    Please give it a try! It is a lot of fun. People that know how to crochet, find it easier to learn knitting than the ones that don't use their hands to make things. You already have the coordination. It is very creative and knitting projects are not as thick as crocheted ones. Thank you again.

    Hello MyiDestiny.
    When you cast off the stitches to the Feather and Fan, you cast off at any knit row on the right side of your work. The wavy effect will be there, the same as at the beginning of the scarf. It does it by itself. No need to do anything special.
    I am glad you are enjoying it! Be well.

    I would like to use this to make a mermaid tail blanket. I'm not sure how to decrease it though, because the mermaid tail gets skinnier near the end. So I would have to decrease the number of stitches but I'm not sure how...

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  8 лет назад

      The trick would be to have the same amount of stitches you knit 2 together as the number of stitches you yarn over. That is: if you k2 tog 6 times, and then yarn over 6 times, you would k2tog 5 times and yarn over 5 times, at the edges. That way you lose 2 stitches on each side without disturbing the pattern.

  • @bufflyn71

    Hi Joanne. I'm still sort of a beginner and am looking for a pattern to make a baby blanket. Your pattern is lovely and simple. If I wanted a small border and size for a baby blanket, would you add a few knitted rows and a few knits to the ends? Also, how many multiples of 18 would I do for a baby blanket? I'm not experienced enough to modify patterns. Do you have the same pattern but for a baby blanket where I could use theee colors of yarn also? Thanks and enjoy your videos!

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  8 лет назад

      I made a small baby blanket for my grandson, with Caron's Simply Soft Yarn. It took 4 balls. I used #9 knitting needles and made 8 repeats. Plus 4 stitches on each side for the border.

    • @JoannesWeb

      The finish doesn't look like the beginning. The curves go the other way. But it still shows. You bind off on the 3rd. Row, since it's knit and easier.

    how many stitches do you cast on. to make a scarf. you need more than 18 to do all the rows.

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  6 лет назад

      It depends on the yarn you use. If it's a #4 yarn, with size 9 needles, I would cast on 36

  • @Jewels601

    This is the stitch that made me want to learn to knit. I can not get the holes right. It comes out too big or too small. I also lose a stitch sometimes where the holes are suppose to be. I am increasing wrong somehow. I knit continental style. I have the yarn in front of the needle when I increase. I just have to get this stitch pattern. I want a scarf and shawl with this stitch.

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  8 лет назад

      +Jewel Rae It is truly a very pretty stitch. It's a matter of repeating it several times in a small project, like a washcloth, so you can see what it is you are doing.

      It worked I can see the holes now. I love this stitch. I was doing 18 stitches and it was not coming out. I did 36 and like magic they started to show. What size needles are best to use for a scarf and shawl in this stitch?

    I've practised this pattern a number of times and always keep missing something! I'm almost there, though! One thing I just noticed while watching again. In your 2nd row (1st row of plain knit, around the 12th stitch it seems that you correct something with your hand and I am not sure why or how you did this. Is this something that affects the outcome of the row? Do you know what I am talking about? Help! And I ADORE YOUR VIDEOS. Thanks, Melody in Montreal.

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  6 лет назад

      So, let's see. The fancy row is :( k2tog), 3 times; (k1,yo) 6 times; and k 2 tog (3 times). This is the repetition. That means you need to start the second repetition with (k2tog), 3 times. So when you put the end of 1 repetition with the beginning of the next repetition, you end up having (k2tog ) 6 times.

    Unfortunately, this is NOT Feather and Fan - this is actually Old Shale. Feather and Fan is a 14 stitch repeat, while Old Shale is an 18 stitch repeat.

      Unfortunately, I attempted your method of starting with 14 stitches and it didn’t work. (I did not follow this tutorial) every other tutorial I’ve watched and followed for the feather and fan stitch all said 18 stitches which worked.
