I really appreciate long term shoe reviews. Too many reviewers are just chasing the latest releases. I think most people want to buy 1 pair per year and put well over 1000km on them. Knowing which shoes will hold up and which will be dead in the back half of the year is super helpful!
@@garthcox4307 My first shoe when I started running a few years ago was Pegasus 37 and I kept them for 2000km. Now I have Vomero 18 with 1000km. The uppers show almost no wear, the outsole is only marginally worn down. Personally, I think a daily trainer should last one year for mid packer schlubby runner like myself. 1-2000 km. If you need to buy 2-3 daily trainers per year, plus racer, plus long run shoe, it's getting out of hand.

The trouble with these super soft midsoles is that they don’t last. Think we need a “cost per mile” in shoe reviews now! Wonder how well the Pro 4 will hold up.

Well, not exactly a full truth. I still have the Novablast¹ (in use!) Didn't like it as much as reviewers did. I preferred the Glideride¹ Now, we have the Glideride Max but I've found a shop with G¹ in my size! Guess, which pair I'm more tempted to buy?
appreciate revisiting the shoe after many miles so many reviewers just give you 50 miles sometimes 100 but most of us keep our shoes longer than that so this is very necessary. Thank you.
This is what I've been saying! For me, I lost that bounce back feeling after about 50ks. I'm a bit on the heavier side though. I could be imagining it, or there is a really dramatic resilience straight out of the box that goes away. I was so disappointed.
Hi there, as someone who works in Material science and chemistry, that 20% bio- based materials and EVA mix from the 4s was bang on and played a crucial role with the energy return and consistency. Let's wait if the bounce or energy return of their other shoes will face the same issue, that was released alongside the 5s. If so, possible QC issue (manufacturing). If no issues with other shoes, most likely an issue with the board. They might have went over the threshold just to prove a point with the Novablast 5. As someone with experience in this field, we usually dial it back before that drop off and balance the ratio. We need a similar shoe from Asics with almost the same formulation with 5s to verify, however not quite sure which one to verify as other shoes from Asics with the Blast max will have different ratio. By the way, anyone reading this, look at the nimbus 26 and 27 same midsole, Kayano 30 and 31 same. This whole debacle is probably an issue from the higher ups chasing figures with the 5s. Thanks for the review on the 5s. Someone who works with Big Cushion 😂
@@D_mercs what do you mean when you say “they might have went over the threshold to prove a point” and “we usually dial it back”…? you lost me a bit in this comment.
@@MedicineRunner Hi there, my bad as I wasn't able to elaborate on those points. For the threshold part and the adjustment or fine tuning, in testing different polymer blends we usually do it in batch with different amount of ratio, foaming agents, and application. In relation to the shoes, its possible that they have already found the sweet spot however was met with upsides and downsides such as the density of the mix, increased in compression strength but decreased compression resilience, and other values such as softness/hardness, energy return, etc. In regards to proving a point with the 5s, its possibly related to the previous versions of the NBs, for example people wasn't fond of the 4s as it was firmer than the 3s. So its possible that with the 5s they wanted to tick as much boxes they can to prove a point that if people don't want something from the previous version, we'll change it and give them what they want however it will come with downsides. Sorry for the long reply. Overall, this whole debacle with the 5s is possibly related to the sourcing of the material used with the BLAST Max, a possible QC issue (properties of the materials) thus affecting the overall cell structure leading to decreased mechanical properties of the foam. Also, they might have added POE into the mix, it may have lowered the density of the foam (making it softer) with maintained energy absorption and return but that POE mix may have also affected other mechanical and dynamic impact properties. At the end of the day, its an EVA blend midsole it comes with ups and downs.
Not sure if they did truly gave people want as I'm only using the Nimbus, Kayano and NB 4s for walking (groceries, travel), and LSD. I typically buy the new ones if they have minimum to medium increase in capabilities but not the ones with drastic changes such as changes in midsole compound.
Thanks for this information. It validates my concerns about the shoe. I'm much smaller so I might get 400 miles but that's still not enough. That's where I think the Superblast or some heavier shoes with denser foams prove their value. Almost 500 miles in the Superblast and I can run multiple days in a row and every step is the same.
I'm glad it's not just me. I started to notice the trampoline effect had almost completely gone in one shoe after a couple of weeks. A couple of more weeks, and it was like all the bounce and energy return had vanished from both shoes.
