"I think anything that comes out of a camera is alright.." Andy loved anything and everything. He's even said himself that he loves boring things. Thats why you see his screenprints of campbells cans and bananas. Most people didn't get it but Andy just had to document everything he liked in some way, be it movies or prints.
I don't think he's being 'pretentious' at all, he's just obliterating stupid, bland questions with sarcastic answers. I find it hilarious. Paul Morrissey is funny too, but he gives up the act by laughing so much. Andy manages to keep himself together.
I like how he avoids talking seriously, only the coolest people do that during interviews lol and yeah they used to do speed a lot so they're probably pretty wired..
It is like watching Batman's villains encampment. Riddler, Joker, Penguin each had a place to plan and prepare their villainous adventures. Here you are looking into Warhol's cave where he prepared his art platform on which to launch a visual assault on to the masses.
@dontxtalk andy is renowned for this; he wasn't actually being pretentious or 'too cool for school', his personality was just naturally very offbeat and introverted - he was often mistaken for being deliberately self important and aloof. he was actually bedridden and isolated for much of his childhood, and he cited this period as important for his personality development. interestingly chorea was a complication of his illnesses - side effects being severe twitching and pigment blotchiness.

Warhol was not pretentious, he was just enigmatic thats why he would say something vague and ambiguous. leaving people with the impression that something was profound behind the things he said. If you notice he doesn't talk about his work, he often lets others interpreted it for themselves.
In the same way that an empty box can be enigmatic if nobody realizes it's empty. Warhol was avant-garde and his art depicted contemporary culture in groundbreaking and innovative ways, but he was still dim.

AW made ART into a celebrity interest, and vice-versa. Thanks to him, an Impressionist or Surrealist sells for $20million today. Before AW, what was the highest price paid for a Van Gogh or Manet in terms of today?
@Nmbrz No, it comes as a result of the genius of Andy Warhol and the contrast between people who do get it and people who don't get it. How could something be 'special to you' if it weren't for it 'not being special to others'? Day and night contrast one another, they aren't at the 'expense' of one another. That special feeling isn't the end of the world or anything...I think you may be taking my comment a bit too seriously.
No I have the small sketch of the Campbell's Soup can on the torn out bookpage I purchased from Paul Warhola ,Andy's elder brother...if you want it Bron please email me! Soo...as many peeps want it...

@Tvor1128 I think most people would assume so, or think that, but look at from a situational and time period perspective. Back then, no one thought that "design" for everything from tomato soup cans to band tour posters could be art... Now it's an entire artistic design field, sure he didn't do anything that could be compared to the "classics," but he still changed the perception or the way we think of art... I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just saying, think of it from another view point.
@CamilleBowie1970 i think that andy was good looking in the 60s but after the assasination attempt, his health and aspect started to have serious problems
I don't think its because they're "too cool for school" while they probably do think that, its probably more the case that they're high on heroine and cocaine in this interview XD But I do agree with you as well, just boring, but very inspirational for the artistic culture of that period. gotta give him a cookie for that
and what have you done lately? with that attitude, odds are you'll die just like any other human being without an ounce of belief or courage within you. Gutless human beings are always inspiring
he doesn't say one thing that proves he is intelligent, in this interview or any other, yet because art snob wannabees have continued the myth that he was a genius for pissing on copper and calling it art, you will have comments on his youtube videos for all times, saying how smart he was in the vid. he twitches his head trying to look cool just like thom yorke has fake verbal tics and makes clicking sounds while he talks. its pathetic what some people do to seem different.
Who cares? That's probably what Andy thought. Do we have manuscripts about what Michelangelo THOUGH of David or the Sistine Chapel...no, of course we don"t...so Warhol just thought maybe let everybody else talk and talk and talk in a new media age....simple as that

i love how vague he is and the fact he gives absolutely nothing away
he is so spectacularly vague. And yet so amazingly intelligent at the same. It takes a genius to be able to say so little.

Wow Nico talks just like she sings COLD, DARK and MYSTERIOUS.
He's trying to mess with the cameraman. He moves his head so the camera wont be able to focus on him.
He's tripping out or acting eccentric.

Taking drugs, wearing black, and being in the same room with Nico is cool. It would be hard for me to say anything bad about this. This is great.

actually andy Warhol was very smart he only played dumb in interviews
@Sun Looper Hey jew, you will identify with denial. Capisce?
@manuel gonzalez RTS: addressee not known
he was far from dumb you losers he was a very astute businessman, plus he wasnt a hipster and wasnt into drugs at all.
Andy was acting like Andy the rest of the group was just copying his behaviour

He was messing with the cameraman, and by moving his head so swiftly the camera wouldn't focus on him.
Speed
It's magic! I’m a French fan of Andy Warhol, I sing his life and his death "Warhol’s Words", played on my channel!
The more he messed with them, the more they wanted him.
He would only take speed while he fed his crew any drug they wanted while he made them make his art for him, basically.
