I really want her to be the second Black Best Actress Oscar winner, even though the industry would rather joke about Black women than appreciate their talents and their harder work to deliver phenomenal performances. I am grateful that amid every adversity Viola has endured, she always comes out on top.
There were many praiseworthy, touchy moments in her children amidst the ghastly details. I hope her principal was alive to see her success as an actress, or even to see her make it into Julliard. 🖤🖤🖤
A great discussion👏🏽 The part about sexual abuse not being discussed or addressed....that it was just a horrible part of life that many young women and men experienced/endured was gut wrenching.
Viola Davis became one of my favorites when she played opposite Diane Lane in Nights in Rodanthe. I loved her character, the best friend, amazingly beautiful, kind and generous.
I am living under a rock because I did not know about Davis’s book or interview. After seeing this video, I am interested in reading her story. She has overcome such trauma and hardship that many of is cannot understand or relate to. I am glad she is able to live her dream and was able to patch things up with her father. Not many get the chance to do so.
I read her book I couldn’t put it down. I almost read the whole book in one sitting. It’s also on audio. I’d love for her to get a Grammy for the audio version. She’s been my favorite actor for years, way before she became as famous as she is now. The first time I saw her on screen, I knew she would be a force in the industry.
I'm currently reading Viola's "Finding Me" which is a powerfully touching and heartbreaking story of her traumatic childhood. Her MaMamma was a source of strength, and Cicely Tyson was her inspiration to find her voice as a brilliant actor in her own right. I'm about to read Chapter 7 "The Sisterhood" so more surprises are to come. I highly recommend her book.
Viola was born a year after civil rights...so her father went through his own traumas as a black man..my mother talked about this to me a few months ago...my mom was born 3 yrs before Viola...many of her friends talked about their fathers coming home and getting set off by something...my grand dad wasn't like that way..but he talked to my mom about it and said "we go out to work jobs where we are abused and mistreated by white men that don't want us there in the first place..we took beatings just for showing up to jobs being told we didn't deserve them and we took a white man's job..etc.... and we don't know how to deal with it..we come home to more problems and we take out that pain on our families...its a viscous cycle" Not excusing the behavior..but I can certainly understand it...I believe she did as well
@@Novakane78 No excuse being the main point. Black women and children face hardships of racism as well. Black men do not get a pass to inflict terror on women and children because of what happens to them. I applaud Viola for speaking out. No more secrets.
You know it's so funny I really enjoy watching just about watching any interview that Oprah does she has a way of getting people to open up I guess that's a gift that she was gifted with anyway I really like Ms. Viola Davis very talented lady and it's nice to know that some the people that we see in the movies are just as human as I am . Good interview Ms. Winfrey keep on doing what yr so very good at 👍
Hi, Oprah thanks for share this beautiful interview in Netflix, I saw it with Spanish subtitles. Beyond our interracial and cultural differences, human beings have many things in common that identify us and make us have empathy. I loved the interview of the two, icons of this modern era, two great professionals and exceptional women. I would love to buy the book, and I am sure that, like me, millions of Hispanic women would love to be able to read it in Spanish. Could you convey this concern to Viola? thanks in advance
I appreciate Oprah but she has to make it a habit of not cutting others off when speaking. I love Viola. she deserves this love and respect! Also I am not surprised by her forgiving her father. Too often we want to harbor hate and sorry in our hearts but it makes our soul uneasy. I think we need to allow this moment to be a commendable one. To tell a victim of an abusive home that you are “surprised” is to negate that path it took to ease her soul of what the pain drained from her. Just be happy for her for choosing the right path. which is leading only with love and grace.
A very Great Actress and she's so authentic telling her Truth no matter how difficult the her truth is. I never understood why the Oscar are so reluctant to have a Black Actress when that Best Actress category since Halle Berry or do I really have to ask??? Such as the movie Fence's she was the only lead female character but won for best supporting actress? Oscar are full of CRAP it's no wonder why the ratings are going down ever Year they're so behind the Times. 💯💯💯
If you don't like play characters on movie about certain type of person's that are "lower" category, then dont play it, say no and do another type.of character.
Remember God loves you♥️. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. Please repent, change your life around and live for Him🙏🙏. He is coming back soon🤗☺️........
Great teachers can change your life!! So true.
She is a brave woman to talk about her personal struggles and being a black woman love you queen and rock on 🤘 ❤

Love Viola ❤️, not so much Oprah!
Amazing book. Black women's experiences need to be shared.
My sister prayed for her husband and was very specific. a couple of years later she got married to him.
Viola Davis is my Queen alomg with Angela Bassett... Cicely Tyson(the origina queen) passed away and passed on the Crown.
Who In The World Is Angela Davis Lol?! I Think You Mean Angela Bassett... 🤔🤦♀️😂🤷♀️😭
