This was well put. I have seen first hand in my own church that sometimes we search for ourselves in the Bible instead of Christ, which leads us down a path of seeking our own satisfaction instead the glory of God. As a man, I have thought like this often as well and as she stated, it’s a way of thinking that can not hold a person and anchor them to consistent, life-changing transformation. I love her messages on this platform.

EXACTLY. We're all like little mirrors and God's is the only image that can be properly reflected in us. If you put a mirror in front of a mirror (seeking value and identity by introspection or by the opinions of other humans) the image reflected will just be infinite emptiness. We need to turn and face Him for there to be anything of meaning reflected in us.

The problem is not self love. It's that we love ourselves too much. For example, my family doesn't want to help out with anything because they are too tired, stressed, etc. Boundaries are important, but we die to ourselves and put others before ourselves. Our human nature is to constantly think of ourselves more than other people.

I don’t agree. It’s like when a person who hates the way they look is constantly in front of a mirror. To everyone else they are full of themselves, vain, narcissistic and love themselves too much. In reality they are very insecure and are always picking themselves apart in front of the mirror

Go read Hosea (especially the first three chapters). We are quick to ask, “what would I do if God asked me to do what Hosea did?” I’d argue that our self-esteem makes us miss the point: we should be focused on how we are all Gomer. We are all sinners with no defense other than Christ, fully dependent on the never ending love of God. We are even “wooed” back like Gomer. We don’t come back to God in our own power.
If we understand that we are Gomer, we see that our purpose is repentance and learning to love God.

As a member of an Orthodox Presbyterian Church (protestant, reformed, Trinitarian, Bible-believing) and a clinical psychologist, I think that the title for this video is potentially dangerous. The Bible is of course clear about putting our trust in God and not ourselves, along with demonstrating humility. The way I explained it when teaching the book of Philippians to my church (when we arrived at chapter 2 about Christ's example of humility) is like this: Essentially an example of poor self-esteem would be a person who fails a test in school and makes the conclusions that they are stupid. That is not "humility" but a cognitive distortion. This simple illustration should explain that there is a place for "self-esteem" when properly understood. This does not preclude the need to trust in God rather than ourselves as Scripture admonishes. A simple definition of humility that a pastor gave me years ago goes like this: Humility is seeing ourselves as God sees us. Does God see us as "stupid" because we failed a test as in my previous illustration? I realize this is not a perfect definition of humility. The point remains, however, that dismissing the concept of "self-esteem" without more careful definitions is, to my mind, reckless. By the way, I love and am grateful for Desiring God.

It's amazing that someone seemingly educated and that has an understanding of the concept of cognitive distortion would be a theist. Holding beliefs that must be held by faith in order to keep feeling good... pot meet kettle.

    ITS CHRIST COMING BACK AGE

  • @ValLeeWeblog
    @ValLeeWeblog 3 года назад

Christ was our example of servanthood and women’s position is that of servanthood to her family as a worker in the home. All Scripture is for obedience. God makes it simple for women, they are simply called to be workers in the home, loving their husband and children-1 Corinthians chapter 11. She is to dress in shamefaced modesty so men look at her as a sister in all purity.
And we all are to consider each person as more important than ourselves.
And it is all about the Bible’s teaching alone from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 with no additions or subtractions, taught word by word in all purity with no man’s additions and false interpretations that are usually dressed in all fancy lingo that puffs-up the teacher.
This, false woman teacher ministers under Matt Chandler. He lied about the sexual abuse of an 11-year-old girl by a children’s leader, Matthew Tonne, who was on paid staff. Though the children’s leader should have been hung from the highest tree by the law, Chandler hid the fact and stated he was removed due to drunkenness, never disclosing the child rape. Sick in every form! www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/takes-a-village-church-deceive-family-southern-baptist/
And Chandler did not want to tell the truth regarding Andy Landrum, a church member and volunteer, who was involved in child sexual acts and one involved a child who attends the Village Church. Chandler’s response was simply, Landrum had “self-disclosed hidden sin.” And Chandler chose to golf instead of attending the meeting addressing Landrum.
“On Sunday 10/13/19, according to a member who was present, the parents were informed that a children’s & youth volunteer by the name of Andy Landrum had confessed on Wednesday 10/9/19, to ‘having some inappropriate sexual contact with a child and also having tried to videotape children at his place of employment (a school).”
Matt Chandler, a false teacher, tells us we must hate ourselves if we are white. He stands with the Critical Race Theory of Marxism or Black Lives Matter. It is as I mentioned above, considering everyone as being more important than ourselves no matter the race, intelligence, social position, etc. It is not becoming a Marxist in the name of a lying movement of communistic control.
And he is a vile Calvinist who teaches the doctrines of demons.

Male and female are Sons of God and both are the bride of Christ. To emphasize one based on your gender when Joel's Pentecost prophecy (Acts 2:17,18) clearly indicates there is no more male or female, rich or poor, old or young in the Spirit. Men might want to be mighty warrior kings of the King of Kings, but really so are women in the Spirit. Btw no where does it say 'daughter of the King' in the bible. The symbology in prophetic books and others like Hebrews and Revelation is always sons or kings or priests in relation to our position in Christ. Never daughters, queens or priestess.

    • @rebeccaotis8056

I fail to see what a woman talking about the biblical illiteracy of Christian women has to do with social justice. Are you saying that they are only talking about her and her views because she is a woman and because they want to be fair? Or are you trying to say that women learning to properly read, interpret, and apply scripture is somehow about social justice? I am sorry, but as a female who was raised in the church I have seen first hand the Biblical illiteracy that is rampant with Christian women. Women's ministries are very touchy-feely, the books for women are very light and touchy-feely, the Christian fiction books geared toward women are the same and often border on soft porn. There is zero depth in the vast majority of women's ministry and it is leaving women weak and vulnerable to false doctrine. Praise God that a woman finally stood up and is exhorting women to grow spiritually and is begging the church for more depth within women's ministry.
