As always I appreciate your time and thanks for watching.
It did really good in my testing. In the impact resistance on the aluminum rod and the chopping the 3 copper wires in the romax cable. It didn’t phase the edge much at all. Thanks for your hard work in the videos. 👌🏻
I saw that ,it did well. I'm going to do some more testing and see how it turns out.
@@Outpost_76 same here and I think once I’m done testing I’m going to get it reground because it already preforms pretty good being thick bte so I’m sure it would be an even better edc. Let me know how yours go 👌🏻
@@Stassa23 this one could use a regrind. It's. 035 bte by the plunge and grows to .050 at the tip at 15 dps.
@@Outpost_76 holy crap my friend. Cant believe it cuts lol
One thing I’ve noticed with a lot of reviewers recently how they focus so much on the value of a knife. If people wanted to get the most bang for their buck they would buy a Civivi Baklash, or something similar. People aren’t buying the 20.5 for a exotic blade steel or a nice handle material, they are buying it for the shark lock. Nice video👍
Its basically a modified axis lock.
@@tacticalcenter8658 true bimho soooo much better
You are the only channel I watch EVERY video. I really appreciate your content.
Thank you
Thank you for your work! This is one of the most trustworthy sources of information on knives on the Internet!
You're welcome and thank you.
Agree!
Yep
I was thrilled to see your original video on it, but I tend to value serious edge retention, so I’d still love to see a bit fancier steel for the price point they’re asking.
35 thou BTE @ 15 dps is the deal killer as far as I'm concerned. That's what is really going to effect edge retention not to mention cutting performance, not the steel type.
I understand that view as I normally carry things with much better wear resistance than this knife.
I said this in the last aus 10 video, the steel seems very reasonable for an EDC choice. As far as corrosion, thats a non factor too, as I have a K390 Endela that I've had about 6 or 7 months and its blade is literally black with tarnish, I just sharpen it and it keeps performing great. I am just not a fan of that thick grind they put on the AD-20.5, other than that, nice EDC !!! Thanks for the vid Gerald, we appreciate it.
Came for more information on aus 10a. Getting my ad 20.5 Wednesday! Thanks!
Thank you for a real information.
You're welcome
Have a couple of AUS10A from cold steel and the edges are great for retention and easy to sharpen. Keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
I personally like Aus10 I have 4 coldsteel knives with it. I really like it. Like the other guy said I'm sure this is the same company coldsteel uses.
I really would like to get one but I don't have the money right now.
I usually lose a knife before sharpening ever made a difference. And I sharpened knives for years. Learn how to sharpen on a buck ranger. To me learning to sharpen buck stainless was hard. Of course back then nobody had diamond stones. Nowadays no steels are hard to sharpen.
I don't understand how people don't understand the factory edge is usually the worst edge. But you are spreading a wealth of information I throughly enjoy your videos. And the pug. One of the best dog breeds I've ever had. So I never tire of seeing one.
Ageis will be making it in to some more videos. I agree the factory edge is almost always the worst edge a particular knife will ever have.
Thanks looking forward to more on AUS10a
Just got the Sharkfoot blade shape version ordered and I'm glad to have this resource to know I didn't buy a knife totally useless in a general work environment. Thanks!
I really love this community but I will never understand the whole preserving steel thing and more so the fear of removing the factory edge, either because of resale value or that people somehow think the factory edge must be superior. I have a feeling that like so many other knives and steel, people are solely basing their opinion on the factory edge or worse just regurgitating something they read or heard. I also think this knife has been bought by alot of people as a “Collectible” instead of a user. So my guess would be alot of people are just repeating what they heard, which is why your videos are so valuable and a huge service to the community. I’ve heard so many people championing Cold Steel’s AUS-10A which this knife likely has the exact same heat treat from the same OEM but now all the sudden 10A is no good? I’ve had no issues with mine and I’ve only done one full sharpening to “reprofile” it to 17°, properly apex the edge, and remove some of the burnt steel. As always great video!
Prior to testing factory edges the first thing I did to a new knife was sharpen it. I have no interest in preserving fatigued steel with a factory edge. Even your first sharpened edge will be better so I also don't get that aspect.
Very nice video. I´ve been on the fence about this blade and AUS10, but I think I'll pull the trigger. Cheers!!
Another solid video thanks outpost , looking forward to see how zt goes !
I took a break from sharpening mine to watch this. Dulled it once and the second edge already feels better. I think it will be fine after a few more. Deburring wasn't terrible either, just a little mushy feeling on the the first one. Thanks for the update on yours
I have 2 ad 20.5’s and they have both been performing just fine for what it is. Mine are the most recent batches so I can’t say how the very first batch was but as far as the one I’m using their just fine IMO…
Thanks so much for all this testing you do and I’ve heard that the aus 10 is not good from other people in the community, but I always wait to see your feedback before making a decision. So thx again your a huge instrumental part of the community that we couldn’t do without 👍🏼…
Thanks for all the work you are doing to help set the record straight on all the steels you test. I get tired of a lot of these channels complaining about a steel choice without even testing it to see what it is capable of. I always learn something every time I watch.
