  • The Koreshan Unity has been called "one of the most bizarre" communal utopias developed in the 19th century. Historians and decedents tell the story of the believers who established their settlement in the rugged wilderness of Estero, Florida, under the leadership of a charismatic, and controversial, physician.
The sunshine state has a rich and colorful history. For hundreds of years the state has attracted dreamers, opportunists, inventors and fortune-seekers. WGCU's Untold Stories aims to preserve the history of Southwest Florida communities.

I've lived in SWF for 14 years and I had driven by the park dozens of times and never knew what it was. Often wondered if it had anything to do with David Karesh, but then also wondered why anyone would make a park to honor _that guy?_ Then I did a field trip there for some people and walked around the place and was totally amazed at its history. The nostalgia is palpable.

What's mine, and what is yours, doesn't belong to either one of us, we are merely here to take care of it. We take nothing with us. Best to pick the man up out of the muddy puddle, rather than push him down deeper with fancier boots.

Interesting I was told a very different story of how his body was dealt with by multiple old timers at the park. They said his body was brought out to fort Myers beach to be resurrected.. but a hurricane or tropical storms came and took the body away. And that headstone is just a headstone there at the park…. They also said he was a womanizer and had a group of women that handled everything for him… also he was not liked by neighboring fort Myers

@@CharlesNauck actually the worship of Jehovah is the oldest religion. It goes back to the first human family. True Christians still worship Jehovah, through His Son Jesus. Hinduism has no future to offer me.
