  • Visiting Leamington, Ontario to view the solar eclipse was a good choice for me. While I couldn't get into Point Pelee National Park (lineup started at 5:30am), it was already full by the time I arrived at 10:35. I went to the nearby Mersea Park which was two minutes away. Parking was free, great view of the waterfront, access to a public washroom, and food available at a nearby diner. It was not crowded at all with less than 100 people. Those who I talked to were from out of town like Windsor, Detroit and London. People were mainly friendly talking to each other and relaxing. Many had pulled out their blankets, foldable chairs, and food. Those who brought children had access to the playground and the few picnic tables. It was exciting and fun and everyone cheered when totality hit.
    The video may not be the greatest (I didn't have a star tracker to keep the sun in the centre), but that's fine. At least I got to witness an event of a lifetime. Well worth it.