You're welcome and thank you for the support.
Great test videos ! Very detailed and knowledgeable
Thank you
Thank you for testing it. You answered my questions about the steel. Keep up the good work.
You're welcome and thank you
Your awesome 👍
I had a cold steel air lite in AUS10. It had problems with deburring the first 2 times I sharpened it. I'm guessing that the same Taiwan oem is making these for Demko
My Airlite drop point was the same way.
Thanks for all your feedback and I’m really looking forward to your sharpening video as well. Keep up the great work 👍🏼
You're welcome and the ZT S35VN video will be out this afternoon.
@@Outpost_76 awesome I’m curious how that one will do. I’ll definitely watch it as soon as I get home from work…
Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!
Much love from Switzerland
You're welcome
thank you so much for all your work! great info!
You're welcome
Yep agree - I rate AUS10A, even 9crMov and 10CrMovs way more than people give credit for. I have a Steel Will Druid 250 that is 9Cr18Mov, which I've hammered with batoning, smashed as much as I can outdoors. No issue with it, good user steel. . Also holds decent edge and sharpens/strops back so well, I actually lean towards this when at camp rather than my carbon steels. Also AUS10A in mini Recon1, 4max scout performs very well. Prefer over 154CM, and way better than VG10. Its very underrated, think has too close a perception connection to AUS8
Thanks for the effort G! Never miss your vids, don't always comment but always like. Keep it up.🙂👍
Thank you
I’m hella excited for that sharpening video
It will be up this afternoon
Thanks for all the work you do!
Great video G!! Thanks for all the work you put into the video’s and thanks for sharing brother!!👊👊
Thank you and you're welcome.
Great discussion. Love your channel.
Thank you
Nice little review, Don’t give me wrong I understand that there are premium steals for a reason but personally I can’t tell the difference past D2. Don’t get me wrong I know that there are differences and I’m not trying to be a snob, but the only marketable difference in my line of work is corrosion resistance.
Great video and super helpful. Sharpen your knives people. It's not just useful, it's fun!
I have a cold steel air lite in aus10 and it seems to be holding up fine for me no issues yet.
Good things come to those that wait. I purchased a AD 20.5 in 3V and yes I ordered the upgraded titanium scale package from original Goat. I’d say I’m a happy pickle. I am waiting for another drop of the original AD 20 in 3V. I keep saying that that will be the end of buying knives. But I have issues. 😁 I love to know if you have any need to upgrade the steel bearings. I see a lot of folk advocating Skiff caged bearings?
Seams like a good knife. I think I would go with the mini Adamas personally. Appreciate what you do brother. Looking forward to the 0640 testing.
I need to try a mini Adamas and see how I like it compared to the regular one. 0640 is almost done.
The new Adamas both have lock fails which occur really easily. Maybe wait for a V2.
@@Aurelius_01 I've done things to push the lock on mine to see if it would fail and I haven't had an issue with mine not staying locked yet. What exactly are you doing to make it fail?
@@Outpost_76 sorry for the late answer, I rarely look my notifications... I don’t have one but saw multiple reviews where it happen in like 2 or 3 hits of light battoning. And after the that le lock was pretty dead, can’t stand a hit from a little flick of the wrist on the back of the blade. Apparently the pin is way smaller than in the original, the spring to.
Edit : the pin of the axis-lock
Nice video! Would love to see an AUS 10A battle between the newly revived Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 and this Demko. 2 smaller, tanky builds that are somewhat thick BTE
I've thought about doing just that.
I got the mini Recon 1 and the AUS10A on that seems to mimic this behavior, lose fine edge sooner than I would like. Removed about 1mm width with at least 5 sharpenings @ 17 degrees. Hand sharpening on diamond and removing burr with effort on ceramic. Used on cardboard and wood cutting for set building.
Excited for the 0640 results.
Its only my second ZT and I see a ton of complaints about their 20cv but mines been fine. I know BM isn't pushing any boundaries with their 20cv, but my 0640 has been just as good as my anthem in day to day use.
I'm done with the test and just have to finish editing and upload the video.
I’m not sure why anyone would say AUS10A isn’t a good steel? My knives with AUS10A keep up with my Kershaw knives with CPM154 and my Protech in 154CM really well.
I sharpened my factory AD20.5 edge to 16°. Measured 0.25" behind the edge fresh out of the box, and it's 0.26" after the sharpening. So yeah ... not a huge difference. I have the KnifeCenter exclusive K110 (D2) version, btw. Be interesting to see an edge retention comparison between it and AUS10A.
Obviously I meant .025 and .026"!
Thanks!
Thanks again
You're welcome
Thanks for the update G!
Curious as to your thoughts on AUS10A toughness and even stability relative to other similarly priced steels?
I'll get with you tomorrow.
Aus 10 was bad shun kitchen knives wouldn’t be using it . Another good video 👍
This is actually a great comment, but probably not for the reason you intended.
