Dude, I work full time. Make just enough to scrape by. $500 would dramatically change my circumstances. I’ve been wanting to start a small food business but the cost of living is making it really hard to save any money… this would, man I would cry if I was secured this money monthly it would help so much.
Five hundred ain't no money. It needs to be bare minimum one thousand dollars clear takehome .
And it needs to Go up every time companies raise their prices.
It's a start.
The most glaring flaw with these pilot programs are that they’re missing the UNIVERSAL part of universal basic income. Giving a few people free money does not capture the inflationary effects of the program and the conclusions cannot be extrapolated to a society-wide UBI program. Also, people participating in the program know they’re being monitored on how they use the money. This alters their behavior voiding the results of the study.
I hadn't realised the extra money would be monitored for what it was spent on. Obviously, under such circumstances people will 'behave' how the scheme wishes them to.
With UBI and without UBI is kinda analogous to growing up with a caring parent and growing up without a parent.
More like with UBI or without UBI is like staying in the nest or leaving the nest. You can't have one nest with too many fat adult birds expecting to get fed.
@@Amino2 Why not?
@@Amino2 It's not at all like that.
UBI, instead of being like previous safety nets that still had holes, is an income floor no one can fall below.
@@Amino2Your take is just very wrong. Let me try. It's like some of the baby birds are starving. UBI is guaranteed minimum food for all the baby birds no matter who their bird parents are.
It would cut down on crime as well as legalized psychoactive substances across the board 😮
Five hundred dollars ain't going to keep nobody afloat. It needs to be at least a thousand dollars a month if not two thousand.
A problem is thatgive people $500 then the landlord raises the rent $500
I am Joslyn Carmen Shakur.
Hiiii how was your name created?
It should NOT be for just certain people who “need” it..that’s stupid it is called Universal for a reason. I will stop paying taxes on purpose and I will leave the US if it’s just for those who are a certain income, it better be for every single American citizen no matter their wealth and you can choose to give it away if you don’t need it. Our leaders in the US need to understand this.
Exactly. Otherwise it is glorified wealth distribution.
Where we can see the documentary?
Should be $2000 at least. Probably $5000. Then a tax system all the way through the system so capitalism can exist but on a very simple AI scaffold. Everything can be paid for and everyone can be wealthy and rewarded for work. But everyone has money no questions asked. Think. Just think of the good most people would do.
Definition or floor price of poverty will change. $100k income will be the new poverty line
So there’s housing, medicaid, snap program, school free breakfast and lunch, food pantry giving out groceries … probably more that I may not know about. We came to the US with nothing and the church that sponsored us paid the first month rent and groceries, old clothes. Helped us fill out job applications and get the kids registered to schools. The second month we were on our own. It amazed me that these people is here all their lives and still struggle.
Alot of those programs you have to qualify for they do not give it to you. Just because you are successful does not mean anyone can you do not know what they face.
That’s wonderful for you, however there are plenty of people who were born here that haven’t come close to receiving the benefits that you have.
What if you live by yourself and are struggling? Do you have to have a kid to receive universal basic income?
This can work, but only for US citizens without a felony record. Also, if convicted of a felony, you are out of the program.
Fine, add in drug testing and basic financial education classes and I'll listen. A majority of the people who would receive free money are woefully unable to use it wisely.
@@Kaisermb1 Yes, regular drug testing. A failure will remove someone from the program.
Poverty drives people to crime and drug use. These are the people that need this type of support the most.
Social credit system coming into play now
*No. Only if they're evil. There are a bunch of people that aren't evil that have committed felonies. Why? Poverty. Poverty is the root of all evil!!!*
I hope everyone is talking about unconditional basic income which would be at least at poverty level plus 10,000 to get everybody out of poverty level at the very least and also add up to 30% of the GDP divided among everybody maybe even up to 50% because that would make sense so we can have more competition and then it would close down inflation it would definitely bring it down. Since everyone would be getting the grants in our country and that would be a start I mean we can do it all around the world. And that would cut down on crime and immigration.
If everybody got it you would have more competition and cut down inflation because of more businesses starting with this money.
It needs to be at least enough money to last you the month. Like at least one thousand dollars or more.
just pay normal wages to people that work
How can we make any businesses do that? Especially now that AI will soon begin out-competing a significant chunk of white-collar workers?
The truth is many people don't enjoy many of the jobs that are toxic dealing with rude people and dangerous work that can hurt your body if not careful many hours which causes stress which isn't good for one's mental health.
This is a poison chalice. I hope people know what they are doing. The more free money you give away the less grateful they are and eventually it will come to a point where you change their mentality towards honesty and integrity. The moment you take away the money they will no longer be able to survive.
So if we have AI taking jobs and people are without work do you think they will be grateful to receive some money?
I'd much rather perfer Universal Basic Services instead
Social Security Star Wars A New Hope money programs/money programmers/money programmings
Five hundred dollars ain't worth nobody's time
Sounds like a Trojan horse. Beware! Freedom is worth much more than $500… it’s priceless!
