I have one anecdote Reagan would never say. 160 million of 280 million in USSR had free housing and basically owned their place. Just for working 40 hours a week, and getting job was guaranteed. +Free healthcare, and free education up to Ph.D. By 1985 many had cash on hand to buy car.. They were more expensive than 2 bedroom appartments.
Oh my bad, this is not anecdote, this was a trueth. That is why Reagans spent billions of these laughing taxpayers money to fight USSR.
My favorite is still the "missed me" afterca balloon popped during his speech.

The long distance rail networks are amazing, they may be a bit slow and outdated once you're outside the "core" of Russia, but its still super impressive how extensive it is.
If you really wanted to you could go from Makhachlala to Vladivostok by train only for cheap, though depending on flight prices most people would rather fly or do a mixed trip of both train and flying for such extreme distances, but it is a marvel that it's even possible.
