From Groc Media " I'm looking at your setup and you're broad casting your SSID. This is the issue. I found that if you stop broadcasting the SSID you will stop dropping your connection."
    IT WORKS!
I was having a terrible time with connectivity. My band was telling me we couldn't use the mixer because of it. I just selected out the SSID broadcast and it connects reliably every time. OUTSTANDING. You also have to connect to a Hidden Network, and REMEMBER what your DL device network SSID is.

SO, I've had some fun with this. During a rehearsal, we kept losing connectivity to the mixer (it's a DL32R which I got dirt cheap since the venue didn't have people that new how to use it, and the owner just wanted it out of her office). Let me begin by saying I'm learning this mixer as we intend to use it for both rehearsals and shows with IEMs. Each guy kept losing connectivity, so in my "unfortunate rage" I destroyed the wireless router. It was cheap, so I figured it was the issue. I remembered having an Apple AirPort, which it turns out Mackie recommends.
I am also a network engineer and VERY familiar with routing and switching. I put my engineering hat on and realized that I wanted to implement security on my network for the mixer to keep other devices from attaching. So I created DHCP reservations and limited the DHCP scope to the number of devices that would attach as well as assigning one IP to each MAC address that would connect. Then I thought about it. Why use DHCP. I have since put a static IP on the mixer, as well as static IP on each device (tablet, phone, laptop) that will connect and "VOILA" I NEVER lose connection anymore. In fact, It really doesn't matter in which order I turn on devices since the IP address is hard wired into the mixer, it's no longer waiting for an IP to be assigned, and thusly is connected to the network by default. I highly recommend using static IPs and making your wireless router a simple access point.

If you want to use an external router to strengthen the connection(which seems to be the most reliable). A round about way, provided you can connect to your dl16s is take note of its IP address. Add it manually. Before connecting your external router/wifi extender click on the manually added dl16s and change its wifi settings to external router. Then with your computer or tablet connected to the router. Plug the ethernet cable from the router to the front panel on the dl16s and it should show up as a detected Mackie mixer. From there the router/wifi extender should be able to support multiple devices and not crap out mid show. (Note: router/wifi extender doesn't need to actually be connected to any local wifi network.) Hope this helps

@@TheFilwud your concerns are valid and your worry just shows me that you are a competent audio engineer.
The choice is yours at the end of the day, I cannot tell you what decision to make, however the majority of mixers in this price bracket will have terrible internal router's. It's part of why the price is so good.
If you are already comfortable with the platform, then stick with Mackie might be the way to go. (I don't get paid anything by Mackie to say this btw). You can mitigate the connection issues by buying an strong external router or connecting a laptop with Master Fader, via ethernet for consistent connection.

@@audiosolutions201 Many thanks for the response, it looks like we are sticking with the Mackie, looking at your and other's comments, rather than try the internal router I think I will stick with the external router we are using now. From your video, I am convinced it is not the wifi but the Master Fader software that is causing the problems. By the way, I find that shutting everything down then powering up in the following order works best: router, mixer then iPad. We use a dedicated wifi network and I often have to manually set the IP address as that seems to be a bit better than dynamic addressing.

Some helpful insight from another user:
    I have a similar problem:
Zero problems connecting the initial outside wifi connection but when I switch between applications on the tablet, e.g. between word and MF5, I lose the internal connection and have to reconnect internally.
It seems when I'm using the Word app for a period of time and switch back to MF5, the MF application reboots and looses the inside connection. At that point all I need to do is go to settings in MF5 and reconnect on the Current Device page because it doesn't lose the external outside connection.
What's also interesting is when everything is connected with no problem and I then 'intentionally' disconnect and then reconnect the outside connection,
when I switch back to MF it 'does not' reboot the app and without needing to go to the Current Device page, MF reconnects on it's own.
I believe that it's a software issue between MF5 and the tablet and not a wifi issue at all.
Sometime today I'll time how long it takes using a different app like Word before it causes a MF5 reboot, which causes the internal connection loss, when you switch back to MF5.
I hope this helps narrow down where the problem exists in the software. :)

I have the same exact problem that you described. I use the tablet for reading music and when I switch back and forth I lose connection to the wifi only to MF5. the tablet stays connected to the mixer. I just reboot MF5 and connect to the mixer with zero problem until I switch back and forth again with the Word app.
Interestingly enough without using another app at all, the tablet stays connected to MF5 for around 15 mins and then disconnects but the time it takes to disconnect is not consistent.
I also think is a software issue with MF5 and the tablet's software processor.

Thank you for addressing this issue! Hopefully this will have some influence at Mackie... we have been using the dl32 for years now, NO ISSUES. When they introduces the android compatibility i downloaded it to my phone and it worked... a few months have gone by and we are now experiencing connectivity issues... They present differently than this post describes but the disconnect is the same... "Every time" I try to "save" a snapshot it disconnects... did I say EVERY TIME! So, there is a (in-)consistency in the code in regards to saving (layman's opinion...) While I don't consider this a trivial issue (!!) I'm trying to work around it. First thing I will do is delete the android from my phone... fingers crossed, might resolve my issue. If it does, I'll hit you back. Thanks for the insights....

