Edgemont will always be home! I grew up on Glenside Drive, which is the same street the firehouse is on, the name just changes when you cross Locust Lane. I attended many chicken dinners during the summer, dances, wedding receptions at the Firehouse. At Christmas time, Santa would come down the street on top of a fire truck and toss paper bags full of candy and oranges to all the kids lining the street. A great place to grow up. For years it was said the firehouse wasn't getting the funding necessary to maintain. I'm really sorry it's gone.
Part of the reason some stations close is becuase officers get in and never leave. There should be a requiremnt of a Chief on doing a two time term and then taking a break. It is becomming a monooply for some departments. Some younger ones go to get certified and do trainingg. But never get to the top becuase some old timers monopolize the positions and favoritism happens. Most all Vol.. companies do that. No matter what race is in the Departments. Change of Command is never taken into considerations. it should be.
Nailed it also don't help some of the neighboring company not nameing any are power hungry for run area other company close have also gone belly up because of said fire company...
