  • Block printing is an ancient art and craft. In this video I give you an introduction on woodblock printing. A few basic tools and techniques you need, to get started.

    I learned it in art school, but haven't touched my carving tools in ages. I agree that it's something magical, sometimes I should return to it.

    This is a very good simple way to get into woodblock carving. I’ve watched many of master carver David Bull’s videos as well. Very tedious and time consuming, yet rewarding.

    Nice project and really interesting. Why not using a second clean roller to press the paper. I suppose you'll have less effort to deal with.

      It may work but I am not sure if it does. Some people use a metal spoon for that job!

    Πολύ όμορφο το αποτέλεσμα! Δε λέω μάστορα, έχει μεγάλη αξία ο παραδοσιακός τρόπος, αλλά το σκάλισμα θα ήταν πιο εύκολο με κάποιο πολύστροφο εργαλειάκι τύπου ντρέμελ. Συνέχισε με αμείωτο μεράκι και αγάπη για αυτό που κάνεις!!

    If you draw black-on-black, how could you see what to cut out?
    And normally peop[le creating an image first on some paper and then transfer it to the woodblock. In your case, the woodblock is black, so how to transfer the image to the black surface?

      @@ScrapwoodCity Drawing (or transferring) a black trail onto a black surface will certainly require a lot of stupid practice.

    Υπάρχει ποτέ περίπτωση να μας μάθεις πώς να χτίζουμε και να κόβουμε σώματα από κιθάρες από ξύλο που έχουμε? (Π.χ. SG, telecaster, explorer, flying v).

    you have to wet your paper in water at least half an hour before printing. Better still if you leave it soak overnight and later remove excess water with either blotting paper or a piece of clean cloth.

    Why keep it in the carving jig when you make prints?

      I use the jig so I can align the paper with the inked surface. Not super necessary, I just do it on certain occasions.
