Thanks so much for your question! With my left hand, you definitely want to play the roots of the chord at the very bottom, and then above that you can experiment. I like to use 5ths and octaves, only because 3rds sound rather muddy in the low bass range. As long as you use chord tones, you can't go wrong, and then you can adjust to taste!
