@@Tom2182 maybe aesthetic
you know it's gonna be good when it starts with the Tangled dance song
Yess I knew this song was from some Disney movie I just couldn’t place it
I would love to dive into that movie if it was real. I love the world building in that rather than Arendelle 😁
You're a peasant in Medieval Rome. The end of the day finds you at your favorite tavern in the ancient Trastevere neighborhood downing a couple tankards of grog, a welcome change from the hours of backbreaking labor spent toiling in your lord's fields. Later, as you stumble your way back to your quarters, you pass the crumbled ruins of the great empire that once stood here. You've never given them much attention but now, bathed in moonlight, you get a sense of their scale and grandeur and it fills you with awe.
NO WAY PEOPLE ARE ROMANTICIZING MEDIEVAL ROME😭😭
Can I do an investigation check in the crumbled ruins? *grabs D20 from dice bag*
Their hands pressed gently on yours, "let's dance, m'lady."
"Now?!"
"Yes! the sun and moon spins and spins. We can't just stand and watch!"
Oh and you open with THAT SONG
I'm immediately sold on that
This music makes me want to reenact a medieval ballroom scene all by myself in my kitchen
I love that picture, it's so awesome.... you should get a sticker book, "Antiquarian Sticker Book", full of so many old wacky stickers. Some of cottage core, others are creepy skeletons and so many are weird and have many beautiful Victorian people with their big hair, and dancing men. So awesome. This music will surely be awesome, can't wait!
I neeeeeeed this in my life!
@@Call-me-Al it's an amazing book! SOO many cool, weird Victorian stickers, and lots of unique letters to spell out some
i have it :)
@@teresalynnhasan-kerr9373 so cool!

I love medieval music wildly, I can’t wait for this!!!
Solid start with the kingdom dance song from Tangled
i've been waiting for this playlist since you mentioned it in a poll, thanks a lot!
yes omg love ur channel
Fantastic. I've just ended Eco's "The name of the rose", super excited for this!
Itz starting..
I'm nervous about this playlist...
I do study musicology and I'm really into medieval music. So... I hope I can hold myself back to not criticise it. Or at least not too harshly 🙈🙈
But a reminder to everyone: Every piece, song, etc. that we have the notation from that era leads to a interpretation from the performing ensembles. That's because the music tells so little that it's difficult to grasp it. Musicologist and performers have also often times quite different views on how those pieces were performed.
Ergo: Everything we describe as "music from the middle ages" is more modern music (because of the interpretation) than probably actually medieval.
Edit, after listening:
Ok, what
ultravclet did with this playlist is that modern compositions from pop cultures were taken. Most of them have a "celtic" approach (rhythm, ormentation, instrumentation that is used in music with a more traditional approach that has it origins in Scotland and Ireland). Which is okay because, as the playlist says, it is to make you feel like being in a tavern.
If you go for a more historical apporach, looking for dance music might be the best choice. For Trobador music (1100-1350 AD) dansa, balada, estampida and retroencha are the genres that should work best.
Trying to make a playlist in this manner for laymen, I imagine, must be quite difficult and the audience might not like it that much (?) as it sounds very foreign. So I personally think ultravclet's choice of using very modern, fantastic compositions could be an introduction or at least a fun playlist to listen to. Even though it is nowhere close what musicologists and ensembles think might be close to how music was performed 600-1000 years ago. :)
That's super interesting. Any books about Medieval music and/or these thoughts on performance you can point me too?
@@Nightband almost all the ones I read, both for uni and for myself, are in German. I don't have access to my institution's library right now. But if you look for articles and books about music history that covers the middle ages you should learn the basics of how musicologists potray music at the time. (keywords might also be Trobador/ Troubadour, Trouvère, Minnesang, ars subtilior, ars antiquia, ars nova, Gregorian chant, instruments, Notre-Dame periode/school).
If you have university access, you might have also access to the online versions of the MGG (biggest German music encyclopaedia, online version has all of the articles also in English) and the New Grove (music encyclopaedia by the Oxford University Press).
But if you're interested how vastly different interpretations can be, you can do a youtube search for pieces like Palästinalied by Walther von der Vogelweide (Minnesang) or Douce Dame Jolie by Guillaume de Machaut (Trouvère, I think it's in this manner composed)
If you like Middle English, I recommend listening to the song "miri it is while sumer ilast". I alway listen to the interpretation of Ensemble belladonna. But if you just look it up on RUclips you will find different interpretations.
Hope this is somewhat helpful :)
oh shut up

starting with tangled ost is such a power move!!!!!!!
I love it!!
For anyone concerned - it is meant for fun, for imagination. Some tracks sounding quite modern gave this kind of lively grip, so full historical accuracy isn't that necessary (but of course is appreciated 😌).
i love your channel
This is awesome!

14:37 this song reminded me of a fanart I saw a few months ago on pinterest. It was Joan of Arc, my favorite character from Fate. This fanart represented her walking and looking from a huge white stone building, up there were some flags hanging in the color of the French flag of the time and others of the noble houses that helped in the war. I believe it was Reims Cathedral, where the king's coronation was celebrated. There were many people passing by, including soldiers passing by without noticing the beauty of the place, as if they were already used to the grandeur of the city, but the fact that only Joan was looking at the top of the cathedral shows that she really never thought about visiting such a place. that one. The bottom-up angle makes her look so small in front of the Cathedral, and it makes me feel the same way she probably did. even though she had her head turned so that we couldn't see her expression. You can feel her expression and the feeling of a girl who came from a farm in the far east, and was now beside and admired by the most important and respected people in the kingdom, in the most important event of the time for the French. I looked for this fanart on pinterest, and I regret not having saved it to my account. I'll find it one day, and I'll keep it in a folder, so I'll always remember it.
sorry if there are spelling mistakes, i used the translator.
Edit: i found the fanart. pin.it/1Csjqey
Well, I can't not ask for the link to the art now that you've found it
The way my cracked lips stretched when I heard the first second of the first song.
The realm of Castille doth flourish in the wake of her noble majesty's union. Yet, the common folk holdeth little regard for the schemes of nobility, as our fields doth rot and our offspring doth still perish. Aye, much sorrow awaiteth us humble peasants, but nay in this tavern. This tavern, it be a monument of all that is righteous in a troubled world. The dames doth rejoice, the libations floweth freely, and the fare overfloweth in abundance.