If you really want to go back to an older Novablast, you're in luck; Asics is still selling new pairs of the Novablast 3. The only thing they've changed is the name: now they call it the Dynablast 5 and it's only available from the 'member access' section of their website. I'd be interested to see a review, because I've never heard of shoe companies re-releasing recent performance models in their full glory, under a different name.
Oh man bummer to hear about the durability. Thanks for this update, Andy. Hope Asics can find a way to bring back some of the durability in the first 3 versions.
Had the exact same experience in the Version 3. Wanted to take them to 300m, but right around 200-250, they just went flat. Mind you I'm a relative lightweight @130# also. Superblast2 on the other hand just keeps going and going!
Just about to head out on a 6 miler with my Novablast 5. At 105 miles and still bouncy. Hoping that mine retain the bounce until my half marathon in May. Thanks for the insight!!
I've had 1,2,3 and now 5. Honestly not blown away by the 5 after 170km. It feels more like how it's now been positioned - a daily trainer. As a heavier runner I've never felt the same bounce as with the OG nova 1, which was pretty much laugh-out-loud bouncy. I loved that 'rebel' shoe that helped launch Asics out of the doldrums. Also agree that the toe box is not as roomy. A nova 1 foam, nova 3 toe box and a nova 5 outsole/gusset/upper and tongue would be the ultimate.
I have mine at 250+ miles now and it feels increidble. I weigh 150 lbs and have adopted more of a heel strike with this shoe. My gf put them on yesterday and said they felt very comfortable. They might be slowing down a bit but energy return still feels nice to me. Taking them to 350 with joy
i've done about 500km with my novablast 3. its certainly not the same shoe but i still love them. its my go to whenever i dont feel like running. its just so comfortable.
I have run 1300km in my Novablast 3 TR. Still very usable. The inside material at the heel did break a little at about 500km in the right foot, later for the left foot. Otherwise, the upper is almost perfect, with a little bit of scuffing at the big toes and on the laces. At about 1100km I started using my second pair of Novablast 3 (not TR) which was sitting in the box for a while. The initial feel was that it was firmer than the old pair. So I left the TR only for the easy runs and have been using the new pair for the faster runs. I'm at 500km now. The material at the back of the left foot started to develop little hole. Otherwise all good. (FYI, I'm 180cm tall and weigh 70kg).
Sad to hear this. Currently have almost done 300km with my pair and they still feel very fresh and bouncy and haven't noticed any wear so far. But I'm 65kg and 1.83m which might causes less wear on the foam. Hope they will keep feeling so nice for many more km's as I love it for my easy runs.
About 250km in my NB5s and still feel great last couple of runs including a 27km long run. I'm about 5'8" 68kg, midfoot striker and tend to get good mileage from most shoes. Hopefully these will keep going 🤞
Thanks for this, was siding towards this over the EVO SL. Like some of the other posts, I'm looking to get 700km+ from a shoe - think I'll likely give the EVO SL a go now.
@@TheFODRunner - Sounds good, looking forward to your review! Just out of curiosity, how long did it take your AP3 to break in - not sure if you remember?
Great review of a shoe I’ve considered but less likely I’d buy now with the information. I wonder if my AP4 is going to be a similar experience with such a soft foam. 🤔
Maybe you can try Superblast 2, much more expensive but the midsole gets better the more you run in the shoes, my pair is almost 1000 km and the shoes still feel very comfortable.
Great update and I fully agree with you that the Novablast 5 loses their bounce. When I first started running in the Novablast 5, they felt great at easy and up-tempo paces. I possibly could have used them for tempo runs but, at the other end of the spectrum, they felt awkward at recovery paces. 200 km later and now they're great for recovery and easy runs, but I wouldn't use them for up-tempo or faster runs. Despite losing their bounce, I'm still a fan. I'm just a fan for different reasons. For faster runs, I just go back to the Mach 6, the Adios 6 (yep, I'm still on the 6) or the Deviate 2. It actually makes sense to me as this means the Novablast 5 would likely pair well with the Superblast 2 but, unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to try the Superblast 2 out yet.
