I can't get enough of this song....Such a funky tune, amazing lyrics, talent, and awesome interpretation. A mixture of tunes in between 50's country and folk hard to define....And all members of the band dresseded up reflecting the interpretation....I am dealing with a long distance relationship and it all brings it together.
I can't believe that this is a new artist. To me, this sounds like something that a folk artist from the late 60's might have done. The lyrics, the melody, the instruments all give it a sort of timeless quality. It reminds me so much of the pre Disco 70's music that I vaguely remember hearing.

I hung out with April on the front row while Langhorne Slim played, after she opened up for him at the Nuerolux in Boise Id. We brought friends with us to see Langhorne, and they fell in love with April! She was soo good and so nice! (Langhorne was good too!)

@sdmestayer Well, it got to one guy...me. Never heard of this group. I found myself whistling this tune for a week and had no idea where I heard the song before. Then one day while getting ready for work the Lowe's paint commercial came on. I had to use the DVR re-wind to read the small print at the end of the commercial to find out it was some group called April Smith and the Great Picture Show. Then on to iTunes. Now I'm hooked. I think it's gotten to my wife too.
ohhhhhh.... so sweet. April and crew- in some sandy hell hole, under the blazing sun, where your face and colors are hated... there's a dude. He does his work, he hears the desolate wind, he patrols with his buddies, and his senses strain for signs of his death from a sniper. IUD, and worse events he just might have to live to recount. He takes his colors off, hangs w/ the boys, pushes iron plates to an Anrhax soundtrack and laughs like life is normal, and smiles with the boys.... ...but. He walks to his rack. He sits down on it and picks up a dog eared letter from his hearts breath, written thousands of miles away, and thinks of her smile. He puts this jam on that she sent him. And smiles at just how adorable she is. April, you so sweet to put this out there for him. I dig it to, thank you.

Not to sound too dramatic but I fell in love with that voice at the first listen of that album. Such character in that voice.
