people and negotiate difficult situations should be disqualified in the hiring or training process.
The second small step that needs to be instituted is accountability. As a soldier, if you shot an innocent bystander in warzone, you could be jailed. Police get put on paid leave and come back. Soldiers must adhere to Rules of Engagement and Escalation of Force protocols. We as soldiers even put our Escalation of Force basic guidelines on the back of our vehicles in Arabic so Iraqi citizens didn't violate them accidentally. In America, normal citizens don't even have an idea what Escalation of Force or Rules of Engagement protocols are for the police protecting them.

Nicolet, what you are saying is true for the most part, but doesn't have a simple solution. The unemployment rate can be described as 4-5% but in reality if you haven't worked for a prolonged amount of time or haven't attempted to find a job you aren't counted as unemployed which is just semantics. I hesitate to say any part of our nation's bureaucracy belongs to an specific ethnicity. There is a system in place where the powerful and wealthy keep people in place in government to enhance their interests.
I recently received my degree in business management and was extremely disappointed in my degree choice. Business is a good career field, but the operation of business is corrupt in my opinion. While in class you learn about loopholes and work arounds for specific issues. The problem is if something can be described as a hole; then that hole should be fixed. Loopholes are kept to benefit those who know about them, but the imbalances made by the constant use of loopholes shows up years later and the common people suffer the consequences.
This is far from the initial issue of obsessive force, but a system is in place currently where people in power don't have an issue with what is going on in America today. Our voices seem loud because their are many people voicing regrets, but in the end I'm a random voice in an ESPN RUclips comment section. My voice won't reach someone who can affect change and those people who can affect change don't deal with our problems and have less empathy than we think.

    • @semi6544

95-97% of Americans fall into two camps. One is that they know absolutely nothing, and two, they know enough, but choose not to do anything that matters. So, which one are you?
It is hard to change the world with one voice. Like minded individual on a large scale are needed to affect change. There are too many conflicting opinions on the answers for our ills. Conflicting opinions in government equals to stand still and deadlock. If I personally saw an avenue in which I could personally affect change I would participate, but I would have to agree with the methodology to lend a hand.

      on the rocks with salt,
If you watch the entire 30 minute video, you see that at multiple times Brown took his hands in and out of his pockets. Hello it's January in Milwaukee! Why do you immediately blame the victim?? Why are you not questioning the actions of the police? Why did the first officer call for a second squad car over a parking violation? Why did 5 officers surround him over a parking violation? Why was he tazed while on the ground in handcuffs?? Oh but no, none of that matters to you! He didn't immediately pull his hands out of his pockets while standing out in below freezing temperatures for several minutes, while surrounded by 5 cops for parking in handicap spots at 2am in the morning. What in the world is wrong with you?? Are you human?

