14:47 Incredible disrespect on the part of D-low. B-art had just gotten hair plugs, so taking his hat was even more disrespectful than it would normally be. That said, It ended up becoming a running joke between them.
Seen a lot of American reactions that get really hacked off by the whole hat thing, Dlow is UK and a bit of windup and banter is part of the culture over here.
Disrespect would have been the last thing on his mind, they have a lot of respect for each other .. was all in good humour.

So there are rules about no touching but I’m pretty sure this was the first time someone touched someone else at a GBB so they weren’t really ready to just disqualify him for that since it never happened before. This also happened at GBB 2021 where Zekka hit colaps’s chest with his hand and there was controversy about that as well
nah zekka didn’t hit colaps chest. zekka grabbed colaps face, it was footboxg that accidentally hit river in the chest.

@@XSigmaWolfX True but the problem (allegedly) was that B-art had a hair transplant, so he was wearing a hat because he was a little self-conscious and apparently D-Low moving the hat like that caused some pain for B-art and could have messed up the transplant. So although I understand they get a little worked up on stage, they aren't children and should keep their hands to themselves.

Start with the seeding round video and then watch the battles to get a real feel for some of the routines and counters, really puts a lot more meat on the bone 👍

I know you guys dig D-Low, trust me, you'll *REALLY* enjoy the video "D-low | Winner's Compilation | SBX KICKBACK BATTLE 2021". This one was an online battle, and the video plays like an Omegle Bars video b/c it is made up of each of D-Low's 4 rounds. If you search for it, you'll see many other reaction channels that react to the entire video, and the views follow them. It really showcases D-Low's talents, and it's a D-Low fan favorite.
*NOTE 1*: there is a round where D-Low starts off saying "but I'm *also* a looper..."; this is actually a battle flex, because even though it APPEARS that he's using a loopstation (which would be illegal), he's genuinely managing several polyrhythms at once.
*NOTE 2*: D-Low addresses the "hat situation" in this video.
Need to react to the battles individually personally because D-Lows one of his best assets are his counters which they will completely miss the context if they watch the compilation.
I've been suggesting and recommending this for time, but I'd suggest NOT to watch the compilation video, it doesn't give you a true context and understanding of the complexity of the routines and counters. You have to watch this tournament round for round. I'd start with the seeding round video - which is outstanding innits own right, and then watch each individual rounds / battles. It would make for some dope content and reactions and would certainly give a better understanding of what's going on and why. 👌
@jimkhana007 I appreciate your point of view, and agree for those people that are familiar with modern beatboxing that have an ear that understands what they're hearing. I have a tremendous amount of respect for all of the artists and the work that goes into a tournament.
The specific recommendation for D-Lows' Winners Compilation is because every one of his rounds has a melodic aspect to it that bridges the gap between an untrained ear and more complex routines. In essence, that compilation stands apart as a "fast track" to connecting new people to the genre and gradually over 13 minutes always building in energy, keeping people engaged, as well as complexity, which genuinely helps train their ear. The full competition start to finish has lulls in the energy because its not planned out start to finish. New listeners are the hardest to bring in and maintain their attention and interest - something DLows Winners Compilation does very, very well.

@jimkhana007 i was literally just in a stream with Justin from Beatbox International and Stitch about an hour ago, and they were saying the exact same thing I am, but even moreso. You're welcome to your opinion, but I'm not just making this up. Thats great if the people around you are more receptive to beatboxing; that sounds like a young demographic, and its good to hear. Unfortunately, that outlook isn't as common with other demographics.
Nobody's saying dont go back and listen to full battles if/when the interst is there. The DLow Winner's compilation specifically from the SBX Kickback Battle 2021 is genuinely like a cohesive and well-thought out ALBUM, and has massive replay value. It appeals to the general public, round after round. The worst things you can do when exposing new music to someone are to miss the mark, make them bored, or overwhelm them.

The reason D-low came out swinging is bc these 2 are titans in beatboxing, B-art will slaughter you in a battle if you aren't full tilt, also the hype is bc those are usually drum n bass or some other known song, or something that they've done in the past

I personally believe that everyone can have bad days and good days as well, and it's more of a percentage in terms of level vs the whole or an ideal skill set, completely respect your opinion though

The hat thing was a big controversy, they aren't allow to touch the other competitors. But lucky they all came to agreement there was no ill intent. They are all friends outside of competition. Classic Dlow is to take the other person's sound in his answer as a freestyle and do it cleaner and in perfect time.