Interesting to hear this! I don't have the Novablast 5, mostly because I've had a difficult relationship with the series so far... I got the first version and really, really loved the ride. But I only did 5 runs in them, because I couldn't run more than 3 miles with them without getting bleeding heels. When the 3 came out and the heel collar looked much better, I gave them a chance. The upper turned out to be very comfortable and the ride was good, although nowhere near as exciting as that of the first version. Just as you describe for the 5, the bounce diminished quickly and even before 200 miles the midsole felt completely dead. I ran in them until close to 600 miles, but for most of that they where an uninspired, boring, deadish daily trainer that didn't hold up to it's competition. For example: during that time I also used the Saucony Triumph 20, Saucony Endorphin Shift and later the Asics Glideride 3 for the same kind of runs and I preferred all of those over the Novablast 3. It sounds like not much has changed...
Oh gosh, sounds like you havent had much luck with the lineup... I would avoid this then as I can confirm it still has a similar shape/fit (just a big snugger in this one)
Getting me thru the cold. My Clifton 9s older are much harder. Suspected the NB5 would harden progressively over time like most foam soles do. But thanks for forewarning.
I'd consider Andy a "heavier" runner (no offense), and think that will impact the midsole, more than if you're 70ish kg. I have no real concerns and only use for easy runs, around 250km so far. It's also £135, which isn't cheap or expensive, so relatively relaxed. Happy running 👍🏽
Interesting to hear… when I posted this on Instagram I had a flood of messages saying they felt the same so I’m pretty sure it’s not just me who’s experiencing this
You are right, I am heavier and so I’ll wear shoes down differently to others for sure! But I don’t think I’m the only one! The key though is they’re still nice and soft and enjoyable, just minimal rebound left… and for 135 quid I’d say they’re still good value… as long as they keep staying soft!
No surprise my "shoe of the year ad2024" award went to... Novablast v1 (still in use) & Glideride v1 (rip) And I have to say, I disliked the Novablast when new. Then... and up to this day it's a favorite do-it-all workout shoe. Now I think I'll keep that pair, to compare it with v5, when it gets older. I suspected the v5 "foam was made soft to sell the shoe well" ...but not to last long in the happy mode! Sadly, your review just confirms what I am yet to discover 😕
I'm struggling with this shoe but it's because I recently bought Superblast 2 which probably makes Novablast 5 redundant...Novablast 5 tends to run a bit long for me and I think it's the issue too. I'm usually a UK size 12 but I reckon 11.5 would have been better. I'm using it more as a gym/ casual walking shoe...
I was able to use the Vista for about 430 miles, apart from the wear on the outsole, it is still usable and I immediately bought a second pair. My Magnify 2 have 500 miles and my Triumph 21 400 and both are full usable. Btw. NB1 still are the best NB 😊 Thank you for the review
When did you first run in these? Curious if you think the temperature might affect? Now that we're in the throes of winter the foam on the Novablast shoes seems to lose a lot of bounce in the cold weather. I prefer Pebax foam in colder temps (Saucony Endorphin Speed or Topo Cyclone 2 for instance). I also prefer the foam blend in the NB Rebel v4 So I'd be curious if things improve when temps warm up again.
I can't say I'm surprised, I'll buy more 4s. I'd want a shoe like this to get close to 400 miles. The overhyping of the 5 by certain shoe tubers has been embarrassing, I guess asics are generous with the freebies? This channel tells it like it is. I've never had grip issues in the 4s except for autumn leaves.
As a 6ft 5, 97kg runner, I think they've already started losing bounce at 100km. As you say, still good for easy and long runs but it took 500km-600km for the same feeling in the Novablast 3's. Still miles better than the Superblast for me though, which were rubbish from the outset.
I love the Superblast! I have 3 OG pairs and one pair of SB2 (didn’t buy any at full price tho and 2 are second hand). Basically the only shoes I run in apart from my trail shoes
3 runs in the NB V5 so far, first was 18k workout at 10k paces, 2nd was 33k long run bouncing between recovery / easy paces. Handled both of these runs flawlessly. Tried it on a 10k easy run with some strides the day before a hard workout and once I got past 5k paces in the strides the level of squish and rebound couldn't keep up. Now I wasn't expecting it to, but I can see long term the shoe will become a recovery/easy/long run without pace injections. Which I guess isn't a bad thing, it just loses some of the versatility I thought I was getting. My real concern is the foam starts to die at 300km and then starts the dreaded medial side collapsing.
