  • What is Buster Posey doing? After Signing Willy Adames and Justin Verlander, The Giants have done NOTHING. They just traded Taylor Rodgers to The Reds plus an additional 6 million for a no name prospect and now have roughly 26 million left to spend if they want to stay under the CBT. Will they make a splash trade for Luis Robert? Or will they sign slugger Pete Alonso? THEY NEED TO! Be sure to like and subscribe, as well as comment down below and turn on the notification bell.

    It is somewhat presumptuous but I have to believe if they offered him 4 years 100M with opt outs he would jump at it. Remember the Giants have signed several of Scott Boras clients. If the $ & terms are right I’m 99.9% certain Pete and Boras accept. Too many Boras clients have signed, including Chapman, Adames, Correa, Snell, Rodon & more. Pete hits very well in Oracle too, but you could be right as well & he’s not interested, but I heard Buster is dead set against opt outs from former GM Jim Bowden.

      You may be correct ….however I’d say you would have to give Alonso opt outs and front load the contract …..it won’t be comfortable for a front office to do that ….but if you want a player and need him …..you have to pony up, give him something no one else will …..
      In all honesty I really think he will go back to the Mets ….they also do actually need him …..to provide with Vientos at least some of the cover Judge and Stanton did….behind Soto otherwise imho Soto will get walked A LOT lol

    The chance to merge into the rebuild lane has passed. They need to turn their indicator on and merge into the contend lane, spend some money, make a trade (that's actually an acquisition not a dump) and get closer to a quality on-field product.

    The giants desperately need to make a risky enough move like Robert Jr. and I won't be disappointed if it doesn't work out because they actually went all in and took RISKS! Even Seiya Suzuki would be good too and probably won't need to give as much up for him. I've heard he doesn't like playing DH and that is the only spot for him on the Cubs, perfect chance for the Giants! Great episode as always Dan.

    Hey Dan,
    Something I was thinking about is that we have no idea where the Giants are heading. I think Posey saying "we are set" is to not be used in negotiation tactics with Boras. I am 50/50 on Pete Alonso, I know he can hit 30+ HRs for us with .230 or greater AVG and 80-100+ RBIs. If Ramos, Chapman, Adames, Eldridge, & Fitzgerald can hit 20+ HRs I think we are set there in the future. Lee is someone that can be the catalyst for the top of the lineup, it just sucks that he was hurt last year. I want to see Luciano in LF and just give him the rein there and watch him play there offensively & defensively. If Ramos, Fitzgerald, Luciano, Matos, & Eldridge (even if he starts in the minors) all can show they belong here. I think next offseason we could have a better shot adding Vlad Guerrero Jr. and making this team's lineup even that much stronger. I think Webb is the Ace, with Ray as #2 SP is where I can see this team winning games. Verlander will give this team much more veteran leadership and presence on the mound being the #3 starter. Oracle will help him our as well. Harrison, Hicks, & Birdsong might benefit with Verlander in the roster especially Harrison, Birdsong, Black, Winn, Beck, & Whisenhunt. Honestly, I was also thinking the Taylor Rogers trade might been a blessing in disguise because after looking in the game log I can see he wasn't used in High leverage situations. Erik Miller is going to be a good reliever for us and may have just worn down towards the end. 2nd Lefty could be Reggie Crawford especially if he can limit the Walks (Torn Laburn may keep him out for the entire 2025). Other options may include - Joe Whitman, Juan Sanchez, Ethan Small (who was supposed to be the 2nd lefty last year until he got hurt), Raymond Burgos, & possibly other candidates that may come into camp like Joey Luchessi.
    If they Giants get aggressive with Alonso then we should not expect Vlad Jr. next year.

    Dan, do you have knowledge that Alonso is WILLING to come to SF? How do you KNOW that Buster WASN'T told that Alonso is not interested in playing for SF. I hear this all the time from pundits and fans alike, "Why didn't the Giants sign player X or pitcher Z? " How do you KNOW they didn't try but were rejected? The CBA forbids teams from commenting on any negotiations until a deal is finalized. For all we know, Bregman, Alonso, Santander, etc. could have told Buster to take his offer and shove it.

