I felt horrible for him as the Philly fans turned on him big time his last year and he was really struggling but the team sucked anyway and it's like they forgot all the years he carried the Phillies and he was always a class act.
Rookie broadcaster, who would have gotten an F in broadcasting school. That's why in all of the highlight videos, you hear Andy Musser's call, since McCarver ruined HK's call.
You guys are overreacting. Those are the kind of classic moments. LA has similar reactions every game. It’s part of the fun and enjoyment to know the announcers are as happy as we are.
@@brettnelson2019 There's still professionalism involved in being an announcer. Why do you think Chris Wheeler kept quiet and did his dance when the Phillies won the World Series in 2008? You have to let the play by play announcer do his job.
I’ve been a huge baseball (Mets) fan since the mid 80s so this was a bit before my time. I watched all of these games on RUclips. Best series of all time
Tell me the story of baseball without Pete rose. Can't be done. He will be in the hall one day. It's a shame, all you have to do is watch him play to see IF he bet against against his teams he did a terrible job throwing the games, hitting every other at bat or walking to first, shall I say running on a base on balls to 1st
I've always felt that Musser's calls on the radio in this series and in the clinching game against the Expos are so underrated. Do you have any idea where I can find it?
Let's go Stros! I was only 5 yrs old in 1980, but I remember my grandparents talk about this series.. Looks like we'll get another shot at beating the Phillies, this time for all the marbles.
Anyone that think this is a good game should watch the series. Best series i ever saw and i saw it on here. I cant believe how this isnt brought up more. The only reason is because it is coming outta the 70s. Thia and the 75 reds series are the 2 best ever.this even made it into the greatest games in mlb history even though it was a playoff game. Playoff games were not counted but thia one was so good undee the pressure, the playees involved, who they came back against, the asttos came back again, 4 extra innings outta 5 gamea. Too much too name and you only can grasp it by watching all 5. 1 was anticlimactic even though at the moment im sure they were xovering their eyes
Nolan Ryan became one of the first players to earn $1,000,000 per year after the 1979 season. California Angels GM Buzzie Bavasi didn't think a pitcher who had a career record of around .500 was worth that much
So clean this era of ball. No crap everywhere ads. Junky nets, stupid benches on dugout steps. Computers in dugout. What a mess tus new commish.has turned mlb into.
What a series. What a game. Credit to Schmidt during the interview. All class.
I felt horrible for him as the Philly fans turned on him big time his last year and he was really struggling but the team sucked anyway and it's like they forgot all the years he carried the Phillies and he was always a class act.
@@randquadrozzi1280 he retired mid season if i recall correctly. Bad form imo.
Just watching the announcers and the players coaches, wives, they were all so genuine and filled with gratitude. Real people.
Tim McCarver laughing and drowning out Harry Kalas's voice on the last out. Shaking my head.....
Hardly surprising....everyone plays to their "career stats.' His broadcasting career, jokefest.
So Annoying

2:14:10 mark is where the magic happens in the top of the 8th.
2:29:24 trillo’s triple doesn’t happen without del unser coming up clutch to bail out Schmidt

50 years of listening to baseball I've never heard someone just start laughing like that at the end of the game
And Pete Rose being Pete Rose. Every facet of the game. Applies constant pressure. Heads up plays. Amazing.
Such a great ballplayer

If pitchers were half the pace of carlton, thered be no pitch clock
How ironic new playing the Astros in the World Series this year!! I hope the Phillies win again!
One of the great games. And Harry Kalas had one of the great voices ever.
One of the greatest Phillies game ever! I listened to it on the AFN Europe radio station when I was stationed in Germany.
1:37:49 In the top 6th, Ryan still hadn't thrown a fastball below 96 mph all game
I was sixnteen when the NLCS between Astros vs Phillies
I miss harry and whitey voice's coming out of an old transistor radio.
30 Years ago MLB had this game on it's Greatest Games package. The final inning was condensed and had Chris Wheeler and Andy Musser on the radio PBP

@@Chatten93 It's all on a record album called "Phantastic Phillies," one of my cherished possessions.
Umpires (Game 5)
HP Ed Vargo (Crew Chief)
1B Jerry Crawford
2B Bob Engel
3B Terry Tata
LF Bruce Froemming
RF Doug Harvey
Ryan pitching a big game...you count it as a loss before it even starts. He choked so many big games.

Game 1 to the Phillies, on you home field.
What great childhood memories 🙏🏻

Del Unser. The man.
Del Unser. The opposite field hitting machine ! He WAS the pinch hittin king & w/o him, the Phils don’t get outta Hou or KC alive.

He later said it was the dumbest mistake he ever made
Would it be possible that you can start posting full phillies radio broadcasts on your channel .
Not a fan of either of these teams, but this one of MLB greatest games. On a side note wish Houston would wear these unis again.👍

Harry Kalas (PBP) & Rich Ashburn (C) 1-3/8-9
Andy Musser (PBP) & Ashburn (C) 4-6
Ashburn (PBP) & Tim McCarver (C) 7
Kalas (PBP) & McCarver (C) 10
Had Nolan turned that double play he would have probably gone the distance.
Nolan Ryan was not really known for his fielding abilities
@@ciesaro He fielded Robin Ventura pretty well.
3:19:00 "IT'S THERE!!!"
Harry was getting some action from Donna Schmidt. I think she was about it.
Love your videos but they should be in a 4:3 format. Doesn't look right in 16;9
Home plate umpire sucks.he blows two pitches in the Gary Maddox at bat. W t f! He should've not been in this game.
Actually you can see petes hand did touch corner of second base before Joe tagged his wrist.bad call again.umps sucked.