I can confirm i havent had the medial collapse... yet! And yes, any shoe with that much stack isnt the best with strides... but I will say the bounce is definitely gone, however they are still super soft, so I think they just need "adjusting" to a different purpose into the rotation
@@TheFODRunner I tried it on my 10k recovery run today, and it was great. Normally been wearing NewBalance Propel V5, since it's formulation of FuelCell is super soft, but the nylon plate gives it just enough laterally stability to balance it out. I just need to find the right use for the NB V5 long term.
Evo sl also lost their magic after ~350-370km. Super foam is still super foam you know what I mean, I thought they're gonna be durable like adios pro 3 were, but seems like I just forgot how they actually feel since I don't have them anymore, they may feel dead after 400kms too cause I gave them away after ~300kms. I used them only for races and the first 100km were only for "break-in". I bought evo sl to replace my superblast 1( I did 1000km in superblast1) for long runs since they are cheaper and easier to get, but it seems like they will not last as long as I wish. Puma magmax next?
@@suranperera4620 yeah, they are durable, at least the first version was because the foam itself is firmer I believe. I don't have superblast 2 because they are hard to get in my country 🥲, I think I will buy puma magmax, heard that they are good and durable too.
I have 400 miles in my version 3 and it still feels pretty good. However, it doesn’t have the bounce that it once had, but I still feel like there is about 200 miles left in the shoes.
190 lbs, 6’2”, midfoot, sub-20 5k. Novablast 4 died at 125 miles. Still using them 150 in but looking for something to replace it soon. I use my Superblast 2 for some workouts but might transition it to my everyday. Would love to know a daily that holds up for heavier runners similar to how the 4’s were 0 to 100 miles.
Honestly it might be worth considering the new saucony ride 18, or the brooks hyperion max / even the max 2.... the brooks foams are firmer but hold up well
Darn. I've only used the novablast 1. Went through about 5 pairs. I'm too afraid to try the others. I might try to get an older saucony speed on discount. Such a versatile shoe that lasts a long time with good traction.
Having never liked soft foams (except when I'm running really slow) I read the reviews and decided to stick with another pair of the NB4's, and only consider the NB5's when they'll be on discount next year. This review is the final nail in the coffin. I'm never buying that shoe. Glad I was smart to ignore the hype and stick to what worked for me.
As much as I’m curious to try a Novablast and definitely thought about it, I haven’t for three main reasons. As you mentioned, the durability is average. Also, the grip is kinda mid and they never go on clearance because they’re so popular.
Well worth trying at some stage... I still recommend, but I am gutted the bounce has gone, I cant lie! Still soft though... obviously there are better and more durable options out there!
I loved the V5 for the first few runs, but I’d say around 50 in it lost some of its magic. It is still my go to easy day shoe, as it’s comfortable and one of the few shoes I’ve got I could do 12+ miles in without foot issues.
Having tried both the NB5 and the Glideride Max- FF Blast Max is a let down IMO. It feels bouncy out of the box but loses that feeling very quickly. The NB5 became a mellow plodder after 70km and the Glideride Max was pretty much the same only slightly more responsive due to the FF Blast Eco layer and stiffer build. I think Asics need to go back to a slightly firmer, more predictable foam for their daily trainers. The Noosa Tri 15 has taken over daily duties for me.
I have 800 miles in version 3 and I keep runing in it. Easy, slow runs with my daughter. When I'm alone, I use something newer, but It's crasy to see a lot of youtubers thinking to change their pair after 200-300 miles. Of course it doesn't feel like is new but consumerism has a heavy word here. About 20 years ago when I finished high school, we had worse running shoes and we weared them for a lot more time and miles. Now a shoe is like a pair of socks.
Bad to hear but hopefully it will be a different experience for me. I remember ppl said their Rebel v4 felt dead after 300km but I ran 900km in mine and they felt great.
I just hit 510k (315 miles) on NB 4 and I think they are good until I hit 600km. They still look very good but the outsole starts showing wear and tear. Now deciding if I should just get another NB 4 at discounted price or just get the 5s.
I felt the exact same thing with my novablast 3. My novablast felt dead at around 250km which for me was a long way short of where i wanted it. Though i wasnt sold on the shoe in the first (non dead) 250km anyway.
