Downloading it from the website instead of getting steam beta access would have given me a huge red flag already. i think the way they can bypass the 2FA is through the "token" that they were able to grab when you launch a malicious exe or file. The token serves as a way to help us not to login to our account every single time we boot up our PC. It quite common method to steal your account yet it still quite effective. Be careful guys.
