The reality is that she couldn’t get it because she doesn’t have the entire awareness to know the fullness of Viola as a person. An interview of this depth, that touched on poverty, Jim Crow, the lack of funding for ALL stories, deserved so much more apathy and curiosity than what this interviewer was able to provide. She was shallow and undeserving of such a hallowed narrative. I wish I could be the one talking to Viola! So many nuggets to be received by an interviewer and this woman was as empty and unemotional as they come. I was CRINGING at how obsessed the colonizer was (as most white women and men of affluence are) with the black struggle. Ugh.
Sofie, the interviewer came into this interview as if she was in National geographic, she soulless she is clueless and more importantly she is too old to empathize because like old white females, they are like "what's the big deal ". I jumped here from the essence talk. it struck me that black women are free when they don't have to articulate pain like this because the whole room shares a degree of it.
The Interviewer totally blew this. SMH🤔. Viola, Thank you my sister for rising above immense adversity, sharing your life/heart, pain and achievements with ALL us🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Viola Davis! So much was said in such a short time span. I am going to share this with another actress who is striving for success in the industry. In our conversation this past Sunday I said some if the same things Mrs. Davis said. I too am encouraged, inspired and through this post strengthened by Viola Davis' story. She spoke the truth.
What a fantastic interview that went deep into Viola’s soul. The interviewer was shallow and did not connect with her story and that speaks to the power of Voila in still making this great! @tombilyeu pls bring Viola on your show.
This interview with Viola Davis fed my soul. I felt my voice was heard. Well spoken and meaty with the truth and experience of what it is to be a black woman. Thank you Viola Davis!!! And thanks to the interviewer who listen and didn’t tried to edit Viola in what she had to say.
I’ve listened to this interview twice and I’ve no problem with this interviewer. Her job isn’t to empathize with Viola but to ask the questions that give the audience a better understanding of who Viola is and what she thinks. She had limited time to get through relevant questions about Viola’s childhood, surviving poverty, her career, and the Me Too Movement. You try doing that in less than 30 minutes with someone that has a lot to say. This is not an hour long sit down televised interview with Oprah for broadcast promoting an upcoming project. As was said, it was hit the hot topics people are talking about type of interview. You got really good answers, great sound bites, and an understanding of who Viola is and what motivates her. Tina’s job as a journalist and former magazine editor was done. We’ve grown so accustomed to watching bloggers and talk show hosts, that we’ve forgotten what journalistic interviews look and sound like. Tina wasn’t rude, she didn’t talk over Viola to interrupt her, but to keep the convo hitting relevant points before time ran out.
I hate when ppl ask how u make it being in poverty... WTFFF... how your ppl slept at night owning humans and treating them like shit... YOU do what u need to do to survive smfh
Great ingredients but a truly terrible cook in the shape of the interviewer. Whilst this was brilliant there was so much more bubbling beneath the surface
Candie interviewer is emotionally detached like most white women when issues touch the intricate part of intersection. No matter how articulate Viola is, she is talking to a pain free robot.
Appreciated Viola's candor and insights -- she spoke bravely on many topics others are afraid to speak about. This interview could've been much better if someone else had asked the questions. Tina Brown couldn't even pronounce Shonda Rhimes' name correctly (not because of her accent) and it didn't flow like a conversation because she stuck to her printed questions instead of listening and creating follow-up questions.
The interviewer is a funny cat. It’s like TMZ fed her these ‘HOT TOPIC’ questions for ratings. It’s always sexier to talk about slavery and poverty and drug use/abuse and illiteracy when it comes to these successful black actors pasts.

Maybe in the beginning but, Oprah is not someone who really cares about the people she interviews. She does what will get her the most viewers and keep the money flowing.
Exactly, that's what I was thinking the entire time. The obsession with her trauma is entertaining to them.
They don't want to hear about the evil they have contributed too, at the end of the day, most WP don't care...
They are learning. Dialogue is everything
This comment right here. Nailed it.
The way this white woman frames her questions stinks with privilege.
The Interviewer totally blew this. SMH🤔.
Viola, Thank you my sister for rising above immense adversity, sharing your life/heart, pain and achievements with ALL us🙏🙏🙏
She is an amazing actress and an amazing speaker!!
Tina Brown should have been better prepared for this dynamic women. Viola Davis is a treasure, a real person.
Strong black woman. Something every little girl should see. I’m an adult and this inspired me. Thank you for sharing your testimony again!
The interviewer needs work. Her questions and tone boarder on condescension and insensitivity. She should challenge her defenses.
I have a really cool idea I want to see on screen, hearing Viola speak , is even more motivating to get it written and produced.
I loved this interview....she was raw n honest
XtremeSports Viola is a professional and VERY mature... Im NOT there yet.. #pray for me LOL
😂😂😂👏🏾
Love you Viola!
Viola Davis is an excellent actress but more importantly she is an extra ordinary person. God bless you
Great ingredients but a truly terrible cook in the shape of the interviewer. Whilst this was brilliant there was so much more bubbling beneath the surface
Candie interviewer is emotionally detached like most white women when issues touch the intricate part of intersection. No matter how articulate Viola is, she is talking to a pain free robot.
