My new wife is a low…low..blue level skier…I’ve been doing this for 50 seasons now all over the world and at a high level if I do say so…This resort scared her…and gave me everything I could ask for..granted it was march 2024..and they were closing in on 600 inches… Epic visuals and long chutes..(see Xmas chute)..do your squats. I did and it’s not a place I’d go without being fit…I will say after we left and continued our vacation in Utah…she mentioned Alyeska changed her idea of what she should and shouldn’t be scared of. It made her more comfortable everywhere else….Had the best Clam chowder with salmon chunks in town at Basecamp.
I don’t know what the secret is, but I’ve been skiing for 15 years and still don’t have it down at Alyeska. Half the time the runs are icy and all the narrow paths I can’t just straight line down, I need to take turns. Anything that’s not level, I can’t just zoom down 50 mph. What’s the secret? You just have to start a very young age and not know any better in order to master it?
I love 1 hour from alyeska it has the longest steepest consecutive double black diamond in NA I take it for granted tbh but north face the side that is all double black a WHOLE FACE of double black is amazing all powder and super fun
Literally just booked my flight, shuttle, and hostel after watching this video. Great deal on Ikon and surprisingly affordable transport and lodging. Early March seems to be the best bet for snow and daylight.

I went there from time to time growing up - I seldomly go nowadays, as the continued price hikes make it no longer worth it, and relatively out of my reach most of the time, even if I wanted to go. It's sad to see it catering more and more to rich tourists. I wish they had resident discounts like some businesses geared toward tourists have around the state.

I went to Alyeska in the summer once and I didn't realize how crazy it was in the winter. It was pretty awesome in the summer and there was still some snow, the hiking was really good but I looked at the ski trail map and didn't expect it to be anything super special. That's pretty cool

I started skiing in 2010 at Hillberg and Hilltop on JBER and Anchorage at age 42 and within 2 years, I had it down at most places. And after almost 15 years of skiing, I still have difficulty at Alyeska at times. When conditions around Ted’s Express chair are icy, it frustrates me to no end that I struggle, but so many people straight line down the runs at 50 mph like it’s nothing, especially Lower Van Imhof and Sourdough. BUT, on a day with nice new snow, grooming, and no ice, I can go down just about every blue run with little to no difficulty, but still can’t go more than 35-40 mph unless it’s relatively flat terrain. I guess unless I take advanced lessons, I’ll never master it
At 2:29 near the pole there's that tree and a bit of a jump, when I was about 11 I did a jump off that spot and got run into by someone snowboarding down the other side of the run, it was dark and I didn't even see the guy. I wasn't able to ski for the rest of the season.
Theres not a lot of apres ski options but Girdwood brewing, double musky and jack sprat are all fantastic. And the hotel bars are better than their equivalents in the lower 48.
They've had a written review on their website for a long time now. They've got a massive backlog of reviews waiting for videos, and they're still missing most of the interior of BC, and western Alberta. I wouldn't get your hopes up too much for a video within the next few months, but who knows?

Hi PeakRankings, can you review Ski Arlberg in Austria? It has the best snow in Europe and better snow than the vast majority of destination North American ski resorts, and has some of the best off-piste in the world.
that's incorect. the top 100 ski resorts in north america have higher snow totals than St. Anton am Arlberg. Even Stowe which is in the east coast has a higher snow total. If going by snow quality it also loses, european snow is comparable to east coast or tahoe. which all rocky destinations beat.

32 years old, I live in Alaska, about 30 minutes from this restort specifically. Never been. Never skiied, never snow boarded. Last time I tried to get in to it, I was overloaded with too much inmformation by tryhards who judged everybody that went down the mountain. That said, I stay home. And i play video games. Nope. Yeah dude I feel ya. I live in Palmer lol. I actually work at skeetawk, the ski hill in Hatcher pass. So I do ski a lot, but I hate people too. Wish I could just game all day sometimes too 😂
So I do have a couple of issues with Alyeska. The new ownership has absolutely no idea how to properly run a ski resort. Pomeroy Lodging is the name of the entity that owns Alyeska (as of 2018), and they've collected a portfolio of 18 hotels. None of them ski resorts until Alyeska. None of them American either - they're all between BC and Alberta. The cheapest drink stop option at the entire resort used to be the vending machines off of Ted's, but ownership decided to get rid of those to funnel more people into the bar. Prices skyrocketed at the food options, of course, and they literally do not have microwaves in the rooms at the Alyeska Resort. So you're forced to either go to the grocery store before you come or suffer the high prices and mediocre quality of the food they do provide. Oh, and if you can't eat all of what they serve, you literally don't have the option to microwave it. Tough luck! Ramen was like $50 at the hotel. It's wild. Employees did not seem enthused about the ownership, especially the ones I asked about the vending machines in the ski shop. That being said, the North Face was fucking rad and I'd still go there again on the MC or Ikon passes. I'll just bring my own food next time!
Seeing how a nice Michigan resort is over $100 for a lift ticket and now the lower Michigan hills are charging $70 for a day! That being said, these ticket prices look great! Also to be fair, most lower Michigan hills were only open a couple weeks last year so I'm just happy that they're still open!!
I'm not really a fan of Alyeska, if I am being honest. Severe chokepoint at the lift to get to the top and the conditions are always meh, unless you can catch a huge storm that is. Even then you're still either riding in the dark or in extremely flat light due to the severe lack of sunny days in the summer. Some nice views though. I'll give it that but not worth the 1h15m journey each way for me.
Awesome to see my hometown resort getting some recognition. While small, it packs a punch, and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Realistically There is just the one. The rest of the skiing options in Alaska have 2 lifts at most.