For me when I’m in a heavily cushion shoe something like that in the beginning, it’s just so lovely but then all of a sudden it gets to be like around that part and like yeah everything still works fun. It’s just not as fun and I find myself grabbing it less and less and lessand all of a sudden I see it on the shelf. They say well I haven’t been in that shoe in a while.
I have about 60k on my NB5s. On wet roads I have found the outsole grip very poor, verging on dangerous. So much so that I'll only take them out when it's dry.
Rarely make it past 300 miles in any shoe these days and having a 3 shoe rotation keeps the mileage down on all of them so they all feel great for longer if that makes sense 🤷🏼♂️🤣
@@TheFODRunner my Novablast 5 arrived today. Had trouble finding a size 10 anywhere! First step in feel great! Looking forward to giving a test over the weekend. Thanks
I got no more than in the 150 miles in Reb 4 but soft foams usually do that in some form before they bottom out . Brilliant shoe otherwise . Love the Nov 5 it really is a class shoe and great value. Most of the you tube shoe reviewers have pretty much said the 5 kicks the 4 ass but it really is down to the individual. I also love the NB 880 crazy good old school shoe .
I just hit 200 miles and hurt my calf. I over pronate but yeah I blame the shoe. It really started to warp at 180, should have got new shoes then. That said love the shoes just replaced them with the same shoe just gunna be expensive getting new ones every two months Also Hitting rocks in these beats them down fast noticed a huge difference adding some light trails and gravel. You can see he is doing it here in the as well.
@ I didn’t find the velocity had much either, that was more “softer” than “bouncier”… the novablast had softness and bounce until around 150/160 miles and now it’s just soft… and I’d still chose the novablast soft over the puma soft
YMMV, quite literally. Andy is pretty hard on shoes. The Clifton for instance that went dead for him after 100 miles is still going strong for me after 200. I’m still early on my Novablast 5. They really became a shoe I gravitate towards after the 20th mile or so. This week I’m trying to stack up the miles on my superblast, though, to perhaps race a 10k in them on Sunday. I think it’s great that he is one of the few who actually updates us with anything beyond 100 miles. Quite refreshing to see, actually. No jab at content creators that stop at first 50 miles or so impressions, it’s still very entertaining and helpful. However, Andy is the man for coming back to us after 100, 200, 400, or more miles on shoes.
Absolutely 👍 it’s depends on the type of runner too, I’m low cadence and probably a “harder thudding footstrike” so I’ll perhaps wear them down moreso than someone else
@ that’s an excellent point too. I’m super high cadence. Always been, even when I started. Perhaps that’s why I tend to be easier on shoes, despite my weight.
I'd still be buying Nike Invincible Run V2 if they were available, if its a great shoe, just bring out an updated upper or new colours dont break that magic.
Not the point of the video but I feel like the vaporfly 3 are easily the best version of that shoe haha. Guess just goes to show everyone has different experiences!

I think most people want to buy 1 pair per year and put well over 1000km on them.
Knowing which shoes will hold up and which will be dead in the back half of the year is super helpful!
Agree Shoutout for these reviews that also give an honest opinion after 200-300 miles.
Maybe not 1000km but realistically 650km/400 miles. Asics must have done long term testing before release, they must have known surely....

@@D_mercs OK, now I gotchu. Thanks so much, very informative!
This is my experience of the SB over all other trainers I’ve tried
I'm glad it's not just me. I started to notice the trampoline effect had almost completely gone in one shoe after a couple of weeks. A couple of more weeks, and it was like all the bounce and energy return had vanished from both shoes.
Such a shame isn’t it!
Thanks for the info. 🎉
I had heard of this about a month ago? Went to check out the specs and sure enough, it looks identical!
Some of the asics outlet shops still have 3s, certainly the one at cannock. The 4s haven't reached them yet.
Oh dear. I have nearly 200km in mine and right now they're still feeling great...
Be interesting to see how yours are past 300+k, I feel my heavier footstrike has probably contributed… you’re much lighter on your feet!
Awesome, I hope they do too!
Puma Grip never fails ❤😎
And it still lasts until 800/1000km 😉
Which puma can be compared to novablast 5
I have mine at 250+ miles now and it feels increidble. I weigh 150 lbs and have adopted more of a heel strike with this shoe. My gf put them on yesterday and said they felt very comfortable. They might be slowing down a bit but energy return still feels nice to me. Taking them to 350 with joy
Man you are good giving feedback. I would still get the TR variant for any sort of off-road runs.
i've done about 500km with my novablast 3. its certainly not the same shoe but i still love them. its my go to whenever i dont feel like running. its just so comfortable.