From what I have heard, these issues are linked to MF5 and previous versions of MF don't seem to suffer this issue. This further leads me to believe that the issue is with the App, as it is the only common denominator.
I will admit, I have yet to come across someone having the same issue as you, where there is a specific trigger event. If you have the 32R, I would consider reverting to a previous version of MF and see how you go.

I was with my DL32 this morning an thought I would add more detail to what was previously shared... recently I noticed a brief delay from the time I open MF5 until the snapshots populate... that is new to MF5! Previously it was almost instant (we are talking about less than 5 snapshots!) When any changes are made to the current snapshot we save it so we dont lose it... "Disconnect notice" immediately follows and connectivity is lost... The new info I'm sharing is: firstly, deleting MF5 from my Android did nothing to improve connectivity. Secondly, it does save the changes... just reconnect. My dl16s connects to my iPad Automatically 80% of the time. I set my iPad to connect automatically with Mackie but occasionally the signal bars showing yellow or red. In that case I shut off the mixer and close MF5, then turn it right back on again. 95% of the time everything works perfectly. I only use the internal router. A few times I have had to repeat those steps to get things to connect. Only once did it actually disconnect while I was using it but a brief shut down solved it. it blows my mind that this hasn’t been fixed yet. We shouldn’t have to tell Mackie anything, they should simply use their own product, they will have issues also, then hopefully solve the problem.

      That's great to hear.
Most of the time, I have been made aware that turning the mixer on and off is what works in the end.
Unfortunately for some, they acquired the mixer for events and you can't really switch off the mixer part way through a conference or a concert, which is where their frustration comes from.
You are absolutely spot on about not having to reach out to Mackie about this issue. They have never responded to me personally, however I have watch a few live seminars online and their instruction is to buy an expensive router and not rely on the internal one. 🤷🏾‍♂️
It's highly unlikely they will fix the issue. I personally feel it might be to do with cheap hardware.

If you do some modifications with Master Fader on some device that is not connected to same network with

You have to connect that new device on same Network and save new Shows modifications and then synchronize with Show on master DL SOFTWARE and there save new modified version of file... When you connect an external router, you have to configure the mixer to change the connection to the external router. Otherwise, you will connect to the router but this will not extend to the mixer

I'm not sure the unit is the issue. I'm looking at your setup and you're broad casting your SSID. This is the issue. I found that if you stop broadcasting the SSID you will stop dropping your connection. Just manually enter the information of your router into your ipad, android, computer, etc. other devices will stop knocking you off your network. Once you reach your limit of connections it takes time to drop them all. I think if you practice that you will find you'll stop dropping connections and the need to restart the mixer and router.

People ….. update the fader 5 app. Reset you Mackie mixer (pin in little button) and connect to Mackie Wi-Fi with device. Turn on app update your firmware on Mackie mixer!!!!!!!!! Hours of videos and grey hair . That’s the fix . Also airplane mode and turnoff auto connect on wifi device you using so it don’t jump to another wifi connection

I am having a similar problem with connecting my IPad. It does not see the mixer. I am trying to run my monitor mix from stage using the Ipad. I switched to using my Android S20 and it sees the mixer right away. But with the IPad it's a no go. Very frustrating.

Stop broadcasting your SSID from your router. If you are using the internal router, you can see this in the settings on the left.
Once you do this, you should stop seeing drop outs

      Hi Thomas
Ensure that there are no mobile network, bluetooth signals or other wireless networks in close vicinity at the time that you connect your tablet or computer to the DL32's internal connection.
The above will not affect the external connection

    • @bobdemers2398
      @bobdemers2398 4 года назад

The condensed version is the the tablet doesn't disconnect with the mixer. It disconnects with the MF5 app only, more often when switching back and forth to other apps.

I encountered also on my dl16s, i tried to restart the mixer but i cannot see the mixer on the devices. I am using the built in wifi as wifi client connected on the main wifi. I tried it many times before resetting the mixer. I checked the devices connected to the main wifi but there is no Mackie Dl16s in which that is the issue why the masterfader cannot see the device. There might ne an issue with the mixer connecting to the network. Currently I tried wiring the dl16s to the router I haven't had an issue yet.

If you try to transfer Saved shows from some devece that is not connected to same network and is offline on some other wifi you will not succeed to transfer saved Shows on new devices, you will transfer but it will not open anything. You have to go directly connect every new device with master device but of course you have to be on same Network. Every new device have to be on same Network and connected with that working master device and then just like on that device you just save Shows on your new device. You do this with every new device, first connect to master device and than Save Shows from there to location on your new device.....

the solution is essentially turning off other wifi or data connections in the same vicinity of the mackie/master fader device. which is ridiculous if you are trying to mix a live show with hundreds of people having cell phones.

🤪🤣🤣he does have a point lol. OK so you're saying go to airplane mode to disable all other connections and connect that way? All my phones etc connect no problem but the screens are small for mixing while I'm performing. I got a tablet so that I can see the mixer but it won't connect. It'll connect to normal WiFi but it's not picking up the router to link me to the mackie device. I'll give the airplane mode a go. I always thought that airplane mode prevented you from connecting.. I'll let you know.
