In Uptown Funk's Biggest Deep Dive yet, we take a look at the full history of Struggling performer turned struggling assistant, Uncle Deadly! From his debut to 2023....
As much as I adore Jerry Nelson's work I have to admit that I also enjoy Matt Vogel's take on the character better. I'm not crazy about Vogel's Kermit but I think he does an exceptional job with Floyd, Uncle Deadly, and The Count.
As a fan of the Muppets (since before I could talk), I actually remember Uncle Deadly in his Phantom of the Muppet Theater appearance... To a VERY young me, he was the scariest thing I had encountered. Scariest... until Jim Henson, again, terrorized me with Skeksis torturing podlings and gelflings...
My family members who saw the muppet movie with Uncle Deadly in it kept saying he reminded them of me so I had a good laugh when I finally saw him for myself. Great fun video, nice work all around!
@@DaddyOfTheSugarVariety that would be amazing! Unfortunately, I think they've said it's unlikely they'll make any playsets. Their balcony makes me want them to make playsets even more.
I know there was probably too many things to talk about, but Uncle Deadly has a starring role in the Boom Comics Muppet retelling of Sherlock Holmes as Prof. Moriarty and he's devilishly delightful in it
Uncle Deadly was fascinating to me especially after his various appearances. I thought he would really frighten me as a kid. It turns out he fascinated me instead. It probably helped him and Count were voiced by the same guy. Though I do admit he was very intimidating. His moment in the 2011 film really made me love the character.
After "Phantom of the Opera", Deadly reappeared in what was sadly the only other book in the "Meet the Classics" series, based on Grimm fairy tales. He appeared in at least two of them: the title role in "Unclestiltskin" (after Rumple, of course) and in the role of the witch (though that's not what he was referred to as) in "Pepe and Polly", based on "Hansel and Gretel". He might have appeared in othe stories in that book as well, but I don't off the top remember.
You gotta love it, when the RUclips Algorithm recommends a fun new interesting channel to watch. Uncle deadly was probably my favorite in the ABC show along with Scooter.
Just found this channel! Love these character deep dives! My favorite character is Skred!!!! A forgotten character that once did a duet with Lilly Tomlin….
I definitely got swept up by all the new Uncle Deadly stuff, but even excluding the actual character stuff I think he’s just one of the coolest muppet builds. Any time I watch anything with him in it I end up mesmerized by the flowy whisker/feather things
I’ve really enjoyed how they’ve handled uncle deadly in recent years of muppet projects. He went from being just a simple one off character in the original muppet show to now being one of the main muppet characters. I especially like the dynamic between Uncle Deadly and Miss Piggy, pre the 2010 and 2020 decade the two hadn’t much, yet surprisingly they really do work off well with one another, and surprisingly have a lot in common. Honestly, think Deadly deserves his own spin off series, kinda like muppets mayhem with The Electric Mayhem, I know that there was going to be an Uncle deadly spin off series back in the 90s where the tone would have been similar to shows like Tales From The Crypt and Goosebumps, but I think they should revive that concept, because Uncle deadly has been a greatly written character in the muppets franchise. (Also it could be me, but I always felt like Deadly’s design kind of reminded me of The Skeksis from The Dark Crystal)
Great video uncle deadly is one of my favourite Muppets and I'm glad he got his own video so thanks for this. I also like to suggest a video ( not sure is it counts as a Muppet deep dive or a Muppet history lesson) about Muppet versions of celebrities like the Muppet Juliet prowse and the Muppet Tim curry/long John silver.
i prefer his more sinister classic portrayal but regardless, he remains my fav muppet character. i hope his creepy side gets a full chance to shine someday
I find it interesting that Uncle Deadly threats to close the theatre because various critics "killed" his career through criticizing his performances in various Shakespeare plays is similar to Vincent Price's role in Theatre of Blood where Price played an actor whoose performances in various Shakespeare plays were viciously attacked by various critics and who comes back after faking his own death to avenge himself on the critics.
I've been curious about this character, and I didn't remember seeing him until the Muppet Movie. But he's definitely a great character, and I really enjoyed learning more about his history -- particularly how the Muppets ABC series actually did him some serious good. Thanks for your diligent research and these fascinating videos! Would love to see you cover Bobo at some point. My favorite appearance of his was on Family Feud, believe it or not. His performance was handled beautifully there. Super immersive performance. And that's not just because he takes up like 90% of the screen lol
Glad he got his due in the new movies and is now basically a regular again.
Uncle Deadly and Wayne are a very underrated duo
As much as I adore Jerry Nelson's work I have to admit that I also enjoy Matt Vogel's take on the character better. I'm not crazy about Vogel's Kermit but I think he does an exceptional job with Floyd, Uncle Deadly, and The Count.

One of my all-time favorite Muppets ❤️
He looks like a Chinese dragon
This is the best Episode Ever, Uncle Deadly is my favorite Muppet of all Time.👍
My family members who saw the muppet movie with Uncle Deadly in it kept saying he reminded them of me so I had a good laugh when I finally saw him for myself. Great fun video, nice work all around!
Uncle Deadly is the bomb -- sometimes literally. Love him.
Could we please have a Sweetums episode? I love his origin (The Frog Prince).
I love that Uncle Deadly's figure comes with a ghost, but that just makes me wish they'd done toys for Alice Cooper's monster troupe.
I don’t why I’m just finding this channel but I’m happy that I did.
I'm excited that Diamond Select is continuing the Muppet line!
Me too! Deadly and Pepe seem like a good choice for the next pair. I hope they sell well enough for Diamond Select to keep making more Muppet figures.
@@gmtuttle Agreed & maybe some playsets.

It's interesting to see what an excellent character this phantom turned out to be. Maybe the critics can now forgive him!

One of my favorite all-time Muppets right next to Kermit.
Omg thank you so much for choosing my suggestion

Just found this channel!
Love these character deep dives!
My favorite character is Skred!!!!
A forgotten character that once did a duet with Lilly Tomlin….
I can't help but hear "Uncle Dudley"
The Twiggy episode and that sketch with the man eating furniture freaked me out when I was younger.
He was always a favorite of mine.
I love your channel so much !!! Thank you !! What a great idea for deep dives

Yes!!!
I’m glad this is a video that exists

One of my favorite Muppets, and it was all because of his connection to Vincent Price.
I thought he was in the Alice Cooper episode.?.
Great video.
I agree they did a good job fleshing him out to be unique. They recently did this with lips with the Muppet Mayhem show
I’ve seen him referred to as “deadly the catfish” which explains the whiskers
Ah yes, Uncle Deadly

Now I'm wondering what happened to all those Muppet Paul Williamses!
i prefer his more sinister classic portrayal but regardless, he remains my fav muppet character. i hope his creepy side gets a full chance to shine someday
This muppet reminds me of the muppets that were on the early years of Saturday Night Live.
The Phantom of the Muppet Show, 😊
What if Uncle Deadly is just old FIgment, but wore out and given up hope for humanity?
will you also dive into muppets from sesame street and the old jim henson commercials or is it strictly disney muppets?
next muppet for muppet deep dive: clifford

I would like to see a deep dive of Crazy Harry
It's been about a month since your last video, is everything ok?
Yep! Just working on a very, very big holiday special lol-should be out in the next few days!
Realjims but for muppets? Insta subbed

I'd really love to look into how Bobo works, since he's so big-people are always shocked when I tell them he isn't a full-body character