Hope they keep going strong for you 👊
Fantastic in-depth review 👏
Thanks!
Thanks for this, was siding towards this over the EVO SL. Like some of the other posts, I'm looking to get 700km+ from a shoe - think I'll likely give the EVO SL a go now.
I am keen to try those too!
@@TheFODRunner - Sounds good, looking forward to your review! Just out of curiosity, how long did it take your AP3 to break in - not sure if you remember?
@ well over 100 miles!
@@TheFODRunner - Thanks for that! Bought two more pairs during the Black Friday sales - will need to factor in the break-in for the race pair!
Great review of a shoe I’ve considered but less likely I’d buy now with the information. I wonder if my AP4 is going to be a similar experience with such a soft foam. 🤔
I hope not! The AP3 went on for ages, I’d hope the 4 was similar!
Maybe you can try Superblast 2, much more expensive but the midsole gets better the more you run in the shoes, my pair is almost 1000 km and the shoes still feel very comfortable.
I'd love too but they dont make a UK13 in the superblast
Brilliant review Andy
Glad now I got Sb2 😀
Thanks buddy! Wish I could try that one!! Very jealous haha
@ Andy you’re brilliant keep up the running pal!
@ oh any I’m paying these off and was hiding them from my GF during Jan!
@ thank you buddy that’s very kind 👊
I m still running in NB2 (just started a fresh pair) … and love it :)
So jealous!!
Thank you for your honesty..I hope the Navablast 5 lasts more than 500 miles
It will, it just wont be as bouncy
I'd consider Andy a "heavier" runner (no offense), and think that will impact the midsole, more than if you're 70ish kg. I have no real concerns and only use for easy runs, around 250km so far. It's also £135, which isn't cheap or expensive, so relatively relaxed. Happy running 👍🏽
I weigh 72kg with 180 miles on mine and notice similar to Andy regarding bounce back
Interesting to hear… when I posted this on Instagram I had a flood of messages saying they felt the same so I’m pretty sure it’s not just me who’s experiencing this
You are right, I am heavier and so I’ll wear shoes down differently to others for sure! But I don’t think I’m the only one! The key though is they’re still nice and soft and enjoyable, just minimal rebound left… and for 135 quid I’d say they’re still good value… as long as they keep staying soft!
It's all down to perspective. As a 90kg runner I look at Andy as a lightweight runner. Any issue he has I will get it much worse.
No surprise my "shoe of the year ad2024" award went to...
Novablast v1 (still in use)
& Glideride v1 (rip)
And I have to say, I disliked the Novablast when new. Then... and up to this day it's a favorite do-it-all workout shoe.
Now I think I'll keep that pair, to compare it with v5, when it gets older.
I suspected the v5 "foam was made soft to sell the shoe well"
...but not to last long in the happy mode!
Btw. NB1 still are the best NB 😊
Thank you for the review
Thanks buddy, appreciate it!
As a 6ft 5, 97kg runner, I think they've already started losing bounce at 100km. As you say, still good for easy and long runs but it took 500km-600km for the same feeling in the Novablast 3's. Still miles better than the Superblast for me though, which were rubbish from the outset.
Oh gosh that is early, sorry to hear that! We are very similar height and weight...
I love the Superblast! I have 3 OG pairs and one pair of SB2 (didn’t buy any at full price tho and 2 are second hand). Basically the only shoes I run in apart from my trail shoes
Just had to retire my novablast4 at around 450km as they felt done
Just started running in mine and am really enjoying it. Hopefully I will get a better experience long term.
I'm sure you will love them!
Good to know when I’m just about to buy a pair
I still recommend… the softness is still there, just minimal rebound / bounce…. I think they’ll keep going for a while as they are
@ yeah I’ll still be getting a pair seems as I’ve had all the other versions.
Hmmm...might be worth waiting for the Adidas Evo SL to drop then.
Was trying to decide between the two for my next daily trainer, likely EVO SL too now.
I am also waiting for this...
@@Anatoly_Tsvetkov - interesting, good to know. Sounding like the SuperBlast are good value if you can get them? Expensive but good durability?
