I've watched and listened to many, many, many guitarists from all genres. Reg is at the absolute pinnacle of the heap. There are a few up there for sure but his command of the instrument along with his knowledge of jazz harmonization is just phenomenal. Not sure how and where he got his chops and education but man can he play.
I love this! It's great to find someone that moves through a lesson fast. If you can't handle it, click on the gear and slow the speed down 50%! Great Lessons, love them. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!!!!!
So much to learn from you. Thanks. By hitting pause and listening, looking, it's all accessible. To the critics, Ya got to pay your dues if you want to play the blues, etc...
The thing people aren't getting is this is not an introductory tutorial video. With some experience, these videos are great for new ideas, and thereby the fast pace helps keep ideas moving and already knowing the chord shapes makes it easy to follow.
keep coming back to this vid. Its gorgeous. Like a musical fruit smoothie. For the nay sayers, I have every chord Reg plays on a wallchart. 6,5 and 4 chords. No magic tricks here. its just the timing which is beautiful.
HI 8 Mr Reg 523..! I 'm just discover your channel and now it's one hour i play on your videos for practicing..I want to thank you VERY ..VERY MUCH !YOU HAVE A HUDGE GROOVE WOAHHHHHHHH! what a pleasure to hear you..Mister .(. a Funky guitarist from France..) thank's for helping musicians..
hitch up yo head and git wid dis, love the way he wades straight in and leaves the guffing and puffing to others, there's a lifetime/lifeline here, songlines to walk... n fly
just a small tip for a beginner.(myself too) as this video titled as "Groove" ,although a lot of things are going on, a simple way to listen or view this would be watching his Thumb. thats a huge important factor. as he is swinging notice how his thumb is hitting the bass notes then playing the chords with other fingers. try this on a single chord it doesn't matter which chords u know. try to mimick that. then apply the same movement to 12 bar blues. in future you will understand what he is doing as u progress and learn other stuffs like harmony, different chord voicings, inversions, cadences, different turnarounds etc. cheers❤️❤️
Hi R523, you are unbelievable, the greatest of all time !! That means solo and chords together. The Amazon river does not bring so much water as you bring chords on your guitar. I would stop the midnight train to listen to your solos!! So tasty! So wonderful! It inspired me a lot. Thank you for all your videos. Keep on posting, teach the musician, I'm one of them. Best regards, Öcsi Baranyi
Thanks Reg523.appreciate you sharing your gift and experience.I heard you eat an elephant one bite at a time..jazz blues is the foundation.Great lesson.Appreciate you sir.
if you can download the video, say with internet download manager, then play it back in,say, GOM player,in slow or frame by frame, you'll get a TON of INFO...hope you don't mind me sharing that, but this is just to darn good to throw away! Thank you for these BOSS GRIPS !
Steve Kormanic Yes sir you got it, The strange thing is I have 3 different computers,On one of them it won't do it for some reason but on the others no problems. But getting back to slowing em down You can do it to 99% of the videos on here,Good luck..
From time to time I come back to your clips. Idea is to learn something, but I always end up listening and enjoying the music. Thanks man. BTW, I always do learn something. I'll keep returning.
wow just stumbled across this and wow i can actually learn from this guy. its great none of the crap just straight here it is get what u can. i might not be the best jazz guy but i get this , shit now I'm babbling
thank you man. I subscribed today and I've been watching some of your videos, and I find them very very educative, its really good to have this material on internet. Thank you again for your lessons and your time, it means a lot to me. Have a good time :D
Ah man! What a feel for this music...even if I could mine down through the examples and the 'English' explanations, I don't think mere mortals could touch the feel he has. We just sit and marvel...
Hey Man!! I just discovered your videos and I love your approach and your explanation of your presentation! I’m a Professional Guitarist myself and teach also. My goal now is to make my playing more sophisticated and you are really helping me. Thanks, Paul
I know just about all those chords or do know them all................... But you have some nice arrangements ......... I will steal some of this. Thanks
Nice Playing!...I can't do it...but that's okay...What I see you're doing is showing guys who are ALREADY pros...some tips, things to think about, etc... Don't worry about the ones who want a ...'Now boys and girls...First!...we're going to... " hahaha THAT'S not what you're doing and I 'get it.'...Meanwhile...though I'm not at the level to be able to...jump in with you...I DO see some things I can pick up on...And all of this IS inspirational... So!...:)
I learned a lot from this but I had to many times freeze the video to capture the chord he was playing. if you have a lot of patience you can pick up some very useful stuff.
