This song was around the time of the Civil Rights Movement. A cry for people to love one another and be prepared for the coming of the Lord.
This was the group that all three man groups back then copy their three part harmony from
Check out The Chambers Brothers version. Really nice.
Go immediately to the 60s
Not "Georgia"; "Jordan". This is a Gospel classic, straight up and simple. And it's been on my playlist for a long time. Beautiful, no matter what your spirituality thing may be.
Yes!!
You got it perfectly correct Michael
@@kalinrafaes7467 Thanks, Kalin!
Curtis Mayfield =pure genius and blinding beauty
Well played my friend well played
This is a MASTERPIECE. Curtis Mayfield is a LEGEND
Not Georgia but Jordon.
The River Jordon.
Where people were baptized.
Ready for the Gospel "train to Jordan" . . . No ticket needed, "all you need is faith...just get on board".
They did not say Georgia. They said Jordan. This is a gospel song.
Are you going to heaven or hell? Either place you won't need a ticket to get in.
In the meantime get ready.
It's the "Train to Salvation," in Jesus Christ. What a great old song. It's been covered by hundreds, if not thousands of artists in R&B, Country, and Pop music genres. Jesus loves them all!
God Bless
People Get Ready is a timeless classic-Jordan being a metaphor for Heaven. The train and key to climb aboard without a ticket is to have Faith in the Lord to guide you to Heaven as Jesus is the only Way. People need to get ready as He will return someday soon!
The song and the civil rights movement came out of the Church. We compared our struggle for freedom to the Hebrew slaves quest for freedom from Egypt.
It's spiritual. It's about getting ready for heaven. All you need is Faith to see the kingdoms throne
😂 not to Georgia but to Jordan. The Jordan River. It’s a Spiritual.
This came out in the Civil Rights era. It had hidden messages to keep us going. It was rough back then
I love this! But I'm also dying to see what you'd think of Rod Stewart's version with the legendary Jeff Beck on guitar (Official Video).
💙☮💙
My favorite.
how about a little respect for the black artists?
This is one of those great songs that are so good that it's been covered hundreds of times.
Rod Stewart did a great cover.
Try the song I’m so Proud. Harmonies are incredible.
The Impressions launched the solo careers of “The Ice Man” Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield. Mr. Mayfield is probably more responsible than anyone for what became known as “Message Music” in the 1970’s. Bob Marley paraphrased this song in his song “One Love”.
Most of the early Wailers music owes a direct debt to Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions - not just "One Love." It is he who inspired Bob Marley to put a message in his music!
Oh what a song! Rod Stewart also did an excellent version of this.
Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck. A masterpiece. The best I think. RIP Jeff🖤
I love Rod but idk about his cover
I thought that voice sounded like the great "Curtis Mayfield. Didn't you just react to a song of his in the last few days? Love that guy. He's now in Heaven.
I appreciate this music more and more everyday!🫡🇺🇸
The song's just about a revolution in spiritual understanding leading us all to a better day.
Curtis Mayfield is a true legend. so underated.
Very underrated group. Their harmonies were on another level.
Simply love it. The Chambers brothers do a great cover. Train to "Jordon". The Jordon River, as in the Gospels. Also, Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck do a SLAMMIN' cover. Thank you.
Civil Rights you guys! Martin Luther King. The march all through the south.
"Gypsy Woman", "Amen", "He Will Break Your Heart", "This Is _MY_ Country"... Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions turned out classic after classic of Chicago soul.
"He Will Break Your Heart" was sung by Jerry Butler, but I'll give you a pass since Curtis was one of the writers of the song and played guitar behind Jerry on the songs he recorded at that time.
Another classic by The Impressions was "Keep on Pushing"
The Impressions were an American doo-wop, gospel, soul & R&B group formed in 1958. The line up included Jerry Butler & Curtis Mayfield who ended up having great solo careers. "People Get Ready" was their biggest hit but some of their other hits were "For Your Precious Love", "Come Back My Love", "Gypsy Woman", "It's All Right", "Keep On Pushing" etc.
Their going down to the "Jordan" river (not Georgia) like in the Bible where Jesus was Baptized. This is a huge Spiritual, from maybe 150 years ago. Can't you hear the message in the lyrics? Get on that train to Salvation in Christ!
Thanks folks
This is about Jesus is coming back and be ready to be with him.
Talking about the train to Heaven and the only cost is Faith in the Lord....Faith in what he did pays your ticket.
I'm not a 'religious' person - but it saddens me a little that two intelligent younger people like this would be so removed from their/our cultural history that they wouldn't immediately recognize this as a gospel song and get the metaphor(s) ....
I'm most familiar with the Chambers Bros. version, which I think is super soulful!
One of my FAVORITE songs!!
Remember Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield were both part of the Impressions. Once Jerry Butler left the Impressions Curtis Mayfield wrote many of his hits.
there is also an excellent cover version by rod stewart and jeff beck thats worth a listen.
Great song… The Impressions, The Chambers Brothers, Rod Stewart… many great versions but I’m glad you’re listening to this one.
Curtis Mayfield was with the Impressions before he went solo.
