I attend the city of Cambridge with a sign saying "why aren't you vegan" hoping to strike up a debate on Veganism. A woman and a younger man stop by, I have a short debate with the man and the woman ends up sitting down with me. I begin to show her what she consumes on a daily basis, and her reaction was unlike any i've seen before....

Gorillas are herbivorous, predominantly ground-dwelling great apes that inhabit the tropical forests of equatorial Africa. The genus Gorilla is divided into two species: the eastern gorilla and the western gorilla, and either four or five subspecies. The DNA of gorillas is highly similar to that of humans, from 95 to 99% depending on what is included, and they are the next closest living relatives to humans after chimpanzees and bonobos.

Well isn’t she just the loveliest human being! Ida! Her heart is big, and she’s super smart…when she aligns her actions and goes vegan, she’ll really be on another level.
That's funny, you thinking shed smart because you liked her reaction to everything lol
@@shaneboxhall1614 or perhaps because she had thought about the issues, done her own research, watched documentaries, already had an understanding of things like accumulations of toxins, her willingness to question her own beliefs and understanding, her curiosity and possibly most importantly the fact she was open to learn new things. That puts he above most closed minded people i find myself speaking too.
@@shaneboxhall1614 what f@cken shed ? ya loser ... now that's funny 🤓
@@shaneboxhall1614 cope
@@shaneboxhall1614 kinda funny how you have over 1k comments on this channel alone talking about how "veganism is evil"

Humanizing a fckin fish! Why not humanize a fcukin stickle back or a fly of blue bottle?!he's a crank!
@@DrMontague We may be different in many ways, but we’re also the same in some very important aspects. We all feel and avoid pain, we all have a subject experiencing our lives inside us, we all want to live. Animals, no matter how small or different that us, deserve to have a life without being systematically exploited and killed for their bodies and for someone else’s profit and enjoyment.
@@Evelyn-nz4mp A fly or a blue bottle also has a right to live. Try swatting one and it will try to avoid being killed. The problem you have is that you imagine you're the fly ,the blue bottle or animal. If a lion kills a Zeba your the type of person who puts your brain in the Lion's or Zebras head. Animals merely have survival instinct, I have never come across an animal that has thoughts feelings or emotions. If you humanize the lion then the lion would have human consciousness and know it is killing the Zebra, if you humanize the Zebra then the Zebra would plead to the Lion not to kill it. This is how silly the whole show becomes. I seen rent a kill setting rat traps, are they murdering rats. The whole thing is a joke.
@@DrMontague well there’s definitely a lot to unpack here, so my response is pretty long.
1. There’s definitely a debate in the vegan community about some types of creatures (some insects, oysters, scallops, ect) and their level of sentience. There are some folks who consider themselves vegan but eat the creatures I listed, and I can see the reasoning. I personally don’t eat them, but I don’t engage with that debate much because it’s hard to figure out exactly how aware those creatures are. I like to focus on the creatures we know have subjective experiences, feel pain, and avoid suffering/want to live. That’s all land animals and fish (there are many studies showing that fish react to and avoid pain and suffering)
2. Morality is different in survival situations. Someone could morally justify a lot of normally immoral acts if it’s a matter of life and death. This could include eating another human if necessary. Just because we could understand why someone could do that if they were stuck on an island and needed to survive doesn’t mean they would be justified in doing so just because they liked the taste. Animals are in survival situations. Lions are carnivores and need meat to live, but humans don’t. We can get what we need to survive from plants, so I believe killing an animal or paying for an animal to be killed when there are other options is wrong. Killing a sentient being just because you think they taste good shouldn’t sit right with people. We wouldn’t allow someone to breed a dog, keep them is unsanitary and traumatic conditions only barely kept alive through antibiotics, and then kill them at 4 years only because someone likes how they taste. We would like at that person as a sociopath, but we allow this to happen to billions of other animals every year (trillions including fish)
3. I have met many, many animals who clearly show emotions, and there are numerous studies showing this. My dog has her own personality, she has her own likes and dislikes that are not apparent in every dog, and she remembers people who weren’t nice to her and avoids them and others who look similar. Dogs who were abused show clear signs of trauma. I worked for an animal shelter where dogs would pee in fear if approached to quickly, hide, whimper, or get defensive/aggressive. They clearly feel emotion, remember past trauma, and do what they can to avoid future trauma. I’ve also seen documentaries about animal sanctuaries for animals rescued from the animal agricultural industry. Mother cows who have their calfs taken away from them so they can produce milk show extreme attachment issues after losing their children over and over. They chase after the trucks that have their calfs and cry out for them for days afterwards. One mother cow hid her baby from the sanctuary owners for three months so they wouldn’t take her baby away. Please try to challenge your assumption that animals don’t have thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Not only is that not supported at all by research, but spending time with them will show you how incorrect that is.
I recommend watching “Dominon” on RUclips to see what you’re paying for. What we’re doing to animals is horrific, unnatural, and cruel. It’s important to challenge our beliefs when others are suffering because of our choices. I genuinely feel that you would think differently after seeing what the animal agricultural industry is hiding from you.
@@Evelyn-nz4mp I know what abuses that happen in certain abattoirs/ slaughter houses. I am certainly not ignorant. My main argument is that it is wrong to humanize animals. Let me give you a scenario. A house is in fire. You have the choice to either save a human baby or say your pet dog. from dying. Which one would you save? Personally I would save the human baby, the dog would mean absolutely nothing to me.
“Do you eat meat to keep the numbers down ?” . Nice one Joey 😂
Yes that was good :)
we have to breed them so... so... so they dont die out as well!!
Haha that was brilliant 🤩
Even natural carnivores are there to do so
We as humans can survive without meat
"Do you eat meat to keep the numbers down?" OMG Joey, that's gotta be one of your BEST zingers!

