Great video bro. Thanks for highlighting these awesome guitars and making people aware of Charlie. He’s a force of nature and totally unique. His pocket is second to none. By the way, you’re a pretty awesome player yourself 💝
I do believe your tele obsession has reached its apex haha. In fact, you got me to get one lol. Love mine, but I’m thinking a Hybrid is in the future now.
I got a similar instrument over the summer, and will probably order a Hybrid next year since they're built significantly better, and are a little shorter scale. Mine is 30 3/8" to 33 1/4" scale and it was like some guy in Bahrain looked a picture of Charlie's instrument and said "yeah, I can build something like that." I wound up finding it on Reverb when I was looking at maybe an old Novax 8 string like he used in the 90s. You could probably ask Charlie to do this show, specifically. He's approachable on IG and FB, and just such a great sharer of wisdom. You've been at it a year at this point, so I don't know what happened with your Journey on this instrument, but the one thing I immediately noticed watching this was: You're approaching it Top Down and it should always be Bottom up. I don't need to tell you how hitting that groove with both parts is indescribably satisfying. On my instrument, which I'll probably release videos of on, The Jazz Destroyers RUclips Channel, or Get Off My Lawn Records if I do another record under my name. Right now, I'm in the woodshed on my instrument, which feels like playing a 7 string guitar on a 6 string bass neck. I sure am looking to upgrade. I pinged Hybrid about it, and they say they should be able to get reasonably close in color to my Strat. I'm undecided if I want to spend the extra for the tele body. They tell me it's about 6 months these days. You sound better a day in than I did.
@@piercemayville3328 I gotta be honest, this thing I play on is basically one step above home-made and you're better off spending the 4k on one from Asheville
I can barely play walking bass lines with the chords, and I don't care. Charlie Hunter's playing absolutely sells this guitar for me. Could you imagine Joe Pass on one of these?
@@LeviClay Thank you. I visited their website and got even more curious with all the different tuning possibilities. Btw, from all the videos I watched about this instrument, yours was the one I liked the most. Congratulations! And thanks for answering.
"So the only instrument for me is always going to be a telecaster," while sitting in front of Mayones and Vigier non-telecaster guitars :D Love the content, though and will have to check out Hybrid Guitars. Cheers!
Does this work with regular full chords ? Like using the bass strings for full chords. That’s all I really play but I want one of these. I know probably a 5th or 4th in those bass strings will sound huge like a power chord on a bass, but will that mix with the rest of the strings alright? Every single demo on these everyone only plays them like a bass and only the guitar strings mainly for small guitar chords. Let me know anyone if you know
Hey Levi! Thanks for asking my previous question. One more thing, if you could share: what strings (brand, type and and gauge) do you use on it (or comes with it)? Thank you again.
Hey Arley - It's a custom set they sent me with it, they also sent a spare set which I've not gone through, but I've not needed to buy a new set yet, so I haven't asked Clay the specifics
Yeah? See many fanned fret 7s with this range in scale? With stereo pickups that output to tell different amps. Literally some strings going to one rig and some going to another? I get the feeling you wanted to look smart. Pick yourself up. Dust yourself off. Move forward.
Has anyone mentioned John Etheridge? He’s been trucking around a tele with 2 bass strings since at least the late 00s, which can be seen on the cover of “Alone! Live”. Somewhat more basic version (I believe it’s a custom neck bolted to a bog standard Fender), but it’s a nice bit of (barely) history. It gets used on “Doxy”.
May it serve long and well and never cease to inspire, Levi!

you play with great finesse my friend. wonderful
super cool playing, the guitar looks stunning
@ClayConner and @WesLambe are incredible builders! And yes, they use (and respect) Ralph Novak's (Novax Guitars) fanned fret system! Beautiful guitar!
Excellent video, btw how much is your guitar?
God bless Charlie Hunter
Great playing. Considering 8 string but worried about the width.

Hi Levi, what’s the tuning? Not sure if you mentioned it & I missed.
It's beautiful...looks like a cross between modern and classic but done right
Nice Guitar! My Wes Lambe 8 string is a super well made instrument. Welcome to the club!
That's amazing!

Very pretty indeed. I wonder what is harder to get used too, a seventh string or fan frets.
Always depends on how extreme the fan is! This one is the first one I’ve really had to focus on as it’s so extreme!
That is one attractive instrument

Oh yeah... Pass would make bassist jobless.
Great video and great guitar! Do you mind saying how much it cost?
I can tell you the retail price would have been $4275, I got a deal on it though, so wasn't as much as that.

I wouldn’t, it would be too muddy
Does the pickup somehow prevent bleed through to outputs?
there is the tiniest bit of bleed, but no more than what you'd expect in drum mics.
Ok so that’s just melted my brain. Sounds great.
i had a vintage Gretch Studio Stereo but it was destroyed by flood b4 i
ever even got to play it
Fanned Frets are an old idea from the Orpharion
oh look... you're back. Did I ask?