    It seems as though Posey is hoping fans are smart enough to realize that this is probably a 2-3 year project - part cleaning up Farhan’s mess & implementing his vision/plan. He’ll never say that (though he should).
    Seems like the Adames/Chapman moves are purely to have “adults” in the room & mentors to young position players (JV for the young arms) while he plans beyond ‘25.

    • @dancoccimiglio1775
      @dancoccimiglio1775 9 дней назад +1

      Aaron thanks for commenting. The Adames/ Chapman moves are pretty expensive just for a slight rebuild especially considering Chapman will be 32. But it’s possible that he does have a 2-3 year plan. Good insight

    • @BentWookie-s5f
      @BentWookie-s5f 9 дней назад +1

      I fail to see either where he's cleaning up Farhan's mess and implementing his vision/plan. Extending Chapman for 6 years into his late 30's with a NTC and keeping Yaz at $10M since they're friends is pooping on top of the mess. If anything, ownership is hoping fans will make excuses because it's Buster as things continue to be the same.

    • @AaronLost
      @AaronLost 9 дней назад +1

      @@dancoccimiglio1775 yes, agree expensive for a slight rebuild, but these are cornerstone positions as well, held by respected players. So, perhaps staying in the “middle lane” is somewhat of an unfortunate byproduct of committing to a 2-3 year plan.
      I feel if we look at all this through the lens of Posey’s experience during the time he came up (key veterans on the team while the kids developed), it would help explain this current process a little better. Not that I necessarily agree with it, but maybe it helps shed some light on what’s happening. But… this also leads to potential problems as well because this is the only way Posey knows and we are 10+ years removed from that era of baseball.

    • @AaronLost
      @AaronLost 9 дней назад

      @@BentWookie-s5f I see what you’re saying but he’s been months on the job. If Posey truly wants to get back to drafting and developing, which I have no doubt that he does, this also conveniently would be approved by ownership because that method doesn’t require a lot of spending. So both Posey and ownership get their wishes, so to speak.
      Yes, they signed Adames/Chapman, which is spending a lot of money, but I just feel that they feel that that is necessary to have those types around young players. Were they overpays for simply that cause? Probably. But what isn’t an overpay? And Posey has no leverage given the state of the team Farhan left it in

    Here's the problem(s) I see with the Giants trying to compete by signing FA's like Alonso, they're betting for the absolute best case scenario outcome for Alonso with additional picks and bonus pool money; it's unsustainable. It's a misguided attempt to compete with a dead last farm system that's getting less resources year over year with the signing of multiple QO FA. Giants need to re-evaluate how they can have a sustainable competitive window rather than go for lottery ticket FAs. Dodgers should be the model, they've had an amazing offseason while keeping all their picks and adding an additional first round pick.

    They could sign Pete Alonso to a $30 million contract and still be under the CBT. The Dodgers are $144 million over the CBT even with all the deferrals and payroll shenanigans. Sure giving up the two draft picks would hurt but you know if he leaves after 2 or 3 years then you get those picks back. In the meantime you give the fans some reason to come out and support the team even if they’re still a 3rd or 4th place finisher in the division.

    The thing I would say as to Alonso ….I fully get what your saying with the dingers he hits in your park (stats are there to see), however …and this I’d suggest dove tails into your saying the front office is scared to make moves …..if the Giants are not looking like they are going to contend for the play offs, let alone get any where near the WS, why would Alonso want to come? Bowden also said how the Mets may well lure Alonso back (well Boras really) so if you do want Alonso to sit up and take notice, imho you will have to pay the man (as in like Bowden said front load the deal, not back load) and give him the opt outs! I fully agree with what you said Dan and I don’t get Posey’s adamant refusal to do that. Yes Posey was a Giant for his career, however in this day and age there are very few players that have (a) that kind of loyalty (b) want to have that kind of loyalty (c) can command contracts to see out their careers at a club….thereby opt outs are the thing imho we are going to see more and more and more off.
    Until Posey (I’m not being nasty here as I do like the guy) wakes up and realises that he has to put a winning team on the field, that anyone coming or thinking of coming will say hey that’s a place I wanna play as I will get to play in the post season every year I’m with them. Until and unless he does that (also as you correctly said is prepared to make moves and yes at times moves that will be uncomfortable, to me it will be a sign one and then patch and hope/pray job.
    You are the Giants …..you really should not be like this …..you should be biting at the Trolley Dodgers heels and making life uncomfortable for them.
