Congratulations on your Meet the Beatles vinyl! I opted for the box set which I received yesterday and am really enjoying it. This set is really a nostalgic experience as opposed to an audio file one and on the nostalgia level it succeeds. If I want an audio file level experience I always have the UK mono to listen to. They have released the US albums on CD in both stereo and mono in 2004, 2006 and 2014 and they are all still available to buy so to release this new set on CD might be a little redundant whereas the US vinyl has been missing for decades. Let’s hope they do another pass at the 2014 UK Mono vinyl set for the folks that missed out. Great video. Take care.
After a lot of deliberation, I preordered the box set from the Beatles website. I got 10% off, which brought it in at a price I was comfortable paying. It arrived this morning. I’m now putting it aside for Christmas - a gift to myself. Looking forward to it.
The box set in the UK is £230 on the Beatles site which equates to a shade under $290. The individual albums are £32 which equates to $40. It means the difference between the individual and box sets in the UK is about $50 which is probably reasonable. The fact that we're getting ripped off for the individual albums is the issue over here.
That was also my first Beatles album in 64, but when I realised those Capital ones weren't what the band issued, that was the end of those for me. I never listened to them again. If I did get one for nostalgic reasons, I would definitely have gotten the black as blue defeats remembering the one I got initially which I still have.
I have the original Beatles in Mono Boxset on vinyl, and love it. I'm 77, so nostalgia plays a big part in some of my vinyl purchases. That being said, I don't have that much nostalgia to want to buy the Capital US versions. And I usually find myself always starting at Sgt Pepper, but also Rubber Soul and Revolver when listening to the older stuff. Once in awhile, Help, but the earlier albums are great for a once a year type of thing. Retired and on a fixed income, the cost of vinyl is getting so high, it's almost no longer a luxury I can afford. Thanks for sharing your review.
If I owned and used a good turntable, I might have considered buying the albums, but I'm not a vinyl collector. I remember the night Meet The Beatles entered my life. I just turned eight, and I remember holding the album in my hands and staring at the back cover, it was fascinating to me, their faces, their whole look. The music was fun, exciting, and they seemed brand new, unlike anyone else.
Great review TJR. I grew up with these and have less than no interest in them. I''ll still with the albums as George Martin and the Beatles intended. I do wish they would repress the UK mono box.
I bought the first two new mono releases yesterday. I'm like you, I prefer their later stuff. I have all the UK stereo releases. I eventually warmed up to their early stuff. I will eventually get all the new us mono releases. I am one of those people that have to collect all of something if its available. Cool video! Subscribed!
First off I would keep it please don't sell it. I have the 1964 CDs box set of the US albums and I enjoy it greatly I know Dave Dexter was probably in his 40s when he did that work when he did that work on them. But I love the Reverb on I feel fine for instance. And the mono of and I love her from something new is single track which is hard to find. And there are so many examples I can give but I just enjoy the album and I'm happy to have the CD set in my collection. I always enjoy your videos. As this was a great review. Keep up the good work. Cheers from pennsylvania!
The tapes sent to Capital were most likely 2nd generation. However, these were obviously raw copies meaning that the Dave Dexter mixes were at least one generation further down, so 3rd generation. Further, many mono mixes in the US were actually fold downs of the stereo mix which saves Dave Dexter having to apply his mixing tricks twice for each song. So these mono fold-downs are 4th generation. A particularly egregious example is Ticket to Ride, where I believe they made a fake stereo mix and then needlessly folded the fake stereo down to mono instead of using the true mono mix.
Great honest review! I’m not a vinyl person. I’ll stick to my US ALBUMS box. (Cd) I get some of the rare mixes but most of the stereo and mono mixes(first generation) instead of those muddy versions.
Have all original Beatles Capital albums and they still play great. I do like the English versions better and have them in CD format. But had to have this album because.
It seems the Merch Bar deal fell through for everyone. And so did my Amazon Germany cheap deal. They seemed to only ship the few they got to European residents. Ugh! So, I grabbed another rare box set. The big Rory Gallagher "BBC Collection" set. Amazon Canada must pretty much be the last retailer in the world who still has it. And it was the same price I was gonna pay for The Beatles US Albums LP set. I wouldn't have wanted the six separate albums, it was all or nothing. I should enjoy that Rory Gallagher BBC box set, I love great electric guitar playing. and he was a guitar master.
I'm tempted to order Meet The Beatles on the blue vinyl. but I most likely won't. I already have the two Capitol Albums box sets and the Individual US Albums CDs. So my American titles are well planted in my collection. On vinyl I have a vintage copy of Yesterday & Today in mono, and this leaves the only US mono mix I have not heard is Revolver. And I don't know if that adds to or takes any thing away from my life. But I do seem to be in good health otherwise for a 63 year old.
I received the box set and the individual albums. They all sound great, very happy to have this set, hope Apple releases the next set of the later years. While these are not as the Beatles intended they are what they are, which to me should be celebrated as such. The British version will always be around, where's this set will not. People should give them a chance. Take care!
The thing is most people don’t want the original sound to be messed with. As from what i hear everyone says, there’s added reverb and echo and other things to the songs that just messes with the quality of the original album. The only good thing that i can see is, as he pointed out, these are not album releases, they are compilations and as such, when you pull stuff from the first album, the second album and a few hit singles, you’re going to have almost like a greatest hits compilation, which is the only thing going for them. Kinda like the red and blue albums.
I feel like I am missing out because I do not have a turntable and am just as much of a Beatles fan as all of you in the Vinyl Community. I know, the world's smallest violin is playing (from the original master tapes, of course). Enjoy Meet The Beatles!
I hear your violin loud and clear! I think Apple missed the boat and ignored a huge segment of the market place (not to mention dissing them in the process), by not releasing CD versions. Keep playing that violin and make them listen! 👍🏽
Not a vinyl guy, nor will I ever be. Believe it or not, I'm actually glad that I was able to take a year off from the Beatles bandwagon. I say to those who wish to buy these albums enjoy them. Like you I have a ton of nostalgia for this album and not much for the rest of the what's in the box. On Compact Disc this box is needless. What I'd rather see than a release of this box on CD is a rerelease of the Capitol box sets with new packaging preferably similar to the US Albums box.
Don't get why so many RUclips creators missed out on the Beatles and Stones mono boxed sets. They were readily available and got good reviews. Now they settle for inferior American or colored vinyl versions because for some odd reason they slept through the original release
While i can’t speak for them, i will say that personally for me, i opted to buy the stereo mixes as opposed to the mono versions because i like to hear songs in full stereo, with the instruments on one side and the vocals on the other, the mixing is just preferable to me. I tried mono once and it was so disappointing that I said never again. I honestly don’t get why some people consider them to be of higher value when it doesn’t sound like it. If it’s for nostalgic reasons then i get it but still.
People our age know how to speak, and when we don't see it in the written form, it's apparent to us. P.S. I think the word you were looking for was veil over the sound.
Hey, as far as I'm concerned, the best way to listen to The Beatles is through their Capitol 45 rpm singles! DO NOT APOLOGIZE for caring about grammar. Hell, I don't even bother reading comments if I see misspellings, no punctuation, misuse of adverbs, misuse of adjectives, etc. Why should I waste my time trying to decipher what some lazy person is trying to say... especially when there are thousands of other comments begging to be scanned?
So why after spending half your video telling us all the faults about the record and why you are not going to buy them, why did you buy this record?? Just asking!
I’m guessing For the same reason i bought this one in particular, it’s a colored vinyl. I am not a fan of the US albums and don’t intend on buying them. I ordered this one for the blue color and i ordered the UK A Hard Day’s Night limited edition white vinyl. Both arrived today and they look awesome but i like color vinyl as a collector, even knowing that the Meet The Beatles sound isn’t up to the standards of the UK original albums.
The early version stereos were awful. There would be drums on one side and guitars on the other. A remix was definitely called for, but of course the monos were the real thing!
Bad grammar on a professional release for a band of such magnitude is frankly a disgrace. Similarly, mirror images of Elvis were occasionally used on his record covers, which for an artist of his standing, which I think is inexcusable. It seems to me to be a difference in culture. Integrity was at the heart of the UK releases, with the focus being on producing a quality product. Meanwhile, the US releases are characterised by cutting corners, and squeezing as much as possible out of the material without any effort made towards giving the customer value for money. This is why the US releases have been consigned to their time and now only of interest to those who wish to indulge in nostalgia, whereas the UK releases remain timeless.