An inspiring woman! Loved this interview
i thought i was the only one who had issues with the interviewer. . just let her finish her thoughts. .
I really enjoy this this video! Such a good job Viola! This was fantastic.
The person who unlike this needs a serious awakening slap
Lionel Young Hopefully the down arrows were associated with the horrible interviewer and not the content of VDavis's comments.
I absolutely Love this Woman!!!!!! Everything about her.
The interviewer is a funny cat. It’s like TMZ fed her these ‘HOT TOPIC’ questions for ratings. It’s always sexier to talk about slavery and poverty and drug use/abuse and illiteracy when it comes to these successful black actors pasts.
she was spoon fed tags for the clips. for her its a chore and its obvious. but that's what racism without the N word does for you.
Brilliant actor and so inspiring! Her authenticity, courage, and passion is the most compelling in the world.
So glad Viola Davis just took charge here ---- and spoke -- and made this SUCH a great interview. Viola is brilliant.
Thank you for sharing parts of your journey, lady Viola!
I so love you #ViolaDavis! Your beauty! Your Talent! Your ability to bring us into a story more impactfully than we may have intended to, Your reinvention of yourself in everything you do to make us proud! I pray your every success, because I believe you are still one of the most underrated actors in the world!
I fucking love Viola for this!
Speak your truth with every breath!
This video getting attention again today on Twitter. Viola Davis has always been speaking about the moat important issues since a long time. Love this awesome lady 💪🏼👍🏽
Never heard of Tina Brown before, but after watching this video, I know why.
She is so intelligent and well spoken.
Incredible conversation...I was entranced...we love Viola...
If I only had her confidence...
Love this. Love Viola.
Viola Davis is extraordinary , confident and authentic.
Detroit in the house.✅.... WSU student. Thanks for the shout out Ms. Viola Davis..much love🥰💯
I know this was a few years ago...but still 😁Thank you😊
Amazing woman a great role model!!! Thank you Viola Davis! Thank you
such a great human being!!! hope those who got a chance to listen and watch her learn something.....
I love Viola. Seeing myself in her has been such a big thing to my self esteem, confidence and I hope myself and other dark black women knock down doors the way she does.
this interviewer didnt care at. Miss Viola is EVERYTHING!
Tina Brown. Tina. Brown. You didn’t know the gem you had in front of you and so you were completely incapable of engaging in an intimate other-centered interview that made room for the incomparable Viola Davis to really share her story with you. As a result, you asked questions like a PE teacher taking attendance right before the start of gym class and kidnapped from the audience what could have been a spectacular experience for all. What a lost opportunity. Viola Davis shine on queen 👑!
Viola Davis for President!
Absolutely ❤❤
As someone once quoted “other people only understand from their level of perception". Sadly, Tina Brown was clueless and ill prepared. Well done Viola.
Viola is such an amazing woman.
Sou brasileira. I do not speak English. Sou fã de Viola Davis. É a melhor atriz que já vi em ação. Seu talento atravessou fronteiras. Sua versatilidade e verdade, no que faz, são incríveis. Viva Viola!!!
sigh this interviewer simply could not relate. Seemed like she was not actually listening or hearing what Viola was saying
One of the most inspirational, interesting, talented and intelligent human beings right now.
This was so good!!
Viola, love for this lady, another queen!! She really interviewed herself, though. Thanks for this viewing possibility.
I wish viola all the success in the world. I can only hope and pray that TPTB gives her the opportunities to be great!
Viola Davis, I love you and continue to speak the truth ! I love that your using your platform.
I love this woman. Thank you Viola!
she’s an actress & a preacher!
Viola is absolutely amazing.!
Viola Davis is deep!! Smart, beautiful and extremely eloquent!!! So proud of her!!
I still come here. Watching again from Kenya 🇰🇪
Why is she so angry damn she needs to go create her own movies so she can pay herself the amount that will finally make her happy
OMG her story of Ms. Cicely Tyson as the physical manifestation of her dream!!! Amazing and moving 🥰😍
That interviewer is the worst
Great video!! I love you Viola Davis!! ❤❤❤
Viola Davis showed up for this interview. She was willing to go deep about things most don't talk about and the interviewer seemed to be hearing something entirely different. It's like when you're talking to someone and they are only thinking about what they are going to say next. This could have been an unbelievable conversation....on Viola's part it was, but geesh, this interviewer....ugh!
Who is this woman interviewing?! What kinds of questions are these?! How would she feel to see her father beat her mother, probably the same as any one else ...silly woman
I love this woman!! I see myself in her, I see many young black girls in her and I am so proud and grateful!
now i know why i love the movie the woman king, her role portrays strong emotions and with all her soul
Thank you so much Viola Davis you are significant to me!
Does anyone know were I can find this with Portuguese or Spanish subtitles? My mom doesnt know how to speak English and I think she would love this interview.
Gotta love this strong and intelligent woman. xxx Viola
