While I do love the Assassin's Creed series, I do have to agree with the whole "tracing history through DNA" because you don't get that person's DNA until after they give up their seed, so how the fuck did you know anything about Ezio and Altair in their very old ages, unless they decided to pass on their seed at their passing moments
We actually see Ezio's children in a post revaluations mini film and you only see young Altair exept when Ezio uses some weird magic thing that isn't an animus and sees through time in a weird way that's never explained. But when using the Animus you only see there lives up until they have kids.
August-Phoenix Well, Ezio only had kids after the end of revelations. that's kinda the point of the game because at the end he conciously ends that chapter of his life. of course, revelations fucked the hole thing up anyhow, when you played a methusalem Altair and went into a dark chamber to die. nobody knows how the genetic information of all his life after his sons were born left that chamber. ^^
I doubt they take suggestions for the series, but if I may make one anyway; Spider-Man 2. But in the vein of making fun games boring, as with Just Cause 2, you're not allowed to web swing.
As I recall, assassin's creed revelations had an arc where ezio realizes all his years of being devoted to a cause have deprived him of a normal family life. There's a few moments in the game where he calls attention to the fact that he's getting on in years, putting his days as a playboy behind him. At least that's what I remember.

It's fucking absurd. People actually balk at the idea of playing as a female character who ends up kissing a male character...what, you can't identify with the notion of physical displays of affection? You can't identify with a woman on a basic human level? They have feelings, they love, they get scared, they grieve death etc...it's really not that hard to identify with anyone. I can't imagine being so closed off as to not see the opposite sex, or people with different racial backgrounds and sexual orientations as human beings...people who admit that sort of attitude don't realise just how fucked up they are in the head IMO.

I think Gabe is wrong re "We come up with brilliant software and it gets ruined because we run it on human hardware." It goes wrong at design time at least as often as it goes wrong at run time.
The "future plot" (modern day) in ac is what ties the games together and honestly I wouldn't mind if they ditched the historical plot to go down the more interesting modern day line
It would still be since it would still stick to the same mechanics plot and creed, it would just be more focused on stealth and all since getting spotted would actually screw you as modern tech means you'd be fucked if someone saw ya. It's the least stealth reliant stealth series ever which is pretty stupid. Also how is black flag able to be considered more of an AC game than a game where you play as an actual assassin in a modern timeline? Black flag is a freaking pirate game not an assassin one.
My favorite thing about the "homophobes think you can be talked into being gay" argument is the efforts to respond to it always kinda miss the what I think is a valid point: even if you COULD be coerced into becoming attracted to the same gender... so what? Like, it STARTS from the position of 'gay is bad' without any effort to elaborate or explain how and why. It's just saying 'it might turn them gay, and that's bad' but WHY is it bad? Why would being turned gay be a bad thing? It's a very simple flaw in the logic that I think everyone overlooks because they jump right to 'sexuality is locked in at birth'.
well, it's bad because it's either not natural or their god hates it or the human race is in danger of going extinct for all the gays not making babies. having said that: I don't think people overlook it because they jump right to "sexuality is locked at birth" but because it's a stance you cannot take seriously to beginn with. how do you even argue with someone with these views? because, and that is the important thing, they don't know either. the thing about it being unatural or god being against it is just a tautology they have ingrained in their brains. they grew up with it and that is that. and then of course we all are pretty much the same, so in the same way that being gay is bad is a view that is sooooo normal to them that they cannot even understand why other people might think otherwise, the view that being gay is not bad is sooooo normal to us that we kinda have a problem understanding why some fucktwats have these problems with it. Like, I can understand it in a factual way (like in the first paragraph) but I lack the ability to really grasp it.
So here we are and got to see how fledged out all those villains and oscorp got to be in The amazing Spider-Man 3 so take that Yahtzee.... oh wait..... you win again
I think you should conduct an experiment as to whether you can throw away money using the 'throw money' action faster than you get it. I think there are some important things about the framing of the future, but the problem was that up until AC3 the series was in a perpetual "we're not making another sequel" loop. So at the last minute they always had to keep refitting things so you could continue. But the framing device of the present day acts as the lens for the audience to observe the world. Plus, it lends context to things like the UI and a lot of other stuff, basically it's the all purpose insulation for any game mechanics that break the integrity of the world- one key thing that people actually miss is that the animus doesn't actually provide factual stimuli to the person using it (i.e. the person using the animus doesn't actually see what their ancestor saw). What the animus does is that it creates a semi-believable world from a set of resources and feed the somewhat limited information from the genetic memory to the user to try and recreate the actual historical events in the animus's interpretation. The animus reads off how synchronous the user's experience is to that of their ancestor and provides information or performs actions accordingly.
Listening to Yahtzee explain it made me realize the backdrop of Assassin's Creed is basically Star Wars: Two (and only two) ideologically opposing factions fighting over dominance. One is good and one is evil mainly because we say so. Please refrain from pointing out how it's an archetypical myth structure and bringing up Joseph Campbell.
One reason I don't care for Achievements and Trophies is that I believe if a game wants to encourage you to do something, there should be a reward for it in-game, like the Skill Points in Ratchet and Clank. My favorite Achievements are for Psychonauts. You get them by listening to hidden conversations, which are bits of good writing that most people wouldn't know even existed unless the Achievements drew attention to them. Also I like it in the ending of Double Dragon Neon when Skullmageddon sings "Here's a medal for your victory" right as the Achievement message pops up.
When Yatzhee nonchalantly said "They killed her dog"my first thought was if somebody killed my dog then are both going down and are either going to be killed or spend the rest of there lives wishing they were that dog.
Drag me to hell!!! It's my favorite movie ever (of that particular genre)! Like every scene is crucial for the plot. And I love how he sticks to the main motive throughout the film. :)
Was anyone else really surprised to find out the "future" bits of Assassin's Creed are supposed to take place in present day? Seriously, I played through 1 & 2, Brotherhood and Revelations without realizing that it was supposed to be present day and not some time into the future. I guess I'm just really behind and everyone except me is using bluetooth and super-advanced virtual reality.
Most conspiracy buffs tend to believe that whatever technology we have, our governments and tiny groups of individuals has higher levels of it. In Assassin's Creed series, Abstergo made the Animus technology available to the public by AC3. So yeah, you could cop out and use the ever-so-vague "In the not too distant future" card....
"People should be more egotistical" - Gabriel Morton 2014 I think the term your looking for is pride. People SHOULD have more pride. Someone who is egotistical is overly prideful.
I agree with gabe about collectathons: I was replaying Arkham Asylum last week and set a goal to collect everything. The most aggravating shit to collect were the trophies and question mark pictures
I heard once that Black Flag would have been a much better game if it stripped the assassins creed part out and just make it a pirate game. Keep the ships, the combat but take the stuff that was shoehorned in to make it an assassins game and it would improve quite a bit. Also put more songs for the crew to sing in
The crossbow only ruins the fun challenge if you let it. I barely used the arrow storm feature in revelations(the only one I've played) because it made me feel cheap. I did use the crossbow a little more but soon it got replaced by sneaking up behind the guards and trying to kill them all with the hidden blade before they noticed me. One of my favorite thing to do was poison dart one guy then sneak up behind the others assassinate 2 more and then finishing off the last one with whatever regular weapon I had on me
According to Game Theory it will be possible to do something similar to travel to the past virtually using recorded memories, but it won't happen soon and only possible with memories that were recorded, so future people will be able to only look into memories of near future people.
Unbreakable with Bruce Willis was a great example of an unfulfilled cliffhanger. There was, I believe, an entire trilogy planned, but it just couldn't drum up enough interest because it wasn't based off of an existing superhero franchise. Still wish there had been more.

