So sad man, I knew about Michael manring but didn't know about this guy so checking out there stuff now, just so tragic though man Michaels such a humble decent guy cant even imagine what must be like losing your best friend so young ya know.
that was the sickest performance I have ever seen of michael hedges and michael manring. Whenever someone asks me who my favorite guitarists are, I dont say Jimi Hendrix or Flea or Carlos Santana; I say MICHAEL HEDGES AND MICHAEL MANRING!!! I wish I could have seen Michael before he passed but at least we still have Michael Manring here to rock our world still. Long live the music of the Michaels!
1:13 begins to make my heart sing......1:59 air born.... I luv bass and this is wowing me to the core of my being. Thanks to you musical gem Master Musicians. Most glorious to my soul. It reflects within my heart toooo, try being age 70 and being reminded you are next to kick the bucket. : -))) Must replay this again. What a duo. Peace.
Enjoyed seeing this after so many years -- when it was on VHS. I wish Ben Stewart Helm or someone else would post the dates and location of this stage recording and the interview.
I was lucky enough to see them together outside at the Sand Harbor theater in South lake Tahoe. An unforgettable experience that absolutely blew me away
Holy Shit!!!! This show was at the Sand Harbor Amphitheater on the north(east) shore of Lake Tahoe.....they usually have the Shakespeare Festival there, but I always thought it was a great place for concerts......
YOUR MUSIC is... FANTASTIC ! Dear Michael i love your music, guitar or Flute Are fantastic, ETERNAL FOREVER !!!! Dear Friend come with me, your spirit in the bohindra's music. THANKS
Michael H called this the "chucka chucka" approach to guitar playing. Also the "deep tissue gladiator guitar." Michael M, incidentally, is just as brilliant today as back then, except he now also plays the hyperbass, an instrument Michael H would doubtless have greatly appreciated.
Replying to an ancient comment here, but a fun fact is that the Hyperbass is right there on the stage. It can be seen at the beginning of the video. It was built in the early 90's so Hedges would definitely have seen it.

@samuelstapleslewis i am guessing the date was 95? not sure about the location either but i do know that you can see lake tahoe in the background which leads me to believe that it is somewhere in california. sorry i don't know all the exact details. but i hope what little i know helps.
I met this guy . He was giving guitar lessons to single young girls and doing quite well. But are you really a great guitar player if no one likes what your playing ? I have always wrestled with that thought when thinking back about him .
Look at like Buckethead, hes objectively a great player, many people like what hes playing to.....and by many people I mean .04 percent of the population of America alone lol, but is that not still alot? more people listen to lady gaggles or cardi B whatever but thats not the same thing obviously and well whod you rather be as a guitar player? obviously this dude Hedges had a fair amount of fans and he could certainly play guitar very well, I dont know about great but very good at the very least, and his friend/manring here is the definition fo very great as well as he showed here and especially since ya know.
what a dinamic duo! Both energetic and impressive! I'm glad to see Manring still playing with fingerstyle guitarists.
One of the best musical pairings ever.

Lake Tahoe, CA
such a beautiful wandering minstrel was he...
I love how manring enters it
What I would give to have seen that live. Words fail me.
I saw it live in 1995. It was utterly remarkable. The little rhythmic trick he does with his right hand was a stunning thing visually.
I was lucky enough to see them together outside at the Sand Harbor theater in South lake Tahoe. An unforgettable experience that absolutely blew me away
Con Manring al bajo... Que te puedes esperar! Algo genial!
Yes !

Yup.
Kinda sad to hear him talking about his life being half over at 40...
oh yeah!
Is Manring using an E-Bow?
epic!
If you really break it down it's the same chord progression that Dave Matthews uses in Warehouse with Tim Reynolds
I met this guy . He was giving guitar lessons to single young girls and doing quite well. But are you really a great guitar player if no one likes what your playing ? I have always wrestled with that thought when thinking back about him .
Sure Popularity and great playing are not always the same thing whatsoever ya know.

Classic moron comment. You don’t get it and you never will. What a waste lol.
Manring playing actual bass lines... Sounds weird.
Abdias xuxetumare si estas leyendo esto debes saber que te quiero (no homo)
There's something very 'jacoish' about michael
That's because Jaco personally taught him bass and was a great influence in general.
not rly man check out his Windham hill stuff.
then he died. how strange
Hey man, put better titles and tags so more people can experence this VHS!