She’s so awesome, hope she goes vegan, hope she also makes other people vegan 🌱
I am sure she will, and also she will do her part to help others. She was amazed to think yes vegan is cheap. And she could not bear looking at the animals on those farms, and slaughter places. Realy she already was a vegan who just needed a hand. Joey came at just the right time.
Love how many questions she asks and how thoughtful she is, but also how willing she is to say "I don't know much about this, can you explain?". You can tell that she's really listening and opening her mind to a new perspective.
It's so refreshing to see someone so open minded ☺️ no defense barrier, open communication, wanting to know more etc.

Great conversation. What a joy to see such a curious and open minded young interviewee. And when she said, "This is wicked" she didn't mean it in the more modern sense, but in the way my mother would have referred to someone's behaviour as wicked. Which, absolutely, is what the animal agriculture industry is.
Yes, and with definitions like, "evil or morally wrong, disgustingly unpleasant, vile, sinful", it's an extremely accurate word to use.
Yes,but she's still not willing to be vegan.
What a lovely intelligent lady.😊🌱
She is a wonderful person, very intelligent and open-minded. It was delightful to witness her reactions. Thanks!
Open, intelligent and compassionate people like this woman are why your work will always find fertile ground. I'm sure she'll make the change!

nope. she will eat meat. she said veganism was expensive, and joey admitted vegan fake meat is unhealthy.
Her reactions didn't seem genuine to me for some reason..
This is one of my favorite conversations that Joey has had. I love how open she was to receiving new information and hearing his perspective. She asked many great questions, which is an excellent way to learn.
Wow this woman is super open minded and truly listening to Joey. Great conversation 👌
She has a good heart clearly.
Wow, this person was refreshingly honest and compassionate
My tip as an Indian to all Western vegans: Please do consider adding daals (i.e. lentils like toor daal, moong daal, masoor daal, urad daal, chana daal; beans like raajma; legumes like chhole) into your meals!
LOVE IT! I am vegetarian, and only eat once a day, at nighttime. Daal satisfies me like few other foods do. Lentils are very special. Lately I've been cooking a mix with yellow, red, another kind, and also much beans moong... and for super-health and energy there is also the lovely plant that gives us khas-khas 🌷
I have my own vegan version of Halva yummers
@@nitai154 I love Halva, yummers indeed😋but Halva is already vegan, no? I used to kind of make my own "loose/flowy" halva, by getting Tahini at the store, and mixing it with honey or maple syrup. Honey of course can be avoided in favor of a sugar source that is more vegan. Actually the bee thing is kind of a trip... all of our plant foods rely on the hard work of the bees... but is it slavery if they do it to themselves? Do they have options??? 🤯anyway... Halva is delicious💖
they are so good !
you missed maa ki daal 😏
Vegan on a budget:
1. Morning: OATS + fruits (apples, berries or bananas) + dates + CHIA SEEDS
2. Lunch: Vegan burritos (Chickpeas + rice + avocado + any vegetables + cilantro sauce) OR Vegan bolognesa (Soja with tomato sauce) with a SALAD
3. Dinner: Chickpeas salad with fruit and vegetables or BEANS BURGUERS
TIPS:
*Always stick a carrot in your salad to get your vitamin A.
*Always put chia seeds in your morning oats
*CIlantro sauce with cashews, lime juice and dates IS THE BEST SHIT I`VE EVER TRIED!
🤮
And don't get burned on the chia seeds. They don't need to be expensive, but some sellers give them a super-food mark-up. Sometimes you literally only need to check a different shelf in the same shop.
That sauce does sound good. We call 'cilantro' 'coriander' here in the UK.
But meat eaters don't consider the health cost of meat eating when they argue for is vegan cheap...guys what about the fat and cholestrol you get from meat and meat is one among the leading cause of heart diseases
This video was amazing, because for the first time in my life somebody reacts reasonably on the Vegan topic. I've watched thousands of talks and participated in some on the street and facebook, and that is the first human being that has a proper reaction: "I want to know more about what is going on. Why are you Vegan? Show me what is happening. I want to know!" And it talks good for her, but it doesn't talk very good for humanity. I thought that everybody would react this way. But I was wrong! I was wrong about human beings!
Excellent interaction, how refreshing to see and hear someone that has such an open mind and open heart, wanting to educate herself.
Showing actual footage of animals suffering and dying on behalf of a meat eater is powerful, no normal compassionate person should be able to continue paying someone to abuse and murder innocent sentient beings on their behalf so they could have something to eat when they could easily choose something else to eat.
Unless it's a survival situation there is no moral justification for not being vegan !
A lot of these debates are like a broken record. I watch them all, but I can see how Joey is so quick to respond, he’s had plenty of practice with the same bloody arguments lol. I aspire to be like you Joey ❤️
Edit: I feel like she really cared. I wanna give her a hug 🥺