They should play black flag, just on ship, no combat, just sailing at slowest speed for an hour
I actually really enjoy simply running around in assassin's creed, while listening to a podcast.
It's an archetypcial Joseph Campmyth structure and you should read some myth bells.
Yeah, Ratchet and Clank is brilliant for rewarding you for optional shit. Every game needs an equivalent of the insomniac museum.
When Yatzhee nonchalantly said "They killed her dog"my first thought was if somebody killed my dog then are both going down and are either going to be killed or spend the rest of there lives wishing they were that dog.
The most fun I had in the game was hurling the two-handed weapons at guards and sending them flying off rooftops.
Drag me to hell!!! It's my favorite movie ever (of that particular genre)! Like every scene is crucial for the plot.
And I love how he sticks to the main motive throughout the film. :)

Yahtzee, you and Gabriel should play Turok: Dinosaur Hunter next. It's abadonware now!
Thats the best technical difficulties screen I have ever seen.
"People should be more egotistical" - Gabriel Morton 2014
I think the term your looking for is pride. People SHOULD have more pride. Someone who is egotistical is overly prideful.
I agree with gabe about collectathons: I was replaying Arkham Asylum last week and set a goal to collect everything. The most aggravating shit to collect were the trophies and question mark pictures
what the fuck happened to assassin's creed? assassin's creed 2 sucked me dry. it tickled my heart. it licked my ears.
now its ...meh.
+ragenFOX Yearly release stagnation
+ragenFOX They know it's a cash cow now, and are going to pump it dry cause people will buy it every year
+ragenFOX IV's ships were top tier, loved it.
I heard once that Black Flag would have been a much better game if it stripped the assassins creed part out and just make it a pirate game. Keep the ships, the combat but take the stuff that was shoehorned in to make it an assassins game and it would improve quite a bit. Also put more songs for the crew to sing in
"In the grim darkness of the Renaissance, there is only chests" Nice Warhammer 40K reference.
One of my favorite thing to do was poison dart one guy then sneak up behind the others assassinate 2 more and then finishing off the last one with whatever regular weapon I had on me
Jumping off of aqueducts with a parachute: Fine
Going over two miles an hour on a horse: The guards aren't having that
XD that ending I was not expecting
That was a very unexpected Buffalo Bill at the end.... uhhh
Anyone else hoping for Lets Drown Out: Dark Souls 2?
Aaah Brotherhood. The game my exgirlfriend gifted me for christmas, and 100% completed herself during the holidays while I got to watch. It still sits on my shelf, the only game I own that I haven't played a minute of. Is it wrong that I still love her?
For those wondering, Alum is a mineral used for dying clothes, found mostly in Anatolia but also in Italy.
I laughed my ass off at the technical difficulties picture
I was alright with the Riddler riddles and statues in Arkham Asylum/City, but in a game like this: fuck it.
Maybe that's due to fact Batman gets around easily compared to Ezio...Not a lot of 500-mile treks to a location on the other side of town.
I'm an egomaniac too. I can't remember the last game I played where I couldn't create a character that looks like me.
And hopefully we will all meet again in Space Balls 2 the quest for more MONEY!
So I keep watching the technical difficulties screen to figure out the music.
God damn what is that from.
I really liked Gabriel's opinion on being egotistical and not putting yourself under a title. That's the way I think.
I've heard it's the best way to explore your potential
since i wasnt paying attention, somehow the sudden music change when the technical difficulties occurred scared the shit out of me XD
