Everytime I watch an older Loopstation battle it hits me again. It's so crazy how much looping has grown, from a way to just be 3 or 4 beatboxers in one to the German championship 2022
I can never say it truly has grown that much, because beardyman was on a whole other level than all these guys way before this. His glastonbury arcadia stage sets from like over 10 years ago, still the craziest stuff i've ever seen in my life

That loop station is an older model.
The ones now can do lot more. And the more you use it. The more you find what it's capable of doing.
It is an instrument and you learn to play it. Great bit of gear.
The OG 505 is still the dopest looper out there...a lot of the improvements they have tried to make in V2 haven't really made it better...in fact some of the settings they have added make it inferiar to the first model...i ended up sending mine back and sticking with the first one because some changes result in beat timing issues...its a pain in the arse for live shows...the only way around it is to use it as if its the first model meaning all the new extra bells and whistles are useless and a waste...but saying that im not a looper expert..thats just my own experience 😁

This is back in the day when looping was quite new and people where only just beginning to fully explore the capacity of the equipment and it’s capabilities.
Was a much more pure and simpler version of looping and a lot was made up on the spot or done off the cuff as more of a proper battle and reaction to the other artists routine - whereas nowadays they guys know a lot of the capabilities of the technology and have prepared songs and routines they perform

I believe slizzer was in the 2022 German beatbox championship you should start at the quarter finals in loop and work your way up, it'll give you a good taste of what's to come in gbb this year
When you get down to it, identifying so-called "pure" freestyling is a fool's errand. Nothing, or at least almost nothing is "pure" in the sense that you can disconnect it entirely from yourself or the world. Also, comparing freestyling lyrics to freestyling music is not a problem since both are languages. When you freestyle lyrics, you have this experience to draw from and what is experience if not the sum of all your writing and thinking that you did in your previous tracks? The musician that is freestyling does the same thing except his words are notes. Then you might think "well, its impossible to remember everything you wrote" and that would be true. That is why patterns are important, this is what we remember, this is what experience gives us.
This was the same year as MB14 vs Saro. If this was a race, consider this battle as a qualifying round. MB14 did have issues with that loopstation that went unresolved.

The beatbox community is a small community. Sometime I feel like the judges are biased because of their personal relationship with some beatboxers. There's no way that MB14 didn't win by a landslide. The only reason is I suspect (but I may be wrong) that some judges are Slizzer's buddies.