Here's the thing... this would not be a thing if one simple thing happen. According to reports, he was parked taking up two handicapped parking spaces AT 2:30 am! In the video you can see the parking lot is almost empty. BUT he was guilty of a parking violation. Not that he didn't know, but the cop should have said your are parked in a handicapped parking space and I am going to ticket you because that is a violation unless you have a handicapped placard or license plate? No? Then I need your licensing, registration and proof of insurance please. Write the ticket and send his on his way. How many of us have EVER BEEN ARRESTED FOR A TICKET OFFENCE ???????????? He was arrested because he did not show proper deference to the cop that initially started this. They were taking, but the cop called for back up..... for a ticket? And in some of the video as many as 6 police cars some with 2 police answered the call. But then the cop who should have been writing the ticket and sending him on his way just walked away from him and went from car to car explaining that " I just needed one care bla, bla, bla. When he got back there were 3 or 4 other police standing around the man. And in the video, I saw nothing that the man did other than stand there and have an intelligent conversation. I thought that this was going to be much to do about nothing. But then the initial cop kind of walked back up to the man, the started backing away. I see one of the cops to the mans right get his attention and the SMALLEST cop there tries to grab the man's left arm and the other 2 join and take him to the ground. That was not an arrest, that was a mugging. If they were going to arrest him, then you would have heard them clearly telling him to put his hands behind his back! But what were they arresting him for?? Parking in a handicap parking space at 2:30 in the morning??? REALLY? At the worst he should have been given a ticket and sent on his way... But nope! What was he charged with? Resisting arrest?? Well they had no reason to arrest him to begin with. And at 2:30 am the cops in that town are so diligent that that enforce parking too? This conversation should not even be taking place. Ticket, go home.. Bye. The report say that he is going to file a law suite, and I hope he does. I do not understand police any more. They use to tell you what they were doing and why. It was not an argument. I clocked you at 67 in a 55. Licensing, registration and proof of insurance. If they found you somewhere that you should not have been, they would ask " What are you doing here?" And no matter what your answer was you knew and they knew that you did not need to be there and they would send you on your way if you had broken no laws. There are still a few "real police " out there, and you will know them by the way they carry themselves. They believe in the old adage " DON'T START NO SHIT, THERE WONT BE NO SHIT". They have a job to do, protecting us day and night, risking their lives even single time they put that uniform on. But the guys that we are seeing in these video, they aren't the real police. You will know them if you even encounter one.

    • @samuel2pac72
      @samuel2pac72 6 лет назад +4

James T Not to mention that a proper officer would’ve gave him the option to park his car correctly before giving him a ticket. That has happened to me before. Telling Brown to back up multiple times and then continuously stepping back into him is a clear cut case of police intimidation, not to mention calling for back up bringing out 6 officers to help “arrest” him without asking him to put his hands behind his back and just jank his arm from behind then taser him. Clearly deliberately done, they do not get trained to handle a situation like this, they abandoned that training.

But this video is frightening and we are seeing more and more of it every single day. Looking for drugs at a drugstore? How cleaver, can't issue a dui to a stopped vehicle.. well I have seen it done but it's messy. There was NO SPECIAL TREATMENT ISSUE AT WORK HERE! Just an arrogant cop and a black man who was not afraid or intimidated, because I can almost guarantee you that if he has acted like some black people I know, this would have went sideways and he would have ended up shot and killed. This entire event was bullshit that none of need. And it makes ever cops job harder.

It was never about the parking violation, that officer was looking for action. Bored and was looking ignite a confrontation with this young man,he assumed was without means. Someone posted if he was white this wouldn't be a story. Truth is , if he weren't rich and "famous " this wouldn't be a story. This happens everyday in my community, harassment, intimidation and unnecessary violence toward an other wise non aggressive individual. One step further rule , if you are calm being. They will be aggressive, this done to try and make a minor offense into a major one. Bigger time, bigger fines win win for department I guess. Resisting arrest, assault ect. Once an individual's natural instincts kick in , to try and protect or defend themselves. Well then it's on , results are usually fatal. Old news to us , new to the world due to the use of cameras.

What you fail to see is these situations ALWAYS happen when it's black people questioning authority like Sterling Brown when he clearly broke the law. Or Walter Scott, running from the police at a traffic stop. Why the fuck do black people just try not to break the fucking law and this shit wouldn't happen.

    • @darkhorse9785

Law enforcement is not racist. In most cases the people being shot do not comply...........the guy ran from a traffic stop.....shot and killed.....if he would have stayed there he would be alive today.....he ran because he had child support warrant. The kid whop was shot in Fla......if he had not run from the police and stayed on the scene he would be alive today......instead he choose to run in the dark from police.....he did not comply. The guy in NY illegally selling cigreattes .....had he complied with the officer and submitted to the arrest.........he would be alive today. Michael Brown would be alive today if he had followed the officer instruction. TOO many people choose not to comply and they do not choose wisely. COMPLY DON'T DIE.

If he feels it necessary to investigate beyond the giving of the ticket, especially the way the car was parked so strangely on two disabled parking spaces, when almost the rest of the whole of parking lot was empty, he was acting completely mildly and logically. Even black people should not support this Sterling Brown arrest case, because it makes their positions look blind and biased, almost exploitation of the history of other incidences.

