I go through a process with your paintings. There is the initial look followed by an understanding of what the painting is then there is all the detail. The initial look is how it affects me in the first seconds. This one just jumped off the page. The colors are so vibrant. Rocky is such a sweet dog. His enthusiasm for life is every bit as strong as the bright colors. In understanding the story, it is interesting to learn that Rocky has climbed up into a tree - an ability that not many dogs have but I am sure all the dogs in the neighborhood envy him for this talent. Such a talent might almost be sensory overload for a dog. With so many things visible from high up a dog's brain might short-circuit. So many highlights of the day for Rocky, especially seeing his favorite person who has a pie. In Rocky's mind he might get some pie even though he has never been given pie but he then remembers the one time there was a pie sitting all by itself on the kitchen table and of course he had to try just a little bite but somehow in seconds the whole pie had been consumed. When I mentioned the third step of noticing the details this is also about watching it come together. I enjoy watching which colors you begin with then what they become. I just noticed his paws out front. I didn't see that on my first glances. I really like the strokes you used to create his fur and his eyes which have such kindness in them. I also enjoyed the tree colors and leaves celebrating it seems a very nice fall day. This is one of my favorites of yours.
