If you want one that is even cooler (Well, not outfitted with electronics, still old school), the Soudan underground mine in Tower Minnesota still operates theirs for tours. It goes down at a slant and also has two levels to the car. The depth of the mine is 2,341 feet.

Actually, you are inside the cage, attached to the hoist via a wire rope or set of ropes. At 600 fpm, it's relatively slow but it travels only 650 feet (relatively shallow). When you've ridden on a double deck cage with 50 people per deck, you've been someplace big.

Kone has a test freight elevator in a limestone mine which is 330m or 1,090 feet. It was designed to test a new Kevlar/carbon composite rope system called UltraRope. The first commercial installation using UltraRope will be in Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and will be 660m or 2,165 feet.

I'm really sad you didn't mention you were in Hutch because I live there and I could have showed you some other cool elevators around town! One elevator I know you would have been excited to see was the elevator at HMS 8 it is an original Dover Hydraulic and it is 4 floors! Also the court house in Hutch has an original manual operated elevator that has never been changed since the building was made and part of it had a gate that could be lock if inmates needed to be transported! My grandmas apartment building has new Thyssenkrupp elevator that were installed about a year ago! At the Hutch Clinic has a Schindler elevator! If you ever are interested let me know and I can show you around! Keep up the videos they are awesome!
