Thank you so much! You have helped me remember string shapes that I had forgotten I knew once upon a time ago. Now I can teach the grandkids some of my childhood, long car drive games!
I teach music at a preschool. I threw this trick into my lessons, and the kids just loved it! It may not matter with the yarn you're using, but with other types of string it's helpful to position the knot at the start of the trick. I have found that if you start with the knot in the lower half of the string on the left hand side, it doesn't interfer with the making of the figure or it's action down the string. Also, it's not necessary to reach into the triangle to pick up those two strings with the first two fingers. You can just reach down and pick them up anywhere. Makes that part a little easier. ;-) It's fun to figure out how to reverse this trick, so that the dog runs from left to right. Thanks for the video!
Thank you sooo much! I'm going to teach my students - I've wanted to do it for a while, but I couldn't remember how to do them - we spent so many hours enjoying this as children --thank you!
Thank you! It took me around an hour (I have a lot of spare time) but, I finally did it! My advice to others is to just keep trying until you get it! 😁
I think you're an excellent teacher!! This one is tricky indeed, but I got it eventually! Please - if you know the "eyes" or "heart", please share!! I'm addicted to string figures now! :)
This is the one I can’t seem to do! I can’t get the part at around 3:50ish. Every time I need to let the top string of each thumb go it never looks like hers! 😩
A little tip is is to hold onto the string right in front of the thumb and then wiggle your thumbs while holding on. Once you get the string of both thumb then hook back on to the remaining string. I would suggest this since it’s working for me when I did it like this and it makes it a lot easier.
Wow, I didn't even notice how late I stayed up learning to do this. But the dog is so cute and is definitely worth figuring out! Thank you for this video, I can't wait to show my sister this tommorow morning. :)
It took time and patience, but I can finally do it. And with a good speed too, so my friends are in awe of the complex moves but I am like nah, this is as easy as alphabets.
Thank you for posting all of these fun and intuitive string tricks! They have become one of my favorite pastimes. Could you by any chance post a video on a string trick illustrating the steps of the mitotic cell division? We have learned this in biology class, and I wish to perform it for the class. I got the idea from a Japanese professor who used string tricks to teach cell division for his students. However, I am unable to find the tutorial anywhere. Plus, your style of teaching would make it easier and clearer to learn. Thanks:)
Thanks I really wanted to do it but the video I found was not good for me because it didn't talk so thank you for teaching me how to do this I enjoyed this video very much I also love your other videos very much I hope you make more bye bye
You are so awesome. Just plain awesome. Extremely awesome! You inspired me to make up one of my own string figures! Thanks for going through a second time in the video. It really help me get this down. This is probably my favorite string figure, beside the rabbit (which I learned from your video, too!). :D
I have tried many times for the past four or five days, but I JUST CAN'T GET IT!!!! I know you explain it VERY well, thank you, and I've seen the whole video SO much, I have memorized the whole process. yet, I CAN NOT do it! The most difficult part for me is grabbing the triangle with your index and middle finger. It is also hard to slip the first string off your right thumb, but the second string on your left. please help!
Yay, I did it!!! Don't worry, those of you who don't get it now, just keep trying, maybe watch the video one or two more times. It will make sense, I promise😄😄😊
I can't really find the triangle... I'm not using yarn I'm using this tougher rainbow-colored cat's cradle string. Is that why? (The tough part, not the rainbow-colored part.) I looked at how the triangle was formed in your video and used those strings and distorted it into a blobby shape so I can slide my fingers in. I tried multiple times so either I did it wrong each time or I did it right. Except then the dog is smooshed. I can't make it out at all (I can still slide it though, yay for that!). And when I try to tug it back to slide it again it gets stuck. Any tips? Should I just try getting yarn somewhere? Are big hands needed or something? But thanks for explaining it so well!
You can also make it a running cat which actually looks better! To do this, at the difficult part just make sure you decrease the size of the ears by pulling some strings (difficult to explain) and then at the end the body is a tad longer and so is the tail. It makes quite a nice cat :o)
What type of string do you use for making these string figures?I tried using knitting wool but it hurts between the fingers. All your videos are amazing and I have watched almost all of them.
It's just a very inexpensive plain yarn for knitting, nothing fancy. I don't think it's wool. It probably cost less than $2 for a whole big ball of it.
I did it, but when I wanna open and untangle the string into the initial loop it ties itself into a complex knot - which part should I tug on when untangling
Hello MomsMinivian! I love your wire figures!!! Thank you! Please tell me which wire, or rope you use? Tried it with twine, wool and some other places, but none is as your! Gratitude!
Hey, my dog does not form any ears or a tail, I have tried it 30 times but the ears get tangled up and look messy, also, he always gets only one leg. Can you help me?
I can't do it I tryed so many times I lost track and get so annoyed so I gave up and tried the one were you cut of your fingers but all your videos are great.
+monelle basically you can see the gap beetween the tail and the ear. let go of your left hand but dont pull, put you fingers from your left hand in that gap, let go of your right hand then pull in that gap. sorry if this makes no sense!
Yess, learn, learn, learn, and? I can do dis!

I have a permanant knot in my yarn thanks for that
Where can I get the string? Do you tie both ends together of a straight string of yarn?
That's what I did 😂
+Alyssa Rogers yeA THats it really
You can use any string , yarn or wool
I did it, but when I wanna open and untangle the string into the initial loop it ties itself into a complex knot - which part should I tug on when untangling
I had alot of fun, LOVE YOUR IDEA, !
You explained it very well
Can you make dragons.?