Bart is insane, I seriously think he had a chance winning gbb during his peak, but dang, he seems to to lose his breath pretty quick pretty often, probably because his bass or his signature fry voice requires a lot of strength in the vocal chords.
Well it's actually intense, but you know what, Colaps vs Zekka is the one i think most disrespectful, cause Zekka even grab Colaps in the neck. Hope you check that out in the near future.

Now when you finish GBB 2019 and 2021 I think you should react to the full SBX Kickback. Lot of crazy battles in this competition, especially the rematch Dlow vs Bart.

Try just holding a hum out of your nose, and then make sounds in your mouth that use a vacuum or pressure.
Vacuum sounds: Basic tongue click that everyone ever does. The vacuum is created between your tongue and roof of mouth before the tongue releases and clacks on the bottom of your mouth. Mess around with different ways you can make vacuums in your mouth without using breath
Pressure sounds: Make a "p" sound without breath. Just build up pressure with your tongue and then open your mouth like you're making the "p" sound, but do it without breath.
**IMPORTANT**
The reason why you should practice those while humming an unbroken tone out your nose is because you're keeping your breath occupied and ensuring that the sounds of your mouth aren't using breath. These are the sounds that overlap with humming/bass/inward bass/breath focused sounds

Beatboxes have 2 channels, nose and mouth and then sometimes they can use techniques to get a third.
For d-low he was definitely doing a nose humm for the melody, and then his mouth for the ducks that can indeed be done completely at the same time.
It's slightly more than that too. D-Low frequently uses his teeth for clicks and his cheeks for his duck/cat noise, which leaves everything else free to continue doing beats and basses.

you are correct about inward sounds and outward sounds. You can do a K snare inwards or outwards, lip rolls inwards and outwards, etc.

You should react to the battles of the SBX loop station KBB21. You have to start in the quarter finals between Mirsa vs KBA 1 and 2 (the rounds are divided into two parts so they are two videos). Then continue with the others. This competition was one of the best of the pandemic. You won't regret it😁
I'm not sure how close B-Art and D-Low are personally, but B-Art did recently do a video conversion with Maddox where he mentioned that he recently had hair plugs done before that performance, and D-Low messing with his hat really hurt. His deminer during the interview was restrained, but you could tell he didn't appreciate it. Not sure if the two ever resolved the issue, but it didn't feel like they have. I absolutely love D-Low, and think he IS the GOAT, but I agree with several other beatboxers who think he should have been disqualified for that.
Can't do it in the finals, when you see Dlow bodied him. Even BART would say that Dlow deserves a win I think. I think it's a good warning for next GBBS
100% you are not allowed to do what D-Low did. But its down to the person who got touched physically to say if its allowed or not. B-art was asked if he was okay with it after the battle by Swiss and he said its fine as they were friends. But yeah, the fact that B-art had a hair transplant recently before the battle makes it look way worse in hindsight!

From what I know, the no touching rule still exists.
If the touched person says it's okay tho, then it won't be judged. If he says it's not, then the touching person will be disqualified.
There are even more extreme examples like Show-Go vs Bataco in GBB18 and Zekka vs Colaps in GBB21.
Most of the participants are cool with each other and oftentimes friends. I don't recall any battle where this was a problem
if you guys want to react to someone with a really crazy pocket of sounds, go look up Dilip, all the way back from the SBX Camp Student Solo Battle 2019 to now, he is absolutely insane and you wont hear anyone like him. you won't regret it. His gbb 2023 solo wildcard is a must watch but id save that one for last since it's an improvement from the camp set

If you listen even closer on dlows first round it’s actually 3 sounds not 2 at once
I mean *technically* what dlow did is against the rules, on top of that bart had recently had surgery on his head and was trying to cover up the scar and dlow messing with a semi recent wound like that is really not okay, although dlow did not know it at the time and these two are good friends that have battled many times over the years. I'm pretty sure dlow has apologised aswell but I'm not sure, it has been a while xd.
The general consensus is that bart could have gotten dlow disqualified if he wanted to but he didnt.

Unfortunately I don’t think you’ll be able to watch the final from this year, all content that included the person he was battling against was removed due to various controversy’s.
The only way I think you can see it is if you watch his winners compilation video which will show his seeding round, battle with collaps, battle with B-Art and then his finals performance 👍

The hat thing was actually pretty controversial and as much as I love D-Low and think he won this battle, he should've been DQ'd. I ended up hearing later that this wasn't that long after B-Art had hair transplant surgery and that only made the hat thing worse because it could've fucked with his scalp but I think it all ended up being fine. Either way, I always felt like hands off is the best policy.
So yeah this was taboo as hell. 😂 even for a battle. It’s a rule that you can’t touch the competitors. luckily b-art is a chill dude. they’ll reference it in later battles too (the kickback battles for example).