This is a historical fact: This song was the unofficial theme of the civil rights movement. Dr. King himself used this song to help calm his people and focus. This song is also about going to the kingdom of heaven.
Jordan, not Georgia
A song in tune for today.
Get on the train of the Lord...
Get ready; changes a-coming!!!
You may not have grown up hearing snd singing spirituals at home or at church. Possibly your parents did. This is a pretty old song that gets covered by a lot of people. Eva Cassidy did a really good cover of it. Snd the impressions did a great version here of a classic spiritual
This was all about the CIVIL RIGHTS Movement of the 60's
Having heard this, you should listen to Bob Marley’s One Love.
They are talking about dead people going to meet your maker. And they didn 't say Georgia they said Jordan.👍
It was religious it was Jordan not Georgia.
He's saying get your life together you won't live forever we all have to pass over the river Jordan
Thank you I luv watching your reactions especially Asia on the Delfonics LaLa
I cry every time I hear this song 🎵
Gospel.
Important Civil Rights song!
Now you've got to Keep on pushing
"Train to Georgia" cute🤣🤣
No! Not going to Georgia. The song says train to JORDAN. It is a religious appeal. The song isn't a complaint BUT a promise of heaven.
Please watch "Sonny and Brownies " version. It is a much more blues and spiritual vibe.
Great cover by Jeff Beck with vocal by Rod Strewart in the mid-1980s.
This is "Old School" -- LOVE IT. Curtis Mayfield ("Freddie's Dead" - "SuperFly"
It's talking about the change in the personality and mindset of some people. The beginning of the changes brought on by the 60's Civil Rights Movement.
Now, same song, different group, they will take you to church, "The Chamber Brothers" Asia if I was married, I'd lie to my wife, but girl not to you, I'm saying listen and weep!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂Peace
Curtis Mayfield my. God we're do 👁️start. Impressions all come out church. From Chicago alone with Jerry Butler. Then Curtis group scores 2. Super Fly and Claudine. Miss u Curtis lol always 🙏❤️
If you listen to the lyrics carefully to the song people get ready it means we are living in the last days and God is about to come back and clean up the house this nation is not a great nation I don't call this America this nation is filled with nothing but greed homosexuality lost we're living in the days of Babylon Sodom and Gomorrah are wrapped up into one that's why God is coming back people get ready for God is coming back
Check out It’s Alright and You’ve Been Cheatin’ and Gypsy Woman by The Impressions. They are soul legends!
First one in today !!!! Woo Hoo! Love you two!
You rock!
A little trivia...watching you apply lipstick....whenever the Queen would apply lipstick it was a way of telling the people who cared for her......it was time to leave.
Need to bring back this kind of music - messages were about peace!!! I miss this so much.
If anyone has ever seen the HBO series the Corner, when this song plays, you just want to cry for the character. IYKYK
In 1977, Bob Marley used this song for ''One Love'' and the music of Marley is like a Medley version, but in reggae-style and the Marley's song is used to be a message of love when the Exodus album was finished.😎
The main singer is The great Curtis Mayfield. please react to Curis doing "Pusherman" or "Freddie's dead"
It doesn't say people get ready for the train to Georgia it says people get ready for the train to Jordan picking up passengers from coast to coast
Curtis Mayfield and his first break out hit, with the Impressions
This was made during the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s
Can use react to J. Walker song Shotgun and beauty is only skin deep by Temptations. Thks
I’ve never be more disappointed of my people than now. This song embodies the sentiment of people during the civil rights movement that things were going to get better. Blacks were all about getting their stuff together and moving forward. Just sad…
Curtis Mayfield..musical genius...
Jordan as in the river Jordan where the baptisms took place....this is a beautiful song about the love we must have and follow the lord
My favorite! So influential. No Curtis, no Hendrix.
A train to Jordan as in the River Jordan. This is a Gospel song imploring you to be ready when you are called to cross the Jordan River in death.
It's a great song and Curtis was a great man. He went through a lot in his life.
Check out Aretha Franklin's version ♥️ 🔥
Speechless No the train is going to the river Jordan. Oo two are going to get it from the grandparents 😊
A Great Great song, the lead singer and song writer was Curtis Mayfield
Part of the lyrics where used by Bob Marley in One Love..
This was the anthem of the Civil Rights Movement and it's the to Jordan, it's a gospel song
People get your act together and do right because when the train comes and goes those who are not doing right will not be going to heaven 😮😢
I love Eva Cassidys version, my favourite
It's not Georgia, it's Jordan, a biblical place.
Rod Stewart does a great cover of this with Jeff Beck!
I really like the way Rid Stewat remade this song ... 🎵😎
Actually its a salvation song!
Its about the next life!
Huge influence on Bob Marley.
Asia & B J this was the anthem of the civil rights movement
The River Jordan is the gateway to Heaven.
A train to Jordan, the country in the middle east..
People get ready for the second coming of christ
Another hit by them is Choice of colors
Many a ol school song was prophetic..
Curtis mayfield 💜
Curtis Mayfield yo❤
😊A train to JORDAN!!!!!
Come on, he said the river joran😊
Man, those were the days. Yeah. Peace
