English Phrasal Verb Speak To | 4 Ways to Use It

The English phrasal verb 'speak to' is often used when giving feedback. And to say that you have a personal connection to something.
But first, is 'speak to' always a phrasal verb? Not quite.
If I say, "I'm going to speak to Laura tomorrow" I am simply using the verb speak + to as a way to show that I am speaking directly to an individual.
Speak to becomes an English phrasal verb when we use it more idiomatically.
For example, "This painting really speaks to me." It's idiomatic because paintings, of course, don't speak.
Another example? "The way you approached this issue speaks to your creativity and determination."

1. I am an avid reader. Whenever I read, even if I am not a great fan of the book I'm reading, I feel like there's always something that really speaks to me about it. Either characters or even individual sentences.
2. The fact that we can understand each other from our facial expressions speaks to the depth of our friendship.
3. In this meeting, I would like to speak to the lack of consequences awaiting students when they engage in violent activities and abusive behavior.
