For anyone who's curious, the name of the drama is "The Virtuous Queen of Han". It's based on how Wei Zifu (a.k.a. Empress Xiaowusi) rose from her humble beginnings as a performer to become one of the longest reigning Empresses in Chinese history.

@@StephenB-iy7pr the telling off by the Emperor "was so good 🔥" I felt sorry for them in the moment of being told off not for the evil they did. He didn't hold back, finally justice. They came in so proud of themselves by the end they were on the floor begging for mercy. 明白了吗？
It's very difficult to do direct translation from Chinese to English, so while it was confusing and a little frustrating at times, I am grateful that someone gave it a shot. My daughter translated a chimese book to English and there were times she would have to think for days trying to figure what a particular phrase or saying could mean in English. So please be forgiving in this area, thanks, have a great day.

I mean, the metaphors are somewhat easy to understand like at 19:43, when the Emperor and Zifu are talking about how his aunt is drowning in her own poison -- I literally walked away from this bit with the idiom; don't bite the hand that feeds you. However, in the beginning, when he is reprimanding Princess Guantao and Empress Chen, the subs mentioned someone named Reggie when I think they meant to be talking about Wei Qing, and how he was kidnapped and almost killed on Guantao's order. It isn't the fact that people find the metaphors and idioms used difficult to understand it's the fact that the people who subbed this did a fairly poor job, or this is a patch that doesn't really understand how to read scripts.
Eh, I believe that people like Chen Jiao don't really learn properly if they still have someone to enable their stupidity. She would have been better off ignoring her mother and just loving her husband and being happy for him. Jiao'er is a villain, yes, but she's also one of the most understanding of villains. Wei Zifu comes in, stealing the emperor's love and affection. She reacted like any genuine woman who loved her man but ... She took it too far. She got involved in witchcraft which was a death sentence, and she got the emperor addicted to opium. Like ... I understand why he's angry. I would be too! This woman and her mother tried to kill someone I loved, tried to hurt her by having her brother killed (didn't succeed), and then proceeded to use drugs and witchcraft on me! Neither one can be forgiven really, not completely.

if you post a drama, at least get the translations correct, otherwise, it’s just word salad…
