    One thing I did forget to mention is the programming cable and software, there are two versions of the software, download both and see which one works with your radio's firmware. If you do buy this radio and have trouble finding the downloads just let me know in the comments as you need both the driver for the cable and the software for the radio and I have both for download. Programming is super easy, and very intuitive once you get the right software, its also fairly easy to program this radio manually unlike most of the other radios from China. Price is 122.00 and you can buy it here amzn.to/2olH15Q

      What app do you use to program this one? CHiRP?

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  6 лет назад +1

      Chirp wont work with this one, which stinks, but it has its own software you can download that works almost exactly like CHiRP. Program can be found almost anywhere, its called AT_778UV_Setup_1.00.exe

      Cool thanks, So you don't have to hunt around for the software, I put them on one of my web servers. Download it here www.exedor.net/radio/ The CDM21228_Setup.exe is the driver for the USB cable and the file AT_778UV_Setup_1.00.exe is the programming software. if you have any questions let me know! Oh and dont forget the programming cable, Make sure it either comes with it or you order it so it makes it easy.

    I set up a TYT-TH-9800 Plus for the local volunteer fire brigade as their central base and three mobiles. They got five of them for £150 each. I think for one it was £165. They have had no problems from them and they have a huge range of frequencies. They are not as easy on the eye as the transceiver on the video. But the remotely mountable face made it more convenient for the volunteer fire brigade.

    Joseph David - I was having the same problem programming it manually - Once on the desired frequency in FBI on your main with correct offset etc. - push and hold p2 while it is on vm to enter the channel - the channel number will flash - choose the desired channel to save on with the knob - once on the desired channel push and hold the p2 key again and it should be saved -

    This radio is available now (July 2021) from various sources as: Anytone AT-778UV, Retevis RT-95, CRT Micron UV and Midland DBR2500.
    Some arrive "Unlocked" for the North American Band plan; some do not. There are a few YT videos describing how to handle that.
    I think all of these sources offer the Owner's Manual and the Programming Software as a free download now. There is now a Ver. 2 and a Ver. 3 and you need to know if yours is the "RDW" or the "VOX" version.
    CHIRP works very now IF (and only IF) you select the correct version for your particular radio.

    🗣 Does this radio come unlocked and how does it compare with the diminutive *TYT TH-8600* radio? I want a base radio that I can carry in my go-bag (or bugout bag). The 8600 is IP67-rated and is in the same price range. So I've narrowed down my choices to these two. Which do you guys recommend? Both are 25W-ish, dual band transceivers. And I love 💕 both. Both can be grabbed and gone, too. Any ideas?

      Check around for a local ham club, they usually meet in person once a month, and nightly or weekly on the air. Check for a house with big antennas, they will tell you where the meetings are held.

      Most police departments use a trunking encrypted radio system, not allowing citizens to listen anymore. You might be able to listen to your local fire and ambulance right from your smart phone. Choose an app for police/scanning. There are several.

    Does anyone know if you can use a different speaker setup? What i mean here is, I'd like to mount this in the dash of my truck. If I do that then that would obviously affect the speaker so I think I'd need something like an auxiliary speaker and I asking if that is possible to do with this radio. Also if I mount that in the dash below the regular car radio, will there be interference issues?

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  5 лет назад

      Not on this radio it only covers VHF and UHF, you are looking for a decent shortwave radio that has upper and lower sideband so you can listen to not only AM but ham and other users on shortwave as well. Check on amazon, they have some amazing units, you can simply search for "Shortwave SSB" and you will find a decent radio to listen to shortwave. A whole lot cheaper too!

      Yeah it transmits from VHF:136-174MHz UHF:400-480MHz. I was planning on doing a video in a week or so about programming it manually, Its actually a lot simpler than most of the radios coming out of china, so its not super hard. Thanks for watching!

      I just got one of these radios, and I'm having a problem with programming it. I've figured out the menus and such, and believe I've programmed a couple of channels correctly, but I can't get to them. When I short press the V/M key (to switch to channel mode), I get a message saying "ERROR" and the radio will only function in VFO mode. I can't figure out a way to access any of the channels I've programmed into the radio. I haven't yet purchased a programming cable, but probably will soon. Any thoughts?

    Do any of these CHICOM radio companies make affordable HF rigs?

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  6 лет назад +3

      Yes and no, they make them but they are not that much cheaper than your regular run of the mill decent baseline HF rig made by any of the bigger makers. Check out the X1M Rig, Then there is the Xiegu X-108G QRP Transceiver, its a pretty decent radio but still pricey for a QRP rig. There are some SDR rigs as well but they are also QRP radios too. They are all in the 400 to 500 dollar range, but I think as time passes, we will see more affordable radios for HF coming out of China. If the X1M was cheaper I would have got one and done a review on it on the channel

The good part is this rdio is easy enough to program without software right from the front panel

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  6 лет назад

      Ok the version of the software you want is the very first version its 1.0.0 THAT one will work with your radio. As for the password, you need to connect the software to the radio, then under Function Setup in the window on the side, click that and a new window will pop up, on the right hand side of that window is a checkbox that will say "Power on password" uncheck that box and you should be good to go. As of now, it is set to get a password but you did not assign one so it will be like that until you uncheck the box and send over the new settings to the radio. Just in case, I have heard of many people saying the default password is 123456 give that a try too.

      Well, I totally forgot where I downloaded them from, but I did save them lol so I put them on one of my web servers. Download it here www.exedor.net/radio/ The CDM21228_Setup.exe is the driver for the USB cable and the file AT_778UV_Setup_1.00.exe if I remember right is the programming software. Took me forever to track the right cable driver down.. but these should get you started up. Let me know !

      Yes, however technically that isnt legal because its not type accepted by the FCC for GMRS use and could transmit out of the power ranges for GMRS, however if you follow the rules and have a GMRS license, your chances of getting in trouble with it are very slim. Just be careful with it.