@@suranperera4620 yeah, they are durable, at least the first version was because the foam itself is firmer I believe. I don't have superblast 2 because they are hard to get in my country 🥲, I think I will buy puma magmax, heard that they are good and durable too.
Morning all. !!! Sound mind, sound body!!!. Keep the good work, Andy. Like from 🇪🇸 Spain. Have a great day.
Darn... I was going to order these but being a 102kg runner I feel like my heavier frame wouldn't even get to 200 miles in these.
They’ll keep going and going as all novablast do, but the bounce will go… the softness is still good though
You can't make something softer and expect the same sort of durability
🤷♂️
I have 400 miles in my version 3 and it still feels pretty good. However, it doesn’t have the bounce that it once had, but I still feel like there is about 200 miles left in the shoes.
190 lbs, 6’2”, midfoot, sub-20 5k. Novablast 4 died at 125 miles. Still using them 150 in but looking for something to replace it soon. I use my Superblast 2 for some workouts but might transition it to my everyday. Would love to know a daily that holds up for heavier runners similar to how the 4’s were 0 to 100 miles.
Honestly it might be worth considering the new saucony ride 18, or the brooks hyperion max / even the max 2.... the brooks foams are firmer but hold up well
@@TheFODRunner your 400 mile review on the Mach 6 might be what I needed to see. Local running store just discounted them down to $109 US
Darn. I've only used the novablast 1. Went through about 5 pairs. I'm too afraid to try the others. I might try to get an older saucony speed on discount. Such a versatile shoe that lasts a long time with good traction.
I felt the Novablast 3 started to lose its pep at only 100 miles. Haven't trusted a Novablast to last since then.
@ I gotcha. Maybe I’ll try it once it gets warm and it’ll start as a daily trainer, become a recovery shoe later on.
yeah, after running 2 times in these i knew they felt slightly different compared to the 4. next shoe i buy will be another 4 for sure.
I loved the V5 for the first few runs, but I’d say around 50 in it lost some of its magic. It is still my go to easy day shoe, as it’s comfortable and one of the few shoes I’ve got I could do 12+ miles in without foot issues.
Do you have similar experiences with the noosa?
No, but then the noosa only got to 100 miles for me before I had other shoes in the rotation take its place
Noosa Tri 16 for me was brilliant... didnt get past 100 to test for durability as I was prioritising other shoes but they were a great 100 miles!
Now a shoe is like a pair of socks.
always keeping it real👌
Bad to hear but hopefully it will be a different experience for me. I remember ppl said their Rebel v4 felt dead after 300km but I ran 900km in mine and they felt great.
Will they release a TR version? I had 1400 miles on the 3 TR and I still drag them out now and again. Loved everything about them.
I would hope so, the TR versions are always very popular! But I’ve not heard any news on that yet
@@TheFODRunnerI've been holding out for a pair of TRs but I've been sneaking a look at the superblast
That trampoline which protrudes on outside Makes for a bit of instability I found
I just hit 510k (315 miles) on NB 4 and I think they are good until I hit 600km.
Shame really... 1 and 2 never lost anything, since the 3 things deteriorate quickly! Honestly though, still super soft and comfy!
@TheFODRunner agreed, they have transitioned to a great everyday walking shoe for me.
I have nearly 1100km in my V2s. The upper is in bits and the outsole is nearly gone were I strike but midsole is still working great.
Amazing durability!
Maybe it’s time to check out new Hoka cielo x2 looking like a banger
I have about 60k on my NB5s. On wet roads I have found the outsole grip very poor, verging on dangerous. So much so that I'll only take them out when it's dry.
Hopefully the drier months in the summer will see them get more use!
Rarely make it past 300 miles in any shoe these days and having a 3 shoe rotation keeps the mileage down on all of them so they all feel great for longer if that makes sense 🤷🏼♂️🤣
I am finding similar... if something gets over 300 its a massive plus!
@@TheFODRunner my Novablast 5 arrived today. Had trouble finding a size 10 anywhere! First step in feel great! Looking forward to giving a test over the weekend. Thanks
After 300 km my Novablast 4 feel dead aswell, its soft but no energy return at all
I got no more than in the 150 miles in Reb 4 but soft foams usually do that in some form before they bottom out .
That said love the shoes just replaced them with the same shoe just gunna be expensive getting new ones every two months
Also Hitting rocks in these beats them down fast noticed a huge difference adding some light trails and gravel. You can see he is doing it here in the as well.
