this is my favourite scene from the entire Torchwood series. The third series was so dark and intense and when this was going on Jack and the team were close to failing and then this moment happened in the middle of all that confusion and fear this normal conversation between siblings happened and it was just the simplicity and reserved nature of the topic that just made it so powerful and amazing....i love it so much...then when Ianto dies all i could think of was him saying "it's weird it's; just different; it's not men; it's just him; it's only him" gosh i could cry now
I love how everyone thinks people have specific gender attraction. It might be a thing, but so far I'd say you don't fall in love with a gender, you fall in love with a being. Everyone is asking me which side I am on. But I've never loved anyone yet, so how should I know? I find some people attractive, and it's usually not the majority standarts. There was this one star everybody was all about. Considerated a sex symbol. I just wanted to punch him in the face. XD
Louvie some people have preferences and some don’t. Personally I don’t, I just think everyone’s hot but some people can only be attracted to someone they have an emotional connection with.
Perhaps by the 51st century same-sex couples could easily have biological children together, and various extinction level events caused society to frequently be made up of small, occasional single-sex groups, which would give an evolutionary advantage to people predisposed towards bisexuality, and society figured out a way to make its members more and more sexually attractive in order to increase the chances of procreation and continuing the species. Thus anyone from the 51st century travelling back to the 21st would be able to attract any partner, regardless of that partner's prevailing orientation.
Beautiful edit for a beautiful scene. "It's not men, it's just him. It's only him." It's a line like this that puts RTD on a whole new level of depicting relationships. It breaks my heart that throughout it all, Ianto never truly knew where he and Jack stood.
Puzzsta Go listen the radio drama The House of the Dead! In my head its totally canon, because that's the only time they confess their love to each other. (warnings, it's still a very very sad story)
I love how he admits the truth by admitting how handsome Jack is...how he closes his eyes just before he does so, and how calmly he tells his sister to "stop it" afterwards. Ianto is so sweet and beautiful. One of my all-time favorite scenes:)
"I kind of feel bad for Ianto in this scene, he just looks so uncomfortable" : this shows how Gareth David Lloyd's performance in its Ianto's character is a total success. But really, both actors here are very "true".
Consolation ??? I think Ianto has no ned of any consolation ! He is plenty happy, and lets himself stay in this hapiness without feeling any bad or having to be cheered up. He is sure about his feelings, he has just some difficulties to express. As we know, he is not a "talker".
I think this scene can really serve as a contrast against one of season 4's problems in that to sate its mainstream American audience, it became so much more rigid in its exploration of sexualities. In the earlier seasons you had characters exploring their relationships with different genders in different contexts and this was very fluid. I feel like season 4 took away so much of jacks sexual ambiguity and made him just "gay" so that he would be less threatening. Just thoughts
I still didn't watch the last season (and I finished seasons 1-3 probably 10 or so years ago xd) but my friend watched it and said basically the same thing. And I'm sad, because after coe I was expecting something at leas as good. But well. One can dream.
+Elizabeth Taylor god, I'm absolutely dreading finishing it. I know what happens, but I've got about 5 episodes left. BUT, I can tell you that in the audio books Jack tells Ianto that he loves him.
This entire scene! seriously! SUCH an outstanding performance. The way it was written, the way the actors performed it, everything about it was genius. one of my favorite moments in all of torchwood.
I have never seen this show before but a couple hours ago I randomly stumbled upon a clip of 'Jack and Ianto' and now I have been watching pretty much all of the little cute scenes and their kisses that I can find here on youtube, and I watched that panel interview at comicon and it was HILARIOUS. Oh, and I said that to say, although I have never seen this before, when she said "He was gorgeous" and it cut to Jack I felt like he was saying, "Well, if I do say so myself". And then when she said "Like an escort" and continued sipping her tea, I was dying
Can I just make a shout out for Katy Wix who plays Rhiannon? What bloody brilliant acting! There is so much nuance going on here. I can't tell even after having seen this scene numerous times whether she is genuinely upset that she feels she's been squeezed out of her brother's life, or if she is just being a sneaky sister and pushing his buttons to wheedle this juicy bit of gossip out of him. Just fantastic. And Gareth David-Lloyd is of course wonderful, but he was throughout the series.
I totally agree with you, John. We focus on David-Looyd (fantastic) but the way he answers his sister's questions is leaded by the way she speaks and asks. On hr face and in her voice there are plenty of nuances
It’s not men it’s just..him, its only him- literally any male character who thinks they’re straight then fall in love with their blue eyed black haired best friend

