voice2voiceless No, people indeed did not whine as much. Pathetic man-children and woman-children weren't able to connect with other pathetic people as they do now. People felt shame for being pathetic and didn't voice it. People did not live with their parents into their 30's and whine about "social justice" out of boredom. @Txboy85A Your right. I was a toddler/young child during that time. It is hard to believe I am 32 now. Where did the time go? I still remember 1989 and all of the 90s. Time is so short.
Wow back then everything was wholesome and family oriented. Now anything goes. Advertisers are using sex, violence and anything corrupt to force feed their products down our throats . I feel sorry for this generation because everything is screwed up , television, music, movies u name it its screwed. Saddest part is they think its okay smh!
Well, the reality is that the late 80s were hardly the 1950s. It was hardly wholesome, but they generally didn't put that stuff into commercials, well, maybe they used sex but not so much in your face. Watch movies, TV, music videos from that era, it wasn't wholesome, its just that it keeps going farther and farther off the deep end with each passing decade.
I used to think those Magic Mushrooms actually shot out those little flower effects when you opened them. LOL. I was just a kid! I was disappointed when we finally got one and it just smelled good. Well, at least it smelled good!! I'm with some of the other posters, looking back at 80s CMs, it was really a "feel good" decade. Not as cynical or sarcastic as nowadays(which was a trend brought about by the mid-90s, I believe). And it's not to say there weren't bad things happening at that time, there were, but it didn't rob us of our tenderness.
Didn't spark fear with me - it drew more anger if anything. Those of us that lived in that world hated this. As a kid the last thing you wanted to see on TV was this commercial to remind you of BS you had to go through until you got old enough to get the hell out.
I'd certainly consider saving any new memorabilia, such as Game of Thrones merchandise and keep it in their boxes, in twenty-five years, you'll be pleased you did.
That's no fun, I keep all my stuff on display on my shelf. Besides you might be dead long before then and likely be sold off for next to nothing just to get rid of it.
My dad had a 1985 Nissan Sentra, stripped down, 4 speed, no options, paid $5999 for it brand new. He finally got rid of it in 2014, that car lasted him 29 years with almost no major repairs, almost 300k on that little 4 cylinder. They just don't make cars like that anymore!
Ha! On one hand I'm thinking 'wow we were marketed some real crap in the 80's and it's amazing we aren't all dead 30 years later..." It was the last decade that I think people had a blind eye to such things... On the other hand I remember every one of these commercials, they don't even seem old to me the way they probably do to someone in their early 20's. It's so F-ing weird to know that the 80's are now 30 something years ago the way the 60's were when we were growing up in the 80's... That happened fast....

Mike Thaxton I don't remember everything being better. I remember most cars being a lot worse than they are today. You'd be lucky to get 5 years out of any GM or Ford before the thing imploded. I think legislation and demand has definitely brought about a lot more "real" healthier alternatives in food but not anything that says "diet" or "lite" on it. Consumers used to trust leading brands and distrust small upstarts, that started to change in the 80's, especially in foods. I think 80's commercialism was crass, blatant and held no shame. Most of the products were mediocre at best. That's not to say much has changed and that's also not to say that everything from the good old days is lost. As for "fuck" -- well I said "fuck" a lot in the 90's because I was young and didn't know the proper place and time for it. It's just a word. There are many modern words I detest more such as "underwhelm" or "vetted" or "#________" or "playdate" or "crunk" etc, etc... These words are not only offensive, they have weak impact. The 80's were just fine but, for better or worse, I'm happy to be in this decade.
Rechargeables were still somewhat crappy and took too long to charge. Nothing came with them (batteries not included) and alkaline cells were in turn a *HUGE* market.
10:17....the "ghettoblaster"....LMFAO...i can remember packing these monstrosities with about 10 lbs or 20$ worth of batteries and being able to listen to music for about an hour before the batteries went dead...aaaahh,the 80's..damn i miss you
I had a boom box so big in 1987 that it took 10 d batteries and if I didn't use alkaline batteries I could only turn up the radio about half-way up before it would sound distorted. ( Which was still plenty loud!)
They need to bring commercial hooks and jingles back. They definitely need to get rid of the ask your doctor about our new Rx medication commercials. they didn't have any of those back in the 80s. They only had oer the counter meds like tylenol or bayer.
Agreed. Drug companies only hold a patent for X number of years before generics can be made, and they've figured out that if they advertise the hell out of them, it'll more than make up for their losses later when either cheap generics emerge or the "Did you take this pill?" class-action lawsuit commercials begin.
I saw the Ocean Spray Commercial and turned around my bottle of Ocean Spray Cran-Pomegranate that I'm drinking. The logo on my bottle has a darker blue, but otherwise it's the exact same logo to this very day.
Where is the iconic drinking and driving add where they lay a washed beer glass and keep lining them up to show your vision impairment.. Must have played that sucker 15 times a day for sure

Your full of bull blacks and latinos are not represented here at all...they were harassed and discriminated against....so how was it better back then
Me too at least issues like sexism, racism, homophobia although not fully addressed are being discussed
They sure wanted to sell a lot of batteries in the 80s
Rechargeables were still somewhat crappy and took too long to charge. Nothing came with them (batteries not included) and alkaline cells were in turn a *HUGE* market.
Vinnie Rattolle Love how you broke down the commercials by time and made it clickable. Excellent vid, man. So vintage.
Haven't seen any cola or burger ads
I first heard the song in the Clorox commercial in March 2002. For the 15 years prior I saw Clorox adverts with themes performed by grownups.
@@dougpeters4293 I used to love to watch the colored lights dance to the music!😁
Wow what a blast from the past
20 minutes of commercials, about the standard length of an ad break today on US TV haha!
I'm old 😅
I still remember most of these as if it was just 2 years and 9 months ago
I always go outside to my field every morning to eat Grape Nuts cereal in front of rabbits (after picking fresh berries right from the bush).
The logo on my bottle has a darker blue, but otherwise it's the exact same logo to this very day.
am i the only 15 yr old watching this video..,.
I wish they still had those magic mushroom air fresheners.
My God, phones with cords!
Wow John Denver. My mom, me and my brother would always sing his songs in the car! Such great times! Rip
drugs brought us here at 2am
+Kayla Ferrari - Well, I'm envious of your Christmas.
just another danger of drug use.......

Bryan A.Cal Grape nuts...lol! It was awful :)
Where is the iconic drinking and driving add where they lay a washed beer glass and keep lining them up to show your vision impairment.. Must have played that sucker 15 times a day for sure
If John Denver eats post raisin bran why don't we all??? Lmao
Never thought when I was a kid that this shit would be entertaining. LOL Oh and I want some Choco Bliss damn it! I miss that chocolate pastry.
1:45 - 2:14 Where the hell was this commercial when I was growing up in the 1990's? My parents could have benefited from it :/
Awe its the skipper!! Haha
back when white people werent being targeted
I miss my mom and grandma so much when watching these commercials from the 80's and the ones from the 90's

1:48 Ahh such fond memories of childhood.
