I rather have people buying their dogs investigating about the breed , and if they can take care of him , Than people adopting and then realizing they can’t take care of the needs their random dog has and abandoning them, again... breaking their beautiful loyal hearts.

Melissa G do they shed a lot? Like A LOT? i wonder if grooming them maybe 2-3 times a week decreases the amount of hair they shed. I don’t mind hair, but wonder how much of hair we are talking about.
parabataisince1234 yes they shed so much! Especially if one doesn’t keep up with daily brushing, it’s good to brush at least once everyday :) it helps! Also one of my Golden’s she’s more than the other, my female has a thicker coat than my male kind of odd lol
Any tips for learning how to raise a puppy? Should I read a book before getting one? I’ve never owned a dog.

Goldens are big babbies even fully grown they have the mentallity of a puppy
To anyone watching this and considering getting one, please keep in mind that they shred a lot and that your home will get dirty, no matter how much you clean. In the end though, it's all worth it... if you're a dog person and want to sacrifice a lot of your time attending to your dogs needs. Golden Retrievers are the most fantastic dogs, and even though they share all their love, nothing is without a price.

Btw, nothing wrong with getting a pup from a responsible, ethical, reputable breeder who truly cares about their dogs! I personally don’t agree with the whole #adoptdontshop slogan. Adopting is great, but so is getting a pup from a responsible breeder! All dogs deserve homes, and it’s nobody else’s business but your own where you get your dog. I personally do have a rescue dog, but he has so many issues (due to neglect, abuse, and trauma from his first “family”) that I have been working through with him for three years and continue to struggle with. Not everyone has the time/resources to do that, so that’s where responsible breeders come in!
Maybe this comment was kind of unnecessary and long and boring but I felt like maybe I needed to say something so other people don’t get sucked into the whole #adoptdontshop thing like I did and feel like they have to adopt or they will be bashed and get tons of hate? Idk lol.

Yeah, I’m with you. I also don’t get why some people bought their own dogs and dumped them. Now people who want a dog “shouldn’t” buy and go adopt a dog who somebody else dumped. I think everyone’s deserves to buy a dog. if it doesn’t work out you bring your dog to the pound/rehome by yourself. If after a few years later you want a dog again, then you should go to the shelter and adopt one.

Hey!! So four days into having our golden retriever the same thing happened to us “coccidia” which is actually parasites and the breeder told us it was just a term for “stress”. We literally had our golden on an IV at the vet. Found out she hand 4 different types of parasite and was loaded out the kazoo (literally). She had giardia and three different types of worms. The breeder never got back to us and actually changed her phone number. Which is funny because when we first tried to get in contact with her to buy our pupppers she eventually got back to us and said she had to change her number because her old phone was having issues ““. Now we know what it really was. But our pup is healthy now and she’s the best thing in the world!!!
Yeah...definitely not a term for stress. That sounds like a very ignorant and awful breeder, I'm so sorry. I hope you are able to at least report her name to the local police and ASPCA. And make sure you advertise that on Facebook. She should not be producing puppies. I'm so glad your pup is healthy now! Sending love xxxx

I’m a little worried about them shedding, but other then that were there any downsides/concerns or advice you could share for someone whose never raised one of these golden babies before? Thank you so much! This is my first Golden Retriever too! To be honest, the shedding is a bit ridiculous. It's a lot. However he is SO worth it that it's something we willingly and lovingly put up with! For chewing, use Bitter Apple Spray. You can look into it on Amazon. I'm sure I'll get all sorts of backlash for this next comment, but our experience with crate training was very successful and only took 3 days. If you need to learn about Crate Training, you can also look that up :)

How is Harvey's shedding? I've always wanted a golden retriever. I had previously had a aussie shepard/border collie mix. And the shedding was pretty bad. I've been doing a ton of searching and researching on all breeds. Golden Retriever is by far my favorite dog breed
Harvey sheds...a LOT. Like a lot. I won't even lie. I will say though, that his shedding is nothing in comparison to how much we love him so it's a small price to pay. And there are lots of ways to deal with the shedding!
@@brunettely I kind of figured he would shed a lot. I wish rescues in las Vegas had golden retrievers unfortunately they have more pitbulls than anything.

no worries! he has a little paw condition where sometimes it hurts a bit to walk (he's outgrown this by now!) so we put special balm and boots on so that they will condition them and keep his paws safe :)

Hey I just got a golden retriever puppy and she is a biter! I sometimes get frustrated and that seems to make her bite more. Could you help me with some train tips? She’s around 14 weeks old
Hey Fisher! Just know that puppies LOVE to bite. Chew. Tear things apart. This is a very natural and expected part of a dog's growth, which can be frustrating! A few things that helped us:
We got Harvey a lot of toys. Like a LOT. We wanted him to find that perfect toy that he could chew all day and not get bored.
We used bitter apple spray on items we didn't want him to chew (on Amazon for like 10.00). We sprayed it on furniture, socks, even our hands.
Whenever your pup goes to bite your hand, redirect her by giving her a toy. Make sure to reward her with praise/treats when she chews on the toy!
Puppies are hard work (like really hard) so just remember to stay patient. They are just fluffy little babies! They're teething, so they love to bite...it feels good! Just be PATIENT and don't raise your voice or punish her when she bites. Use positive reinforcement instead :) Hope that helps!
Or just stick to a goldfish lol all ya need to do is remember to feed it

He chewed a lot as a puppy, just like they all do. We used a combination of bitter apple spray (a non-toxic spray that tastes and smells horrible to dogs, so they will learn not to chew!) and toy exchanging. When they go to bite your hand, give them a toy immediately. They'll start to associate chewing with toys instead of people!

She's probably playing-bite with you. In her mind, she's playing with you. There are so many training videos on this, check them out here!
i know i'm a little too late but for anyone else needing help with this, here's my advice: bitter apple spray works wonders. all natural and very effective. you can also try immediately diverting the pup's attention by giving him a toy when he begins to bite. then he'll learn to only bite toys.

where did you buy harvey? we just lost our sweet pit mix rescue to cancer and need another dog to love. Baylor was the best boy and we want to rescue others, but we would like to start with a friendly breed who would welcome another animal or person into his life. Baylor's temperament wouldn't allow for that.
What made you decide to “shop” (get Harvey? Instead of initially adopting like you did after and what made you decide to adopt instead of buying the other two dogs?
To be honest, my vote was to adopt from a shelter. I love acquiring previously owned animals who need another shot at life. However, this is my husband's first dog ever and he has had bad experiences with dogs in the past. To make him most comfortable, we went to a reputable breeder whose mom and dad's records were proven and their temperament was proven. My husband also wanted to raise the dog as a puppy so he could trust him more and he'd be more predictable. Now that he has a dog, our next dog will likely be a rescue :) Thank you for the question!
I have adopted two dogs and am about to buy a puppy for my kids. It's a personal choice and there shouldn't be pressure or shame associated with a person's particular choice.

Kenykenken probably about $2,000. That’s generally how much a solid ECGR costs. Sometimes they can be up to $4,000 but those are like champion stud dogs just for breeding. If they just bought a dog as a pet, I’d say it was for around $2,000. That’s what our ECGR was.
