Some friendly corrections: Negus Sahle Selassie (King of Shewa and Menelik's grandfather) didn't make a formal declaration of independence, he simply continued his ancestors' policy of isolation, self rule and autonomy, he was however the first to abandon the shewan title of Meridazmach in favor of Negus (King). Negus Haile Melekot (Menelik's father) was not killed in battle, he died of an illness before he could surrender, Emperor Tewedros II didn't kill him. Also after Emperor Tewedros' death, Wagshum Gobeze took the throne as Emperor Tekle Giyorgis II then he was defeated by Emperor Yohannes IV. Negus Menelik II did not actually go to battle with Emperor Yohannes IV, their two uncle's Ras Darge and Ras Araya negotiated for peace before that could happen, this Menelik submitted to Yohannes as King of Kings of Ethiopia, in return Yohannes recognized and crowned Menelik as king of Shewa. A good book to check out would be Emperor Menelik II by Harold G Marcus. Good work, hope to see more Ethiopian content from y'all!
I’m born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I’m Amhara. Ethiopia is not in Africa. In the last part of the last millennium Italian Roman General Africanus only defeated Tunisia but it was his privilege and his right to name what he conquered he named it Africa.
@@robertjoaseus-fo3nh He is going off of the original term for Africa, which was a Roman province in North Africa. It was named after the Roman General who conquered it. Obviously, he does not like the colonial name for his continent. So that is why he claims he is not in Africa.