Apologies if you were being sarcastic, if that's the case then bravo, sir!
Nice video G.
Thanks
I think i've seen a shirogorov on your older videos.. did you ever test the shirogorov with cardboard cutting ? Just wonder how good the steel from higher end brand knife perform.
I did test 2 in M390 and the video is back about a year ago.
Hi I'm using a precision adjust by work sharp on my umnumzaan and can't get my burr to go from the belly to the tip. It's good on all the flat. Anyone know what my problem might be ?
Change in the bevel angle do the marker thing
You don't have the proper blade position. You will have to rotate the blade some so you get even contact or you just haven't sharpened all the way down to the apex yet on that part of the blade.
I just have no Interest in the knife itself as a whole. I don’t care it’s in aus10. If I get a demko it has to be the real deal big boy brother and that’s it.
I have both..they feel very different, I like them each for different reasons. The AD20...really has limited uses day to day, unless you find yourself doing very heavy wood related tasks (in 3V) it spits food..not so much slicing it.
@@maxlvledc I would have one reground with a deep hollow grind by bgm knives. He does sick hollow grinds. He’s done about 5 of my knives. Two are hinderer xm-18’s
@@tallica4life81 very cool! I bet because the Ad20.5 has so much steel..its a good knife to regrind.
Seems like a decent steel. I actually really like Aus8 that's done well. Does Aus10 take the same type edge as Aus8? My Rat1 seems to get really sticky and really bites into your fingers.
Now that this has been sharpened as much as it has yes it does come up nicely.
No thumbs down from me, I really appreciate your work 👍
Thank you
I don't care for the design. And if I were to pick one up I'd most likely convert to a convex profile over time. As far as sharpening, the first edge or two corrects the inconsistencies from the factory. It's not a Nascar race, and thicker geometry will also extend the time too. I haven't watched the edge retention video but if the results are 180 feet or more than there's no reason to complain. Too many ppl do reviews with air cutting as their baseline for ergonomics and value. Until reviewers start cutting 1/2 inch manilla rope on camera or other repeatable tasks they have no right to create content. I have had very limited use with aus10 but I remember enjoying it. And wanting to keep carrying it instead of continuing my carry testing schedule.
This did over 200 feet repeatedly. It's been a solid performer.
The elephant in the room is this Demco is 10A not AUS10 there is a difference between them. 10A is closer to 154CM and is a good steel.
What's the difference? The A stands for annealed as far as I have read
AUS10A= AUS10 but factory annealed. Proper heat treat involves annealing followed by Austenizing, then quenching and then tempering.
Why knives marked AUS10A performs better than those marked aus10? maybe it's because most knives marked AUS10A come from Cold steel's OEM and they just heat treat better.
In the circles I run in the concensus is pretty clear that Aus-10 is a good steel especially for a knife like that. I haven't seen people ragging on it. Maybe I'm just lucky?
go to Nick Shabazz's review on this and see the comment section. If you have history of cardiovascular disease have someone close by just in case
@@CKshouta I'm not surprised because a majority of Nick Shabazz audience are more interested in the premium than the performance.
It's something I've seen a lot of here on RUclips and in some other groups.
People are these days just steel snobs. I find most knife edges retain sharpness better after a couple/few sharpens.
I put this down to the factory machine grind heating up and messing with the steel. That's my theory anyways.
I use a Voyager in AUS10A as a utility. It's bloody amazing.
The fact that people are scared to sharpen their knives, shows that they're not users therefore their opinion doesn't really count
People aren’t having an issue with the steel. People are having an issue with paying 150$ for it. I can’t not agree with that part I guess. But as far as the steel itself, it gets the job done. My vg-10 on my endura is great. Even if it does have to be sharpened more often.
He's really complaining about how people have an issue with AUS10 steel even though this performs better than most other production steels that are considered "better". For example if you look at many of testings of S30V, S35VN, 20CV/M390, this steel performed just as good if not better than most of them in edge retention.
The same people complaining about this price for aus 10A are paying crazy spyderco prices for vg10
@@jpolhamus71 150$ for for Aus10a vs. 80$ for VG-10. Nevertheless, I still think the vg-10 spydercos are overpriced. What people are paying 150$ for is a shark lock. Just my opinion. With that being said, I’m just going to wait and see what other materials Demko comes out with for future AD20.5 models.
@@ryangilbert3184 Spyderco police in VG10 is $150. But yeah Andrew has already said next year the 20.5 will be offered in s36vn and 3v and different cool scales
@@jpolhamus71 people are just crapping on steels if they aren’t “premium steels” which sucks.
I don't have a problem with AUS10(A). I'm just not going to pay that much for AUS 10 and plastic handles. To each his own. Good discussion.
Wood be nice with a Krein regrind.
They definitely need a regrind.
I assume people complaining about certain steels are individuals that haven’t had much experience with them. Get it if you like it, enjoy it as much as you can, learn from your decisions. Make your own ideas instead of relaying others words. Just sayin…