I agree with a lot of these comments. If it's a lesson, it's for intermediate players that want to expand. But this is not a lesson, it's sharing ideas with like wise capable advanced players. Shame, would love it if you slowed it down, picked out the chords, and helped some of us mortals.
one of those rare guys that can phrase stuff on the guitar sequentially, logically and conversationally but can't/does not with the english language. Most musicians have the opposite problem
Original jazz forum post this video came from here: www.jazzguitar.be/forum/comping-chords-chord-progressions/27145-good-examples-jazz-blues-comping-2.html#post300308
Folks take a big deep breath and listen to what he is saying and if you do not understand a syntactical definition or metaphor pause it and Google it. Remember if you don't know the syntax you can not have the conversation. On the flip side this is better than needle dropping.
The comments here about this being complicated or not basic are funny. It's not complicated and it is very basic. It just looks and sounds that way when it's put together. If you can get your head around that last statement then you're half way there. Break it down. First, get it under your fingers; bit by bit. Then the sound and muscle memory are there. Then it becomes yours like language. DO NOT feel like you need to understand everything first. That comes later and as you progress it will be necessary. But it's NOT necessary at first. Just learn it and play. Do that and it will most likely come to you.
Great playing and lots of tips for more advanced players. This is not for beginners, there are lots of alternative videos for those who don't know how to pause and replay
Hi, I got a bad headache looking at your hands! Lol .. Massive player. Really great! Is it possibile to get some kind of sheet or chords diagrams about this comping? It will help me very much. Thank you
This is my advice... the guy is really good but not for beginners... this is the way he provide free lessons and all we have to do is to accept. The chords are formed fron scales... and as long as you have the 1 4 5 in you... all you have to do is to listen and look to what he is doing and nit to what he is saying. Well... take or leave ir
also people don't realize that you can slow the speed down in the video (all videos on you tube) just click the fly-wheel icon in the bottom right-hand corner(next to the "cc" icon) which can help a great deal for learning licks/chords and so on...
elecktrick9s i totally agree......if you are smart enough to use a computer you can figure out how to capture the video and slow it down, freeze frame and study it....i love this guy......he teaches by playing and showing us how to swing.........thats what music is all about no?
You have done the profoundly supreme performance ! Would you please let me know the name of the Jazz Guitarist with the attached photo(in "Working with Rhythm changes") ? And also the title of the CD in which the guitarist performed. Would you please disclose to me the CD in which you performed because I would like to buy the CD ?
These videos of Reg's are responses to threads on the Jazzguitar.be forum and aren't meant to be lessons in the classic sense. There are many Jazz lessons and teachers on youtube if that is what you're looking for. Check out the forum and website for lessons that are more accessible.
I love that idea of using note 7 as a bottom note on chord I. I'm stealing that ;) Use an altered chord I on the last bar before going to chord IV too, i duno if you did it but too fast for me to hear it, but I think it's a beautiful sound, but these voicings are great as well, more blues stuff in the future please o3o
Reg, you are the man. Don't compromise ever. Just keep on groovin'. Some day the rest of us will catch up...or expire trying.
Seriously I could watch this all day long. Probably best lesson I’ve I ever seen. My god
I love this! It's great to find someone that moves through a lesson fast. If you can't handle it, click on the gear and slow the speed down 50%! Great Lessons, love them. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!!!!!

its just the timing which is beautiful.
Buddy also very thoroughly internalized the sound of the and functions of these voicings, but yes, tremendous time
Have been learning so much from your videos. THANK YOU !

I'm definitely no where near your level but found some use in this video to apply to my psych rock songs.

Here's requesting a Jazz Blues chord-melody vid in Bb!

like it!
Thank God RUclips has a slow down function 👍👍
The first part he is playing the root in different positions. Altered Dominant chords. I can post a video explain the name of them .
Por qué no editas un PDF y lo pones a la venta? Este vídeo es magnifico. Me pierdo y no puedo seguir bien tus dedos . Una verdadera pena.
Great playing and lots of tips for more advanced players. This is not for beginners, there are lots of alternative videos for those who don't know how to pause and replay

Fabulous, are you open for a zoom call to teach me these variations and comping ideas on a blues and minor blues jazz prog ?

what kind of guitar is that, and is that an EMG in the neck? it resonates so much, are you running it through an amp? sounds absolutely perfect
Splendid !
Suppose you have already release CD albums.
Would you please disclose your details including your appearances ?
Non-Nuc
