    Sounds like a good option for many average smart home users. Higher tech with time on their hands might want to can go to home assistant and a build your own option. This looks like a good path for me.

      I think solutions like this and Home Assistant Green etc. are ideal for those that just want to get going with something out of the box. It's not perfect, but it's all moving in the right direction. Not everyone wants to spend hours in front of a computer tinkering away to get the simplest of things done.

    An interesting puece of home automation kit.
    Ive been using amazon alexa for home automation for just over a year. This experience has given me the appetite to explore further.
    I have been contemplating home assistant for several months but have bern aprehensive due to the complexity.
    I then learned of home assistant green, which I thought would be more suitable for my level of home automation understanding.
    Then I learned of this device which seems to be the safest option that (hopefully) gives me an easier entry into home assistant and additionally provides the radios that are add-ons with home assistant green at additional cost...plus I get a home automation dashboard too.
    Exactly what I need.. so ive ordered one using your code and got your discount 👍.
    It is scheduled for delivery next tuesday (christmas eve), in perfect time to spend my christmas break experimenting 😀

      Well, excitement has waned and turned to anger since receiving this piece of kit christmas eve.
      Upon opening thd box it appears to be a very cheap looking tablet from yje 90's. NOTHING was loaded on it whatsoever...so not the plug-n-play solution that i was lead to believe.
      I have spent the whole of my boxing day faffing around with it, having to update firmware, then try to install the home assistant and Tuya app.
      It is now in a boot loop, stuck on the linknlink splash screen...it has been in this state for hours, I have tried everything..power down etc...there is no reset hole to be seen either, so i'm well screwed.
      I'm left with an expensive piece of pkastic junk.
      I'm very angry, particularly as this was received as a christmas present from my wife.
      If you are considering this DONT BOTHER.

      @David-bl1bt sorry to hear you're having issues, I haven't encountered that problem but i can see on their Facebook page that there is mention of an issue a few months ago that caused a boot loop. Did you create an account on the app first or directly on the device?

      @@Byteofgeek thanjs for taking the trouble to reply, i really appreciate it.
      Worryingly, there is no app on google play, when checking on the linknlink website it states that it has been removed! Not a good sign.
      Consequently I had to login on the isg device.
      I don't do facebook so I'm lost as to how to find any solution.

    This is a brick on my wall, at the moment the iSG dashboards that come from the onboard HA only work if you use the onboard HA. The updates on iSG HA are slow and no addon store except if linknlink set one up for you.
    Its not really working for me, I've got a Pi5 in a Pironman5 case thats awesome, I can display my own HA on the iSG but the iSG constantly freezes so Ive given up for now.

      Yes it does have some issues, I highlighted some of the those that I had spotted in the video. However the team are either already aware and are fixing or have fixed them, they seem to be pretty quick to resolve things.

      So true, mine is an original kickstarter, and I've not got much enjoyment from it, keeps freezing.

      That's interesting, and is yours the same model as I reviewed? I used this for quite a while whilst reviewing it and having it lock up wasn't one of the issues I encountered.

    So equivalent to a Pi and a display. Doesn't seem groundbreaking to me. No audio, no LEDs, no buttons.

    • @Byteofgeek
      @Byteofgeek  2 месяца назад +1

      Not quite 🙂
      It has audio, just not demonstrated, it also has built in ZigBee which obviously the Pi doesn't have. It also has infrared remote control but I don't have the remote to be able to demonstrate.
      Agreed there's no LED and no buttons, not sure why you would need buttons? LED possibly to show that it's on maybe? What were you thinking of specifically?
      Sure you could cobble something together but not everybody wants to do that or has the knowledge to be able to do that. This is an option for those that prefer another route 👍

    Lets open the box only to see nothing...
    Who are you trying to decieve? HA is the platform, you build the universe uppon, not the end product. You develop the integrations that compute all interesting stuff for you and this does require some silicon... I tell you that a single NUC is not enough for 500m2 house, and you claim that some cheap chinise tablet can be the 'heart' of some smart home?

    • @Byteofgeek
      @Byteofgeek  2 месяца назад +2

      Not sure where in the world you're from but the average sized house in Europe is 120m2 which is more than capable of being controlled by a single NUC and a device like this so 500m2 is, well, pretty huge. If range was ever a problem then surely you'd add a booster just like any other network?