U might want to check it because a lot of people are having issues with the records. I’ve seen 3 videos on issues that need replacing

Wow! That really stinks. Sorry to hear.
Fantastic video TJ!
Great commentary - have a great Thanksgiving !!!
Thanks, and you too!
Great looking album cover !

Thanks for sharing your thoughts…..And they should have released a CD version for fans like yourself.
Be glad you don't have a good turntable because this repress would have ruined your awesome memories, do yourself a favor, you are actually lucky
Great honest video. The only one of these I’ll be buying is Something New which is my favorite record. I hope it sounds good when played.

I’m not buying anymore of these money grabs until they do the box sets of Rubber Soul and the rest of the album remixes..LFG!
Awesome video have a great day also I feel sad ❤😢
Sorry you feel sad. Hope you feel better soon.

You are right about the grammar. I think that young people don't read so they don't know how to write English.

You know I was just telling Superfan that if Apple released the rest of US albums in mono, I would definitely get Yesterday and Today. 🙂

I just picked that record It’s in black though. Not blue.
Black or Blue, it will still sound the same. Happy listening 🙂

I think these sound a lot better than the original lps. I had to get a cleaner copy of meet and something new
Glad you are enjoying them. 😊

OOOOO//// TO GET A MONEY ///// TO GET A .....NEW-OLD VINIL....
another 10 million to paul mccartney's bank account

(Spock voice) Curiosity.....Insatiable curiosity.

A whopping $59 in Canada. Yikes !!
"Omigosh!

Well said. Thank you.
This isn’t an “unboxing” and didn’t need to be 17 minutes long 😆
Not interested in mono. Ever since i first heard Beatles songs in mid 70s, they've always been in stereo for me.
I don't consider U.S. Beatles albums "real" or "cannon"
Same here.
The word you’re looking for is “canon,” and it’s a goofy thing for grown adults to be concerned about.
