I started watching the ABC soaps when I was a kid, but OLTL was my absolute favorite. I was fascinated by Viki's DID storylines. The show always had a gothic feel to it...and for some reason it appealed to me.
I miss oltl so much. I have memories of that show starting at age 4. It was when Tina was in the jungle trying to prove it was her and cords son and if she was given a postion and if she awoke from the cries of the baby it was hers....
Right! Some say she would be the blueprint for Erica Kane on All My Children. Agnes Nixon created All My Children around 1965 but it was rejected by NBC, she left to create One Life To Live and when that was a hit, All My Children was ressurected and the rest is history. I would have loved for Erika Slezak to have gone on Eastenders and play an American Cousin Of The Butcher Family and acknowledge that her Cousin Janine was a handful when she was living with her in America. 😊
It was disgusting what they did to our stories. I watched One Life to Life from the time I was 8 until the time it was cancelled. I started watching when the original Brad and Jenny started on the show. Jenny was a nun! That's the first story I remember.
I agree 1000% how in the heck did they cancel One life to live and All my children but keep some of the other soaps on different channels? I am glad that they didn't cancel GH. I"ll just die if they do that. I've been watching since I was 10 years old. Smh
Melanie, Jameson Parker was such a charmer as Brad Vernon and he never got any acclaim for it! When famous names who got their start on soaps are rolled off, Jameson is never included. I loved the cat & mouse (Jenny was afraid to trust this smooth operator ladies man) romance between Brad and Jenny, Katherine Glass. A lot of the soap stories are made up of emotional filler for us, But original Brad & Jenny really captured my imagination. A twosome to remember.
I liked them also, but Dorian was my fave soap opera character of all time. Big brown eyes, brash, sarcastic, hot-tempered, yet sensitive, introverted, loving and protective of her family.
Great clip with Erika and Robin! They have such a presence that they don't even have to say a word. It's clear to me that the hosts have not watched One Life To Live a day in their lives. The fans in the audience should have been doing the interviewing.
I hated how the show edited the episode together and gave so much time to Judith Light who hadn’t been on the show in decades in lieu of the other actors.
OLTL AND ABC really did robin very dirty on so many occasions first during the 80s writing dorian into corners and then JFP killed literally dorians husband sent Cassie to an insane asylum and really forced her out turning dorian into a baby killer. But Robin's fan got her back and how do they reward her? Constant pay cuts and no emmy nominations. And then again forcing her out early even though oltl had been canceled and was in its final year. Her loyalty to that part was so amazing but she put up with so much @@@@ im surprised she came back at all after 2000.
Oltl was such a great show. They had the best actors in daytime. The reason oltl was cancelled according to the abc brass was " we were cancelling amc & didnt want to look like it was favoritism " what ?? So general hospital wouldnt look like favoritism. The ratings were good & the show always came in way under budget . The show that replaced it was cancelled 2 months in. They were the only show that always had diversity. It started with a great story that was so controversial in 1968. They had a light skinned black woman pretending to be white.
Actually the original plan by ABC was to cancel OLTL first, then cancel AMC the next year, then maybe cancel GH. CBS had done a similar thing the prior years, they cancelled Guiding Light in 2009, then cancelled As the World Turns the next year. However, AMC ratings started dropping so quickly due to bad storylines that ABC decided to kill two birds with one stone. GH was in the crosshairs for cancellation too. Anthony Geary stated ABC wanted to replace GH with Good Afternoon America, but when that show didn't do well in the ratings, GH was saved.
Ms strasser played Rachel on aw. Then she came to OLTL. Nancy Pinkerton originated the roll. Clint Ritchie originated the role of Clint. Both of these women should remember that Clint Ritchie originated that role. That was the end of that show when he took over that role. Not a bad recast but this brought about the end of the story.
I like Jerry Van Dorn, especially when he was "Ross Marler" on Guiding Light, but he is not the real "Clint Buchanan." Clint Richie will be the only Clint Buchanan for me and the writers made a mistake by not killing off the character after Richie died.

Nice that she got to say goodbye, on her terms, and with such style and flair. I will miss Dorian. I hope this isn't goodbye to Robin on my TV.

Oddly, both ES and RS were recasts too! It’s just that no one remembers the first Viki or the first two Dorians.
Jerry ver Dorn will always be Ross Marler from Guiding Light.
