Wow I'm super surprised you guys don't rate the eighties for the rock and metal guitar sounds. You should listen to Jake E Lee, Vivian Campbell with Dio, and Jason Becker. They all had distinct sounds that were theirs. The thing I dislike about the current crop of guitar players is that they all sound the exact same.... hey everyone has different tastes and it's okay that you are both wrong! 😁😉😉
Attempting to replicate a tone/ sound from a decade that had so many excellent songs and sounds means you're up against it from the start. I've listened to music and aspired to much greatness. If you don't like the tones,fine,but it doesn't make the whole genre/ time period flawed
@@brucehayes7251 agreed. Tone is all about individual taste too. I much prefer those 80s tones than all the compressed drop D tuned tones that most modern metal players seem obsessed with. I like alot of that stuff too but I prefer those 80s tones.

Guys… Having been there myself. It was 100 watt JCM800’s with Boss Sd1’s or Tube Screamers with delay and chorus at times. However there were no Klon style pedals then. Just saying… This is fun watching you guys! Fun video. BTW very few actually had the racks back then. Every guitar had either a JB or a Demarzio Super distortion in it. We had very few options back then for just about everything
Honestly if there was no "strike first" on the guitar with the cobra I would have bought it right away. At Thomann, can you offer a customization service if I buy a guitar from you but I want to redesign it? Not necessarily on this guitar in particular but any guitar
You should do this again, but add one rule: "The device can be new, if it emulates the 80's machine" No delays, if it doesn't have f.e. 2290-settings. No preamps, unless it is f.e. ADA-emulation.

Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Yngwie, EVH, Jake E Lee, John Sykes... just a shot list of nice guitar tones from the 80s. But I understand you guys, some hair metals bands are too plastic
I love the 80's hard rock / metal but to be honest this was painful to watch. I can see you don't really like this style. Your playing seems forced and your tone is bad because you have a caricatural vision of this style. It's not just how much delay you put in the sound, it's the attitude. I love your usual light overdrive, polished sound, but here I think you're missing the point.
Chorus is my least liked effect, other than the Fuzz. I'm more a 70's person, but I do like the occasional hair metal covers gigs. Checkout 'Hair Trigger' in the Uk.
From experience, getting a great tone in that decade was really friggin hard ! Everything was so expensive and hard to get . No internet . Now some great tones came from great whites once bitten album .
Interesting concept for a video not sure you did get the overproduced vibe of 80's guitars sounds but yeah fun video defo gave me a good giggle. If this was also about the actual guitars and which would i pick, I'd go for the jackson soloist over the kramer. just saying in case you're interested.

So I gave it a try and watched this great video. And to my absolute relief I can confirm that I still hate the tone. It was such a relief I must say. Thank you!

I watched this for one reason only, entertainment! I cannot tolerate the 80's hairbands nor the queasy, gut wrenching abuse of chorus + phasers + flangers and everything in-between. I know you're playing EVH because my early childhood was spent changing stations when I heard his guitar playing! 🤢 Bryan Adams and the Talking Heads were the highlights of the 80's, not EVH...