So... that means that in the TV show, the real episode does not include this ??????? It's just a talk between brother and sister, without the "thinkings" in Ianto's head (given by the black and white images) ??? Well, I supposed I should have guessed that because of the BBC logo staying on the black and white photos, a professional would not have let this. But I suppose I wanted to believe that this was the real scene... So we have to keep it preciously, thinking of the day this video won't be shared anymore ! I supposed some babies in Wales and elsewhere were named Ianto in this period... (and still are, probably)
I just will add my voice to the numerous ones who thank you and I agree with everythinig positive which has been said, including the music (which stays in a background and does not cover the voices, as it often occures in the videos edits) and the fabulous fact that you cut the scene before the entering of the brother. You made a fabulously sensitive work, since the black and white images you introduced are (in my opinion, even if I saw negative comments about them) in total adequation with Ianto's silences and hesitations before speaking : as a matter of fact, we may suppose that Ianto's brain is full of Jack's images. So your photos refer to this. It could have been a real effect the producers could have used. I'm discovering Torchwood (it was time, after 10 years of Dr Who fan practicing, and arriving at my70s) and I was so happy with the idea of this long and fabulous scene (just a bit surprised by the BBC logos staying on the photos, but that was a detail). And now... I'm understanding that this is not the real episode of the TV show !!!! One treats LGBTQ+ relationships as a beautiful thing with so many different variations to compensate for the difference between every person on the planet, and the other refers to LGBTQ+ relationships as nothing more than "a phase".

I love it and never understand why Doctor Who focuses so much on Scotish particularities, and makes so few cases of Wales particularities. We could think the serie is a Scottish one. Apart from Ddrwg ci (here in Brittany we say "Ki droug", almost the same tongue), there is no link with Wales, and I regret it. So I appreciate the Welsh context in Torchwood.
Thank you! I have never been able to find this scene anywhere whenever I wanted to use it as an example in a discussion. This version with black & white "memories" inserted is of course my fanwork :-)
Wow! This version of the scene is NOT on Netflix! Its exciting to see it, but I can understand why they may have cut it. The flashes of Jack really draw out the main point of the scene which is for Ianto to come out to his sister. I wish they kept some of the dialogue they cut and at least a few clips of Jack. Thank you for posting this video!
I really can't believe I forgot Daisy from Not Going Out played Ianto's sister Rhiannon! (Katy Wix) But then again I wish I could just forget about CoE and have Ianto back but that ain't ever happening T___T
where did you find this scene with Ianto and his sister?....I watched the first 3 seasons of Torchwood on Netflix and the episode on Netflix seems to have a shortened version with several of the lines in this video left out and I would love to see this extended version with all the extra lines. Was this a deleted extended version or did they change it for Netflix? It wouldn't be the first time Netflix has changed a show.

we needed more Rhiannon
Definitely 100% Jack :)) Sad that they are over... :(
Omg!!! The jack and Ianto feels!!!! I love this!!!!
You're welcome, and thanks for nice comment :)
I miss you ianto
I can confirm he IS very handsome
I mean he is gorgeous
MakiaLink it's probably cause this version of the scene as far as I'm aware is fan made that's why you can't find it anywhere x
Ps torchwood is now on bbci player as of today
This is beautiful
I really can't believe I forgot Daisy from Not Going Out played Ianto's sister Rhiannon! (Katy Wix) But then again I wish I could just forget about CoE and have Ianto back but that ain't ever happening T___T
I really love this :D But I was wondering, what is the music?
where did you find this scene with Ianto and his sister?....I watched the first 3 seasons of Torchwood on Netflix and the episode on Netflix seems to have a shortened version with several of the lines in this video left out and I would love to see this extended version with all the extra lines. Was this a deleted extended version or did they change it for Netflix? It wouldn't be the first time Netflix has changed a show.
Oml my heart
*sobs*
I wish we'd seen more of his sister
Tell me again why did Ianto had to die? I still want him back. 😩
TiranimaQ Big Finish have done a ton of stories with him set before his death. He even recently had a story where he and Jack went undercover as a married couple in a Suburban neighbourhood
I thought it was "Have you gone bender?"
Bender being the British term for gay, I think.
Isn't it bent? And its derogatory.
I love this video!