Nobody loses any freedom, by being "unconditionally" given $500 a month.
it is a good idea .
money is not the solution to poverty . money is the cause of poverty .
😣 "promo sm"
I’m pretty sure welfare already exists throughout the country. Soundd like a fancy name for the same thing.
Ideally a UBI would replace nearly all welfare programs. SNAP (food stamps), subsidized housing, TARP, CHIP, any federal unemployment extensions wouldn't happen. I also think it would be best tied into a way to buy into Medicaid, for those who cannot afford health care. This is something George Bush Sr. actually advocated, and has had some bi-partisan support over the years.
Welfare is more costly, often isn't enough, goes away if they slightly improve their situation leaving them worse off, and doesn't end up helping a lot of people who actually need it but fell through the cracks.
UBI is "Unconditional Basic Income". Given to absolutely everyone, unconditionally, no requirements or means-testing so it's cheap to administer, and doesn't go away. People can earn as much on top of the ubi as they want. It could be partially funded by a tax on AI as it displaces jobs that used to be done by humans.
The solution to poverty (in most cases)? Graduate high school, get a job, do not have children before being married and financially stable. Giving people money who do not know how to save money will not lift them out of poverty.
I disagree no one has to work like a dog anymore and be slaves to corporations ... we all have robotics that do most of the work now anyway... and so the way youre thinking means = baby boomer right? old fashioned way of thinking
@catvisiontv855 there's numerous jobs out there
There's no need to be a parasite
@@catvisiontv855I know you are very smart but UBI is a little over 3500 years old
It's not that simple. People living in lower income neighborhoods are often forced to work 40+ hour low-paying jobs. Maybe multiple jobs, just to get by, so going to college/trade school is damn near impossible. Also children in poverty often struggle in school because their home lives are so stressful (what with their parents struggling to make ends meet, and their communities being victims of crime and police brutality), and they don't get enough resources (adequate food, healthcare etc) to keep up. As a result, they fail/drop out of high school, and are forced to work one or more awful paying jobs, just like their parents. Poverty is cyclical and incredibly hard to escape. Also, people in poverty (mostly women) have far less access to birth control.
Graduating high school, not having children before you're married, and being financially stable are only guaranteed to those privileged enough to already be financially well off. UBI could give those in poverty a chance to escape the cycle.
@@snaididksnd and significant raise taxes
So no
Those parents should have planned better
This program would make more since for students. WTH would you give free money to junkies and criminals? Y’all wildin and he’s high.
Even Finland abandoned the universal basic income experiment.
@@_DESIRER The fact that Finland did not expand the program tells you it was not a good idea.
@@_DESIRER Belittling a poster must make feel great, eh? Talk about pathetic. You must have washed out of a PhD program.
Yeah because they want slaves to corporations and rich people right?
Finland abandoned the experiment because it was just that...an experiment they used to collect the data necessary to figure out how to roll out this monster worldwide! The deletist who hate us want to get you addicted to this concept in order to control everything about you! This will eventually come back to Finland and every other country by their goal date of 2030.
These ideas are why he didn't get reelected, huh.😊
It’s a trap a total trap to our personal privacy
Mark of the beast
MOTB is “right hand or forehead.” There’s no more danger to your personal privacy receiving $500 than there already is to getting a regular paycheck.
No. It is absolutely not anything of the sort. Why is there always someone who says that, about every new thing that's come around? Acting like you haven't said it 100 times before.
Y'all are the "boy who cried wolf". All you've done is ensure no one will ever trust you when you say stuff like that.
Taking money from people who know how to invest it and make it grow and giving that money to people who are poor and don't know how to manage money is a terrible idea.
What evidence you have the poor don’t manage their money? Sounds like you are a corporate shill.
@Matt101984
If you are poor and vape, or drink, or gamble, then you have money management issues. If you are poor and have children despite being poor, you have planning issues both financially and beyond.
@Matt101984
I like to go thrifting. I pick up small items for as little as 50 cents and sell them on Ebay. I recently purchased a TI graphing calculator for 99 cents at a thrift store. I sold it 2 days later on Ebay for $42.00. While I'm shopping, I see people buying clothing for their kids, they usually have several in tow. They think they are saving money shopping at thrift stores, and they might be, but they are missing the bigger picture. If they did what I do, they could make a considerable amount of money with very little seed money, extremely low risk and a high rate of return, and all with very little effort. Why don't they? Their mindset is getting in their way. They have poor money management skills. But they can learn.
@@psychicspy ok you did not prove that is what people would do with basic income
@@Saberwolves84
It's human nature. People will not change their behavior just because you give them $1000.00 a month. The internet is filled with free education, yet people don't take advantage of it for the most part. Pick a poor person at random and look at their RUclips play history. It won't be educational material.
