The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....

I was reminded of a coworker who became a friend who I babysat for back in 1972 when you told the story about the gentleman who received a head wound while working. My friend slipped and fell hitting her head with great force at the restaurant we worked at. She was carrying a tray of food and when she went down she didn't get a chance to break her fall. She died at home two days later. Her children found her when they came home from school. She was only 32 years old. I'm sure you've heard about "Marge" the airplane that Major Ira Bong flew might have been found recently. Your story about the pilot made me think of Major Bong. Rest in Peace to those who you remembered in New Orleans. Rest in Peace Major Bong.❤

Mr. Pfeiffer’s story also resonates with me because my eldest aunt’s husband hit his head getting out of his car on the car door frame and was in great pain for a week. This was in 2020, just before lockdown, so late February. He spent 1 week tolerating the pain before trying to see a specialist. My mom found out the night before and when she saw his sister at Mass (Ash Wednesday morning) and told her-she was immediately alarmed and rallied everyone to send him to the hospital-scans revealed a massive brain bleed and he was operated on immediately. Spent almost 2 weeks in the ICU and then the first 6 weeks of lockdown being cared for at his sister’s house 5 mins away from the hospital. He would be dead if he had waited another day, he was already losing lucidity when they took him for the scans. My aunt (his wife) has dementia so she didn’t even understand something was wrong, plus he was downplaying the level of pain he was in.

I love these personal stories of just regular people and the way you tell them just instantly brings them back to life. They deserve the recognition for how they lived and died just as much as the most famous people in the world do. The story about the man who hit his head and later died probably struck me the most because we still hear those kinds of stories today. It's a freak thing that any one of us could have happen to and nothing that has a cure except to be wise enough to get checked out if you hit your head that hard. I love these story walks as I call them. I would love to keep hearing them. Great job as always! RIP to all ❤💐

I enjoy the stories you tell at every cemetery you visit. These are stories about real people who lived, made their mark in the world, and passed away. Some stories are about famous people but most are about the man or woman who lived next door or down the street. Basically unknown to most, but usually they were known and loved by family and friends. I think every story is important! Thank you, Ron!

When I went to New Orleans back in 1990, I made sure I rode a trolley car out to Tulane. Sad, to bang your head by falling and this happened to my great grandfather. I don't know if he slipped on ice or was skating but he died as did Mr Pfeiffer. Berry Oakley of the Allman Bros Band banged his head in a motorcycle accident and said he was fine but had suffered a brain injury and died as a consequence of not going to be checked out. So many stories- from just one graveyard. Most of the people that died of Spanish Flu died of bacterial pneumonia- and they tended to be younger. Today, they could be treated quite easily but back then they just died and my mother told me she remembered her parents discussing the way it cut people down.

I think Mr. Pffeifer’s story (hitting his head and being seemingly ok only to die two days later) resonated the most with me. I had a choir master in church that passed a similar way. He had gone on a church camp (confirmation) with the youths and was playing the guitar and keyboard for them. During one of the games he fell backwards and hit his head on one of the wooden walls of the hall. He said he was ok but would sit out the rest of the games. He seemed like his usual, happy self when they finally went to bed. No complaints of a headache or pain. His younger roommate heard him snore unusually loudly in the middle of the night but didn’t check on him and went back to sleep. In the morning he was late and when they went to wake him he was already stiff and cold. It was very shocking and sad for everyone when the news spread. He was 37, married and left behind an 11 year old daughter.

Thank you Ron ,this was fascinating. I have a question for anyone who knows about these family tombs. Are the occupants all stacked in coffins one on top of another ? How deep are the holes it looks like some of the tombs are pretty loaded. I could understand the size if boxes of ash were in there, but it looks like a lot of Catholics so they didn’t use to use cremation.

    • @KRYSJYN71
      @KRYSJYN71 4 месяца назад +1

The reason for the ground being uneven on the grave site is due to the coffins being buried very deeply, soon the ground and area around it will then settle down and become more compact over time. After some years pass, the coffin, the body and wood in the ground will rot, decompose and break down, what will happen during this time the coffin will fail and implode into itself and the body inside, it will all break down because of the weight of the ground above it, rain, rats and other animals that burrow under the ground. The scent of the body will attract them so after all of those things happen over time the ground will become uneven due to those factors, when the coffin and body have decomposed and the skeleton is all that is left the ground will shift and move to close the gap that's been left after that process has happened. This is why the ground in burial sites can be and is uneven. The body and coffin decompose and leave a gap in the ground the weight of the ground shifts and moves naturally to close the gap that is left over from the whole process. Crazy huh? Most people would not have thought of asking a question like that, I think that it's awesome for someone to ask questions like that and be genuinely interested in it all

Yes, they are on top of each other. My grandparents are buried like that. She died in 2016 and he died in 2017. When they opened the grave to put him in there was a concrete seal over hers. The entire grave is lined with concrete like an underground vault. Because of the flooding that we have here, the caskets will pop up out of the ground. Thats why our cemeteries have so much concrete.

Ron.....For some reason I find this cemetary more peaceful, maybe only somewhat less to Bruton Church Graveyard in Colonial Williamsburg, va.. We lived within a block of the colonial area for 17 years and I used to take early morning walks among the fog and mist to sit on the stone benches among the 250 year old graves, stones, slabs, and markers and meditate. The history there just radiated and I felt a deep connection of those long past. Many, not all, of the modern cemetaries are depressing. I would rather visit the old graveyards of the late 1600s to late 1700's like near Salem, Ma., than most of the modern ones today. Thanks fo your channel.

Love to hear about the 'regular' people. These are the folks who are more likely to be forgotten, so it is good to memorialize them here and to share their stories with us. Helps to connect the present with the past. Thank you, Ron!

I love all these history stories Ron and would love to see more. I love hearing about the sheriffs from back then and the language is interesting and just hearing their way of life.

As a retired police officer, I greatly appreciate the stories remembering officers from the past. Thank you for ALL of your videos. You said it best yourself...It brings the past alive.

Greetings from Oklahoma Ron ❤️I enjoy all of the cemeteries you take us to. And getting to hear stories about the lives that have come and gone before us is like history to me. I usually meditate on the stories and wonder just how different it really was back in the good ole days, as I call it. The generations behind me are so, so different!!!! Thank you for what you do Ron, and is it Deborah that helps you. She is so good at what she does and so helpful to you. She does an amazing job as well.
I really liked the story of the woman that was the card's gambler. I can't think of her name right now. But I really did enjoy how much her life changed. How she ended up married and making a good name for her and her husband. Have a good week Ron.