She was cool and open minded! More people should be like her...
So good to see someone ask questions and actually WANT to learn. That's so unusual nowadays
Never thought the day would come where a civil conversation could be had where they came with an open mind and were eager to learn.
If you could get rid of the militant vegans you would see many more conversations like this
It could not have been better if it was staged. She was so open to learning, it was a pleasure to see a young person like this. Maybe, just maybe there is hope for humanity.
@@x-latetv-x6816 "militant" vegans don't exist- passionate vegans do. And (in my opinion) violent vegans aren't following their own moral standards.
Of course, all vegans have different opinions on what actions need to be taken to achieve animal liberation. I suppose i can't judge another, i don't know what they're feeling.
@@V__Vahaa so confrontational vegans don't exist 😂

People often think that in order to be vegan you just need to be compassionate. But I would argue that having discipline, intelligence and the ability to be rational are equally necessary. A lot of non vegans are compassionate, they dislike watching animals suffer, they love their pets and the animals they encounter and yet their lack of self control, cognitive dissonance and irrational nature gets the best of them.
This woman is a perfect example of how each of those characteristics play a role when one begins their journey to veganism. She eats animals herself, but when met with the facts she doesn't get defensive but inquisitive. She's actually taking into consideration the act itself and what that entails. Beautiful conversation, Joey!
We, ve all been manipulated for thousands of years. No matter how smart you are, as long as they hide the truth from us, it's not easy to realize what's wrong with this world.
Beautiful conversation, Joey! Thank you!!

The random baby crying in the background while discussing calf separation was painful. Gave me goosebumps. 😞Ida was so lovely and kind. I'm sure she'll make the switch. Good job Joey!
She is awesome. Loved the calm inquisitive nature. Asked the right questions, was honest and no b.s. I wish more carnists were like that.
All the chemicals and drugs injected into the animals do not cook down. And if "suffering" was an ingredient it'd be listed first on the meat, dairy & egg packages.

What a woman. Open, intelligent and asking questions out of interest and a will to learn. So refreshing! Well done Joey; you are slowly getting there - keep going, you're a Saint!
I love how she became the interviewer. She took the mic and started asking so many questions. I think she may end up an animal activist herself.
hahah this is awesome. i love how she kind of just flipped it and interviewed you
I think this conversation was purely productive and amazing to watch the blossoming bud of her conscious consumerism. If people do not like the marketed vegan cheese one can always make their own. It’s a messy yet fun experience to do so.
What a lovely lady. Such a sweetheart. I've met a few people like her during outreach, but it's not super common that people are this curious and open.
I live a modest life I am not rich. I live in Ontario Canada which means we have long cold winters with lots of snow and I have been vegan for 10 yrs no problem. I also run a boxing , Muay Thai gym so I am not weak and starving! Being vegan is not hard it’s just different.
That's great. One day it will be "different" to eat corpses and steal milk & eggs from other animals.