If a daily aint durable. Its a dud.
Everybody must remember that you are not an average Runner. Material used most probably was not optimized for your specific needs. Thanks for review
At 6ft 6in and nearly 90kg I can confirm I am definitely not an average runner haha
Could it be because the foam is recycled that it loses bounce? Seem to recall that some of the midsole is made from recycled shyt. Great video Andy
Could be! The 4 midsole wasn’t great for me and I know that was even more ECO I believe? Not sure how much is recycled in this one…
Another 300 miles shoe. Not looking at you NB rebel 👀
Wahat about this novablast 5 vs velocity 2/3 which better bro???
I'd still go with the novablast to be honest... found the velocity a solid shoe but a bit boring
@TheFODRunner but the novablast no bounce after 20 miles your test
@ I didn’t find the velocity had much either, that was more “softer” than “bouncier”… the novablast had softness and bounce until around 150/160 miles and now it’s just soft… and I’d still chose the novablast soft over the puma soft
@@TheFODRunner what about hoka mach 6 vs novablast 5 coz in my town there the big discount for all them 🙏
@ oh the Mach 6 is great and I got 400 miles out of those! Tough choice, probably now I’d choose the Mach!
I want the Novablast 2 back
that is disapointing news. I will keep the Novablast 5 on my wishlist and wait how he does at mile 300, before i decide to buy or to pass
Well worth keeping on there Thomas, still lovely and soft, just lost some bounce sadly
Novablast 2 is a good one. Mine is at around 450k and its midsole still has more bounce than my Novablast 3 TR which is at around 60k.
The 2 are brilliant, along with the 1!
Oh no🤦🏻♂️ just went out for a first run in mine yesterday. Durability is something thats quite important to me
YMMV, quite literally.
Don’t worry, they’re still really good… just can’t seem to find that bounce anymore, which is sad!
Absolutely 👍 it’s depends on the type of runner too, I’m low cadence and probably a “harder thudding footstrike” so I’ll perhaps wear them down moreso than someone else
@@TheFODRunner great review!
@ that’s an excellent point too. I’m super high cadence. Always been, even when I started. Perhaps that’s why I tend to be easier on shoes, despite my weight.
I think sometimes with these softer shoes how tired and tight your feet are makes a huge difference to the underfoot feeling.
That can definitely be a factor
I'd still be buying Nike Invincible Run V2 if they were available, if its a great shoe, just bring out an updated upper or new colours dont break that magic.
Not the point of the video but I feel like the vaporfly 3 are easily the best version of that shoe haha. Guess just goes to show everyone has different experiences!
Same here
I've had a lot of shoes over the years and one model's cushion seems to hold up the longest......adidas ultraboosts.
so its nimbus blast?
Haha thats a good description
i can confirm: no more bounce at all after 300km, and also less cushioning…. but i heve never flound a more lasting bounce
That’s not good!
It bottomed out for me on long runs. I weigh 180lb for context. Overhyped shoe for me.
I’m up to 266km and haven’t noticed anything yet. Here’s hoping I don’t 🤞🏼
Wonderful! Fingers crossed!
Andy! Don't you clean your shoes😂
No, sorry haha!
Haha
Every novablast after 200 km loose bouncing 😅
I kept commenting this in every review how the NB4 is waaaay better. The 5 is ridiculous
Agreed
The heel of the shoe feels 5mm to tall for me, almost digging into my achilles.
We’re at #5? I still on #2. 😂
CONCLUSION: la durabilidad dependera de 1. peso del corredor. 2. Kilometros diarios. 3. Defectos del corredor al correr... Asi que no se pongan exigentes, ja ja es como comparar a un coche de cochera a otro que lo traen de taxi.
where is my damn (longer) comment?
Why does RUclips randomly delete comments, or, never even show them after you send them?
I am so fking pissed!
Give me a short summary of your long comment…
Another 200 mile shoe, almost feels like these engineered foams are made to last.
Everything is made disposable these days sadly
Sometimes I think that some charges of shoes are just rubbish. I had a pair of novablast 4 and they were just dead. As if you run on a thick piece of carton.
(I got a lot of shoes, run a lot, can compare to other shoes).
They were just absolutely not was everybody says they are …
It's a novablast, it's what they do
