Seems that way. I won't pretend I'm some kind of expert on how FP2's ranking system works, I just found a method that works for me and is consistent, but it seems at a minimum, you need a gem bonus of at least 175% to get it.
You get an S-rank via not taking any damage, and apparently the Rainbow S-Rank is that plus equipping the One-Hit Brave Stone and another Brave Stone. Don't know about the 175% criteria, haven't tested that yet. Shield hits don't count as damage from what I remember. And yeah, that boss fight counts too, as it's technically a stage. I've gotten used to the boss fight by now though, so likely won't be a big deal in the long run. Plus there's other boss fights and stages that worry me: the jungle level where you control the BFF-2000, Hundred Drillion's fight, pretty much anything in the endgame...
@@noizihonni8191 That isn't how S-Ranks work. S-Ranks are achieved by having a large enough score boost (75-80%) and not dying. You can take all the damage you want so long as you don't die. A rainbow S-Rank however can only be achieved with a 175% boost, which are effectively no-hit runs until you consider potions that allow you to increase the number of shields you get per shield crystal. I think that's kinda' cheesy, so I don't use the potions for literally anything. Though any shields IN the stage without a boost are totally fine, that's just resource management at that point. But yes, shield hits aren't damage. The thing to be mindful about with shields is their various immunities. If you have a stage where most threats are fire, you aren't gonna' want a different shield, you just want one that makes you immune to fire. Meanwhile, a wood shield is less useful since you can't absorb petals - so it's just two time damage prevention.
@@kcdodger Little addition. Btw, if you managed to clear stage without taking damage, you get higher rank. I've just accidentally cleared Zulon Jungle with Elemental Burst/Time Limit equipped with S rank, even so I was supposed to get A rank instead. And as I guessed, it's because I didn't get any damage (thanks for shields). And combination of Shield Charms with OKOH also gives you S rank. Can be useful on the stages with big number of one-elemental hazards.
