I am an old fan and though I miss the glory days when I was 20 I am now 40 and love the newer Marduk at 40 more than I do the old. But loved the older stuff when I was young. I g u love Marduk like I do just but all of there stuff and listen to all there albums. Each one is good and some are faster and and some slower. Just embrace them for they are all great. ROM.12 wormwood and this one. Are my favorite Marduk amongst enslaved vertebrae and newer satyricon as well
I think to a lot of people Black Metal is not simply just music, its a reflection of a lifestyle and of the feelings of those creating and those listening to it. I think people who are involved with it can relate to and identify with its concepts and content. Otherwise, they'd probably be listening to something else.

While I'm not sure if I would put Marduk as one of my favourite extreme metal bands, I can't help but love Mortuus' vocals - he's got to be one of my favourite vocalists for all of extreme metal. His screams/growls/snarls are so fucking sinister, maniacal, diabolical and simply evil (not to mention unique), and are some of the most perfect vocals for the extreme styles of metal - I can picture him fitting in other types of bands, not just black metal.

I have such a huge list of bands throughout black metal alone (coinciding with a gigantic list of extreme metal in general) that I have yet to explore, so I'll have to put Devian and Witchery on hold for a while. I HAVE checked out Funeral Mist though, picking up Salvation on CD about a month or 2 ago, and they are pretty wicked! They remind me of a Swedish Deathspell Omega

Those drums are tremendous and I'm almost 99% certain there's no triggers or any pro tools beat detective rubbish either. The drums sound well roomy which is a bold mix decision for music at this tempo. I like it. A lot.
