    Thanks for watching. That is awful. And it will only get worse if people are offering it and it's not even being asked for. I've never shown my passport only my drivers license, insurance and registration.

    Bridget,I am sorry to correct you on this topic. Corruption in the DR has been a way of life for many years. The system allows police officers to ask for money whether you are braking traffic laws or not. We call this practice "la mordida" and " macutiando" so, I don't blame any expat who contribute to la mordida or el macuteo.

    • @shelleyadams3176

      Yup. First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. A whole video on what is common practice "la mordida" and "macutiando". Really? Shaming people is not the way to do it.
      In addition, if the airport collects fees for people who overstay and the money contributes to the economy, why take it upon yourself to throw stones at people? You are right in that you are not in the U.S. or Canada so stop comparing systems. Would you drive with a beer in your hand in the U.S. or Canada? Yet, some locals in D.R. do. You cherry-pick topics to sell your youtube channel.

I would love to discuss this topic on air with you. And your AI profile photo. 😀 Since you called me out for shaming vs. stating my opinion. I'll add some shade to the reply.

    Sometimes it is just easier to pay them off and be on your way......If they take you down to the cuartel, it might end up costing you much more 😅 When in Rome do as the Romans do. In that situation, it is your word against his.....That officer could easily plant drugs in your car and truly ma km e you wish you had given him the 1000 pesos.

    I don't live in the DR, I've visited for over 15 years because my wife's family lives in La Vega.
    My wife as well as members of her family who are born and raised in el Cibao have said on many occasions that givng the officers un chin pesos is a way of life, expected, not viewed the same way as here in the States.
    Is it possible that you're looking at the situation through an "American" lens/perspective and not that of the perspective of a local?

    • @ebonyladiesinthedr8583
      @ebonyladiesinthedr8583  Месяц назад

      Thank you for watching. The person who offered the bribe is not a local. And through the eyes of any sane person - it was the wrong thing to do.

    We are new to the DR ( Golf Garden Owners) and just heard your episode on Punta Cana Corruption: Are Expats Becoming the Problem?Based on the information provided on your program, we agree with your conclusion that such actions ( as trivial as it may seem) can result in increased illegal actions and reactions. This is similar to a person littering and getting away with it. They keep throwing their trash away in th e streets and then one day the place looks like...garbage. Have some foresight

      Thank you for watching. So you would "offer a bribe" to get out of a ticket? She paid $2000 pesos. And the tickets are never more than $1000 pesos. Common sense isn't so common.

    I absolutely 100% agree that "offering" a bribe contributes to corruption. But simply paying a bribe "solicited" does not. It goes to what you said is the officers intent. If he had no intent to ask for a bribe and you offer it, you corrupt him. If he already asked for the bribe and you paid it was solicited meaning his he was already corrupted. I like you have a lead foot and have been stopped maybe a dozen times as was SOLICITED for a bribe every single time. I have paid it every single time except once because I didnt have my wallet and no cash. However as it is not my desire to pay, I knew 1000% I was guilty of speeding on the highway and what I paid I was going to pay no matter what, either to the office or the bank. SO do I want to live in that wonderful world in the DR like you, yes. But I dont have the patience or energy to make it come true and my time is more valuable. And yes I too know how corrupt the country is, although I dont complain on facebook. Overall a great video and keep up the good work

    idk seems a little hypocritical for a habitual law breaker here and the United States(speeding) to be pointing the finger at someone else breaking the law. do you think someone watching you speed influenced them to accelerate? maybe. her offering sounds like she's just being proactive trying to go on her way. the amount really dosent matter. also, you said yourself that you could just be like "I dont have cash" and refuse to do so. so is it a REAL problem. do you think said officer(if new) never heard of bribery or was he planning on being top flight officer of DR making changes for a whopping $500 US? maybe but making a whole video on it is a little much imo but it is your channel.

      @ebonyladiesinthedr8583  Месяц назад

      Thank you for watching. Habitual law breaker is a bit much. But I'll take it. And i'll take my speeding ticket. Instead of breaking the law further by offering a bribe. You're right...this is my channel and I discuss topics that matter to me. I live here full-time and would like to live in a place that I don't have to worry about senseless stops all because the police are corrupt.

      @@ebonyladiesinthedr8583 your welcome. see that's it again. "I broke the law, but not like that person. them bad". im Dominican citizen that's been coming here every summer since I was born(36) and currently spending half the year in process of being full time and sorry to say, that's not changing anytime soon. its cute to think that there will be a place without corruption. also even without bribes that's something that's done in the US. at least here you know its not cause your black.

    Sometimrs they threaten foreigners with jail time, or they take our passports, so tou cant keave the country unless you give him 2000 pesos . I realize this is not your narative, but most policia i encountered and many others encountered walk to the curb side of the vehicle to except the bribe. Because there pay is about 300 usd per month.