      Mario Freddrick:
(Just adding my two cents.) When a cop ask someone to back up/ step aside it's because the officer feels threaten and has been trained on safety measures.
(PLEASE NOTICE) It's all based on the policemen's individual perspective of their own safety. So they can legally justify targeting BLACKS or anyone for that matter based on perception.
      QUESTION:
WHAT REASONABLE DANGER COULD ARMED POLICEMEN PERCEIVE, that warrants six other officers as back up for an unarmed (Black) person over a parking violation, that results in force (police brutality)?
I remind you this person is question has no criminal history or current warrants for arrest.
Final thought... If this incident happened to another professional athlete of a different race/ethnicity would this be a BIGGER deal?
      -open for dialogue.

The real issue sometimes isn't even skin, it's that many black guys "act tough" and the police are used to people bending over backwards for them. Many black guys grow up in rough neighborhoods and learn to hold their own and don't bend down to anyone and that bothers cops to no end.
If you get pulled over and don't say yes sir, yes master, sorry sir, I understand sir, please sir, I understand you're much smarter and wiser than me sir, I respect your authority, please don't murder me in cold blood, then they automatically assume you want trouble. Being a confident citizen is not allowed anymore. That's the kind of policing Nazi Germany had one day, you know? I think part of the problem is a bunch of uneducated cops. Usually countries that have a 4 year degree requirement for police officers, those countries tend to have much less cases of power hungry cops. It's a power tripping and education issue as well as many other reasons we all know about.

Black or whitw rich or poor it dont matter. The officer asked him to back up to remove him from potential threat. The officer was not going to move fro. The drivers door in order to protect himself as well. The officer the asked for id and was refused. In a situation like this there will be back up called.when asked to remove his hands from pockets and refused the proper action was to remove them for him. He clearly resisted the officers and got just what is expected while resisting.
For sakes of argument go put on a hoodie and pretend you have a knife or gun. Now get up close with a friend and time how long it would take you to stab or shoot your friend. Now place yourself in an officers shoes that has a family he wishes to go home to at night and maybe you will understand why this happened. I hope that the officers are on administrative leave with pay at worst. They did just what they was trained to do. Anything less is bad on the chief for not supporting the officers he trained

  • @kb2x172
    @kb2x172 6 лет назад +1

Honestly I didn't see him as a threat at all, now I don't know what the actual conversation was, but it looked more like the officers initiated the contact, the guy didn't even move he kept his hands in his pocket the whole time. no way should a tazer have been used in that situation.. Its shameful that people don't look fully into detail.

What most don't understand is that when you are detained, ie stopped for a parking violation, cops can give certain orders, such as "stand over here", "take you hands out of your pockets", or "identify yourself." They can also handcuff and sit a suspect in a patrol car during a detention.
If cops are asking other questions, invoke your 5th, but refusing to comply with lawful orders or to give your id during a lawful stop will only justify the escalating of force. That's what your lawyer can address in court. The tazing just seemed unnecessary with 5 cops there.

    Facts as I see it,
*BAD FOR BROWN -- Yes, Brown was a little intimidating when talking to the cop, He was too close, invading cops space, there is no need to talk that close and considering it is 2 AM in the morning and Brown is 6'6 I get it.
*BAD FOR THE COP -- Cop is probably too scary to deal with brown by himself and makes a big deal out of it, when other cops arrives he just loses time "blah blabbing" instead of dispatching Brown with a ticket or avoiding a misinterpretation of the situation by the group of cops.
People usually don't understand how easy cops get shoot too and how scared they are, sometimes we believe they are trying to scare us when actually they are just protecting themselves, I mean, why couldn't you show your hands, was so important that thing you were grabbing in your pocket? or maybe you felt untouchable and you were begin the police made the mistake to attack you so you could make a big deal?
